MPR does a story on an unusual new movie theater venture: The Trylon Microcinema, part of Take-Up Productions (not to be mistaken for the citizen journalism site; that’s the UpTake). Microcinema? It has only 50 seats. MPR quotes Barry Kryshka from Take-Up: “On one hand we wanted our own space just to have our own space,” he said. “But at the same time it’s nice to have a space where you can program things that might only draw 30 or 35 people at a time.” The Microcinema begins screenings tonight with a selection of Buster Keaton shorts.

I think this is a great idea. I unknowingly help to fund this venture when Mrs. Lungs and I saw “Lawrence of Arabia” at the Heights awhile back.
I’ll be one of their 50 customers.

Cool.

I wonder if they will show the classic 1938 midget western, “The Terror of Tiny Town?”

The only factual error in that story: Take-Up didn’t arrange the (amazing) 70mm screening of Lawrence. That was put on by Dean Rice, who rents the Heights occasionally for screenings. But I hope we were part of Dean’s inspiration. Dean is showing Fiddler on the Roof on Aug27 at the Heights.
And I hope the success of the Hitchcock series was a contributing factor to the Riverview’s upcoming Paul Newman series, which starts on Oct8 (and with Slap Shot, too!).
Everything else Euan said we did was true. Tonight’s Keaton shows just sold out, but we still have tickets for tomorrow.

justpbob- “The Terror of Tiny Town” popped up in a recent game of Beyond Balderdash (!), and that one in particular intrigued me. Have you seen this? And isn’t it a musical?

I own a copy of the Terror of Tinytown on DVD, even though it is decidedly terrible. Yes, it’s a musical.
