Yes, the organ player helped entertain a nearly full house last night before the feature. They had to delay the start of the movie by about 10 minutes so everyone could get through the door.

A couple of (now) humorous scenes in the movie got big laughs. The first came when the Earth doctors puzzled how Klaatu could like like he was in his 30s at age 72. "He says medicine on his planet is just that more advanced," one says, while the two doctors light up cigarettes -- inside Walter Reed Hospital, no less.

The audience howled in laughter.

The other scene came as one of Mr. Carpenter's (aka Klaatu) fellow lodgers complained at breakfast "Why doesn't the government do something?" When another said, "Well, the Government is just people," she snapped back "The're not people! The're Democrats!!"

More laughter.

All in all, a great experience. People applauded at the end.

As far as I know, they are also the only theater with a functional pipe organ from the silent movie era. You can enjoy live organ playing on Friday and Saturday nights!

Sorry to hear that, kurtis. As many of you know, the Heights is the only local theater that allows you to bring in your Dairy Queen treats (both owned by same guy).
