Mark Dayton just can’t win

Whatever. Nobody is going to vote for him simply because he bought the machine for her. He’s got the money, it was a nice thing to do, and the woman will remember it for the rest of her life.

As Pheobe taught us in “Friends,” no good deed is purely selfless, otherwise no one would do them. Good for Dayton, I hope he enjoys that good karma.

Other than once again proving the axiom, “no good deed goes unpunished”, what exactly was the point of writing that drivel.  for realz, yo.

I thought such suspicions were supposed to change in the era of Barack Obama.

Thanks for pointing this out. City Pages shows its cynical douchebaggery yet again.

Oh, and I’m pretty cynical about any good deed done by a politician, but I just can’t get behind the CP’s reasoning here. Why can’t people just chalk it up to plain ol’ holiday goodwill (or a tax writeoff…j/k).

It seems the CityPages gives me a new reason to not read them on a weekly basis. WTF? There are lot of publicity whores in this town and I didn’t see any of them doing it, so I doubt it was just for the publicity.

Though, I do wonder if CityPages wrote it to drive traffic, if so, they did a good job…

Emily has done some good posts on The Blotter, but this isn’t one of her finer moments.

Also, she’s a thief of other writers intelectual property. She needs to drop that bad habit, and soon, or no one (even Max the Merciful) will link to them again.

I like that the only picture they could find of Mark Dayton was from Powerline. Ha!

cue Emily’s snarky highschoolish retort…now.

I look forward to four years of Rat’s “in the era of Barack Obamna” jokes. They’ll get funnier and funnier with reputation until just the word “era” gives me fits.

I mean EIGHT years.

Dude, he did it because he’s rich and he can. And the fact of the matter is he’s famous(ish) and can leverage that if he needs to.

Glad to see he’s using his power for good, not for evil.

It’s probably only news *because* he’s already famous(ish). If some anonymous uber-rich person did it, we might not hear so much about it. Or we certainly wouldn’t be questioning their motives if we did.

I noted yesterday that Dayton apparently got ripped in the Strib comments as well (many were deleted), so CP isn’t the only ones.

At least City Pages classes it up a little bit by randomly deciding to belittle David Brauer.

What the hell is going on over there? It really has turned into some kind of backwater college newspaper.

That Emily Kaiser is a busy beaver. She must get paid per post.

From the Campbell snark: “Minnpost, a high quality retirement center for those who care about journalists.”

City Pages, a low-class retirement center for college newspaper gossip columnists.

Secrets of the City, a huge business blunder by the Bartel Cartel, run by a recent college grad who has no qualifications other than lucky sperm.

Emily’s defense in the comments is kind of lame, IMO.

P.S. I thought Matt graduated from college 3 years ago…not exactly recent.

Matt has lucky sperm?? I suppose that could qualify you for lots of things.

For starters, I have this lottery ticket here, and you could just… well, bless it, I’d be grateful.

yeah, it has been 3 years but I haven’t done anything worthwhile since then, so I’m fine with the lucky sperm thing for now.

I think he graduated about a year and a half back. That puts him above me though — I never graduated.

Lucky Sperm is, of course, a brand name of a soda pop that the Bartels invested in a few years ago. It turned out to be a hit in Japan.

Three years!

Man, time flies.

Matt has lucky sperm?? I suppose that could qualify you for lots of things.

There’s a leprechaun joke in there somewhere, I just haven’t figured it out, yet….

Damn, those comments on the strib site are just nasty to Dayton (again). Where are the snark and daggers for these guys (or Tom Barnard)as well:

Jay Bruber, president, CEO and owner of the Simek’s chain, agreed to replace software that is not included with the laptop. The Minnesota Heating and Cooling Association also was collecting money from its board members and the public to go toward a replacement.

One thing that isn’t clear to me at all: how exactly did the press find out about Dayton’s actions? Barnard made his offer over the air. The Strib makes no mention of how they found out that Dayton had called the woman. Everyone commenting at the Strib (and Emily) seems to be jumping to the conclusion that Dayton had his campaign staff issue a press release.

Isn’t possible that the woman or a friend of her’s alerted the reporter that did the original story?

Miller! OMG, I about died…except the hearts and stars are too high…

mnblrmkr, I guess it’s just easier for some people to assume the worst of others and no doubt a negative article gets more impact than a warm and fuzzy one…especially, it seems, at the CP.

What’s the beef re: Dayton?

Is it morally wrong for someone wealthy to make a charitable gift? I would think that those comment morons would appreciate the effort … as would the CP dunderheads. If any of them had the good fortune of having wealth, would they make a similar contribution?

No. Probably not.

Well, it makes sense that CP would make fun of Brauer. He’s such an embarrassment to the profession of journalism that today City Pages only linked to two stories Brauer broke.

alie,

even if he had an ulterior motive, it’s still a good thing he did.

I would guess that the vast majority of good deeds are motivated by ulterior motives. Even if it’s just the fact that doing something nice or good for someone else makes you feel good.

I have an ulterior motive even when I do bad things.

I have ulterior motives when I do nothing. I cover ALL my bases, dontchaknow.

Kudos to Dayton, and all the others that camne forward to help.
Hopefully he’ll throw in a USB flash drive as well.

I don’t even bother with the shitty pages anymore. that shit has gone so far downhill it’s not even funny.
