This is one of the sadder and stranger stories: A Wheaton, Minnesota man, angered over not recieving a washer and dryer, stormed the church that gave them away. During a church meeting. With a friend. And baseball bats. And accidentally killed a 14-month-old girl. Whose father he had been best man for.

I would probably not use the term accidentally…

I agree with baker. While the little girl did not seem to be this guy’s intended target, this was no “accident.”

In fact, a lot of folks in law enforsement have stopped using the term “traffic accident” and are using the term “crash” instead.
Why? Because the other term suggests that no one is at fault, or that it could not have been prevented (”accidents happen”), when in fact, they usually are caused by someone’s mistake behind the wheel.

enforsement? Arrest him, spelling police!

yes bob, the police chief at the PD I used to work for was quite adamant about that distinction…
A sad story, indeed.

baker, I can’t believe you admit working for the PD…

don’t worry, I wasn’t a copper…
I was a civilian analyst that helped them understand the massive amounts of data they collect and visualize it geographically…it was quite a fun and interesting gig…

Whew. You had me worried there.

Definitely not an “accident.”
During elementary school my ear got clipped by a rock during recess. “I didn’t mean to hit HER,” said the kid who threw it, “I was aiming it at him!” It didn’t work as an excuse in first grade, and it certainly doesn’t work as an excuse for adults. Especially when the results are this tragic. And fatal.

Woah, Baker’s a cop? This changes everything.

If you go into a situation intending to assault another person, but instead end up harming a bystander, you cannot claim it was an accident.
