Katherine Kersten filed her last column today. Happy happy joy joy? Who will expose the virulent pinkos lusting after our children? Who will see into the hearts of the militant, gay-loving, Jesus-hating, Communists who live in the center cities?

And yet CJ still has a job …
10:17 am
The Strib comments section for this piece could pin back your ears.
10:22 am
AMEN.
10:24 am
Read the comments, and now I AM afraid.
10:31 am
Well if she accomplished one thing in her time at the Strib it was further dividing the nation. Quite the accomplishment.
10:35 am
Does that mean we are free of Nick Coleman’s dribble as well?
10:41 am
“Well if she accomplished one thing in her time at the Strib it was further dividing the nation.”
She’s has plenty of company in that regard.
10:50 am
While it’s true that both Kersten and Coleman pull at the heartstrings of their respective political persuasions, it seems to me that Coleman can usually pull of an intelligent argument, at least.
To give credit to Kersten, she did write some pretty decent columns occasionally. Now let’s see the Strib find a George Will instead of a Jason Lewis. That’d be the day.
11:17 am
I guess she was also instrumental in showing that Minnesotans are basically just as stupid at the rest of the nation. I always thought we were slightly smarter up here but through the comments to her articles I now believe we are on the edge of an idiocracy.
11:17 am
I would love to live in her simple world for a day.
11:48 am
If only Kersten’s world was so simple. Surely her need to shine light on the sinister side of every backyard barbeque and cuddly kitten to those who could not see was a curse, not a gift.
11:51 am
“it seems to me that Coleman can usually pull of an intelligent argument, at least.”
I’ll bite. Please provide a salient quote from him that might reflect that intelligence you speak of.

If anyone out there still reads the print edition, did they not run a local section today?

MinnPost says it’s all about the budget.

Here’s KK’s MO that I will not miss at all: Take one idea that falls on the left side of the spectrum that has some problems either in idea or in practice. Claim everyone who has ever voted for someone who is NOT a God-fearing Republican IS EXACTLY LIKE THAT AND WANTS TO KILL YOUR CHILDREN AFTER TURNING THEM INTO HOMOSEXUAL SATANISTS!!!!!!
The only reason I will miss her columns…actually, I won’t miss them. At all.
3:27 pm
Coleman is a great writer. I think it is laughable how you neocons dismiss him as some hack as he clearly is not. Just because the FACTS (see your “Free Market” Economy, WMD’s in Iraq, Torture) are against you does not mean the messenger is wrong.
That would be you.
Coleman consistently REPORTS on his stories. Every writer is biased, he just has the balls to admit it -and HELLO! that is the job of a COLUMNIST whether it is Coleman or KK. The difference is Coleman can write, displays wit, and is not simply a party shill. KK is all of those things – and less! She’s like Ann Colter -without the penis.
So give it a rest. There is NO COMPARISON between Coleman and KK.
She was and is a fraud. Coleman has 30 years on the beat. Plus he’s hung like Milton Berle.
’nuff said.
3:39 pm
Wow, I think one person mentioned Coleman…way to overreact, musta been saving that one up for a while…
3:40 pm
I think most people here would agree with Nick Coleman’s opinion, once they get around the part about him being a sanctimonious blowhard. This is a left wing echo-chamber, Tommy.
“She’s like Ann Colter -without the penis.”
Proof that I think much of the most virulent hatred toward Kersten is rooted in sexism. A conservative, religious woman with a matronly air. That REALLY pisses people off.
3:41 pm
Yeah. I never found the “Anne Coulter is a man” jokes to be funny or clever.
3:53 pm

I would like to know how you found this little tidbit out, and tell me where you dug up some hot Uncle Miltie full frontal…it’s for a friend.
3:53 pm
Rat your reality must coexist with Kersten’s. Too bad it has no basis in fact.
My feelings for her have nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman, a conservative, religious, or has a “matronly air” (whatever that means.) It is fully because her writing indicates that she is making up crazy controversial things just to sell newspapers. Further, she doesn’t even do that very well.
3:55 pm
Miltie’s no Max Sparber.
4:02 pm
I got some reality over here, Douglas (sorry got caught up in all that talk).
Go reader the reader comments to her last column,
And reread sputtering inanities like this:
“I guess she was also instrumental in showing that Minnesotans are basically just as stupid at the rest of the nation. I always thought we were slightly smarter up here but through the comments to her articles I now believe we are on the edge of an idiocracy.”
6:50 pm
I’m fairly sure that if we were to kidnap Rat and drop him off on planet Zorg, he’d quickly become convinced that both the Zorgorcrats and the Zorgublicans were extremists and he was taking a position in the sensible middle, even if there was indisputable evidence that Zorgublicans ate Zorg babies. By which I mean his positions are completely relative and are only based on the arbitrary “center” which is set primarily by the stupidity and ignorance of the American people. There’s no basis in any kind of facts or logic. I actually kinda miss Maz as the most contrary commenter – at least he had some convictions and even occasionally reasoning.
7:26 pm
maz? Reasoning?
The thing about maz was he didn’t pretend to be something that he pretty clearly despised.
7:33 pm
KK should become a war reporter for Pajamas Media.
8:03 pm
If Ann Coulter is a man, then I’m gay.
8:06 pm
I’m not going to make any jokes about her being a man, but I will certainly mock you for insinuating she’s attractive.
8:10 pm
More attractive than Rachel Maddow.
8:14 pm
This, however, is perhaps the funniest thing I’ve ever read. From her wikipedia: Maddow lives in Manhattan and rural Western Massachusetts, with her partner, artist Susan Mikula.[22][23] The couple met in 1999, when Mikula hired Maddow, who was then working on her doctoral dissertation, for yard work at her home.
8:50 pm
Wrong. Coulter looks like she smells like the floor of the peep show booths at Sex World.
Course some of you are likely into that.
Maddow isn’t supposed to be attractive…to you. Just more successful.
8:57 pm
I think most people here would agree with Nick Coleman’s opinion, once they get around the part about him being a sanctimonious blowhard.
Pot. Meet Kettle. Kettle, Pot.
And Max is right. Comparing Coulter to a man is an insult to Tranny’s and Men everywhere. I bet she has no sexual organs. Just Barbie parts. Sealed up for life.
Thank God!
8:57 pm
Forced to choose, I’d take Maddow, if for no other reason than she’s mostly coherent and seems to have some respect for reality.
9:10 pm
I had to Google Rachel Maddow, which consumed the energy to produce half a cup of tea, but Ann Coulter is much better looking.
9:28 pm
“Pot. Meet Kettle. Kettle, Pot.”
“at least he had some convictions”
One person says The Rat has no convictions, another says he’s a sanctimonious blowhard.
Gotta be doing something right.
9:35 pm
I had to Google Rachel Maddow, which consumed the energy to produce half a cup of tea, but Ann Coulter is much better looking.
God has spoken.
9:38 pm
No, just a guy.
9:43 pm
I don’t know that the two are mutually exclusive, at least not for one as talented as yourself.
8:49 am
What does it matter if you find Coulter attractive or not? If you don’t like what she has to say (and I certainly don’t), maybe your criticisms would be met more seriously if you didn’t throw in jabs about her private parts. Whether you think she’s ugly or not, it still doesn’t change the fact that you (and I) don’t agree with her politics. Just a thought.
8:53 am
I understand that focusing on her (lack of) attractiveness rather than her (loathsome) ideas is at least mildly sexist, but the reason it happens is that the fact that there are people dumb enough to think she’s providing intelligent commentary AND is hot is simply so amusing I can’t help but make fun of it. I think we’re talking about someone who sees herself as the sexy face of conservative politics, and conservatives fall for it, so I’d say commentary is invited.
