Some of you may have seen some news coverage of B.J. Beusekom, the Loretto, Minn. man who decided to celebrate his 30th birthday by running for 24 hours on a treadmill. He fell a little short of his 93 mile goal, but he did last the 24-hour period (with brief stops to use the bathroom) at noon today. I just got back from the weird gym in Brooklyn Center were he trains, where he put KARE-11’s Erik Perkins through the paces of a “caveman workout.”
Oh, did I mention he used to be the masked westler “Drej?”
Full disclosure: He was doing this as a benefit for the American Lung Association of Minnesota, where I work.

Did he raise a lot of money? Because 80 miles in 24 hours isn’t that impressive in the world of ultramarathoning.

About $3,000, according to the news reports I have seen, miller. Interestingly, the story has gone national, on CBS, MSNBC, Fox and on the national AP “news of the weird” wire.
That $3K will be added to the money raised at last weekend’s stair climb fundraiser (I finished in just over 10 minutes, BTW). Stopped off at Hell’s Kitchen afterwards.
