I agree. The Yankees are boringly predictable.
This is why the Twins are the Twins and the Yankees are the Yankees. Let's see, should we go for Hardy or Teixera? Hmmm.

This story is a little sad and a little scary at the same time.
He posed no threat to the President, but clearly, the dude has “issues.” I don’t see a very bright future for this guy.
Mr. Hendrickson, which do you love more? Your children (as you profess), or your guns (as you demonstrated on Saturday)?
9:27 am
It’s prolly not cool to put his mugshot up here eh?
He’s got sweet hair, if the guy I found really is him.
9:27 am
whiskey tango frank? this guy was clearly the inspiration for Seth Rogen’s dangerously stupid character in “Observe and Report”.
Check this nugget in case you dont wanna RTFA:
“Hendrickson…believed he was following his training when he maced a Cub Foods customer…said the woman had parked illegaly and was belligerent when he asked her to move, reaching in her car for an unknown object”

huh?
9:31 am
JPB how can he protect one without the other.
Oh an nevermind my earlier post, I don’t think he could get a conceal carry if he was the guy in the mugshot.
9:49 am
Just a rhetorical question, cubbie.
While I have friends and family members who have handguns and kids under the same roof, the mix of the two always make me uneasy.
In high school, a friend of mine shot another (accidently) while showing off his dad’s handgun. The kid died, and left my friend’s life afterwards in ruins.
As a teen, while my parents were in a very bad phase of their marraige (they divorced when I was in my early 20s), I took my dad’s gun out of the house and kept it in the glove box of my car for awhile (a very stupid thing to do), because I was afraid of what might happen. Thankfully, things calmed down and I returned the gun.
So yes, it’s kinda personal to me. I am not afraid of guns, or against the 2nd Amendment. I just worry when kids are involved.
9:53 am
Who *isn’t* acting belligerantly when they’re at Cubs? Their parking lots are full of all sorts of people who can’t drive.
9:55 am
JPB how can he protect one without the other.
Under what circumstances might that become necessary, and how is it likely to occur?
One could also ask: “How are you protecting your kids from the threat posed by these wapons in your home?”
He may be a responsible gun owner who always locks up guns and ammo, takes extraordinary steps to insure kids’ safety. Then again, he may not…I don’t know.
9:55 am
That’s why I shop Byerly’s. Just have to dodge the late-model import SUVs while driving to have your car loaded by the nice folks who work the conveyer belt.
9:55 am
Never been to a Wal-Mart, but I can only imagine what goes on in those parking lots.

If he walks around DT MPLS with a gun stuck in his back pocket, I’m guessing he tends toward the less-responsible.
9:58 am
I rarely go there, but I did some shopping for work at the Midway Wal-Mart yesterday. A new experience for me.
I wish we had a high-end grocery store in the northern burbs. le sigh…
10:00 am
That’s my thought, too, g rote. I have some pretty serious gun owners in the family (many weapons, long and short), but none would pull a stunt like this, or pack heat without due cause.
10:01 am
I often shop at the same Byerly’s that I believe you do, g_rote. It’s basically overflow parking from the Cub Foods up 100. Everyone in that lot’s a hot mess.
And Wal-Mart…It’s like Anoka’s South Central…
That’s why, when I get rich and classy, I’m order everything from Amazon and Coburn’s.
Also, last night I determined that Anoka is *my* North Minneapolis. So scared to go there after dark. I can’t imagine what their parking lots are like. I have been to their Culver’s and SA though…
10:06 am
It’s little wonder Bixby is scared of Anoka after dark. It’s the Halloween Capitol of The World!
You can always come to the peaceful refuge of Stately Moffitt Manor, bix. You can’t miss us. We are the only house on the block that doesn’t have a “lawn jockey” sculpture out front.
As Minnesota Nice progrssives, we keep ours in the back yard!
(I’m joking, of course. And yes, you can use that one at the Comedy Club.)
10:34 am
i believe the vast majority of conceal/carry permit owners take gun safety quite seriously.
i don’t own guns and don’t plan too. my goofy parents, however, both carry their guns everywhere. (they live in florida.) i was a bit thrown when i asked dad where his gun was on a recent visit – he opened his fanny pack and there it was. the thing has 3 safeties on it, but it still made me nervous.
10:42 am
I hope you are right, cubbie.
Had a similar experience when riding along with a well-known public fugure in Saint Paul, they pulled a snub-nose revolver from a conceled holster and asked me to “put this in the glove box.”
10:50 am
@justpbob
While your friends story is tragic I have to say: So? While growing up a friend died in a car accident. My fathers brother died in a combine accident. We don’t ban either. I grew up around guns. I own one myself. Some of my friends get freaked out about it because they’ve been taught guns=bad. We have worse things to worry and cause more damage in our day to day lives than guns. Most gun owners take ownership seriously. But like any group – you have your nutcases.
10:57 am
“but none would pull a stunt like this, or pack heat without due cause.”
That’s the whole point of what this guy did—you don’t need due cause.
I own a weapon too. The responsible weapons powners are not a threat.
11:01 am
Who said ban? Not me.
We have worse things to worry and cause more damage in our day to day lives than guns.
For most people, that’s true. But you gotta admit, a lot of people get killed with guns in this country. An exerpt:
“Since Sept. 11, 2001, when the country’s attention understandably turned to terrorism, nearly 120,000 Americans have been killed in nonterror homicides, most of them committed with guns. Think about it — 120,000 dead. That’s nearly 25 times the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
11:06 am
I was clear in saying this guy was no threat to the President, baker, and I was also clear that I have no interest in picking on gun owners.
But again, what was he trying to say, and to whom, on that particular Saturday? He had no sign. He shouted no slogan. He was there to ‘protest,’ but protest what, exactly?
11:10 am
Why shouldn’t we be able to restrict where or when you can carry? We have time/place/manner restrictions on speech.
Protesters at the political conventions are routinely prohibited from holding protests outside the convention halls, and are instead penned off in “free speech zones” blocks, if not miles away from the hall.
I can’t show up on the sidewalk at your house at 2 AM and to rally or picket.
People can’t look at their porn in public either.
11:10 am
He may be a responsible gun owner who always locks up guns and ammo, takes extraordinary steps to insure kids’ safety. Then again, he may not …
Doesn’t keeping a gun locked away at home defeat the whole purpose for having a gun for home defense in the first place? If it’s locked away, in order to protect children, it probably wouldn’t do the owner much good should a burglar — or TURRIST!!!1! — break in.
11:21 am
The day a MN homeowner pulls a loaded handgun from under her pillow and kills Osama bin Laden breaking into her house to harm her children, I’ll shut up, noodle. (g)
11:47 am
Yeah, that’s the thing I don’t understand, justpbob: If someone is breaking into a house, they won’t wait around while you unlock the gun from wherever it is it’s hidden and fish around for the ammo you also have locked away.
So, what’s the logic to begin with behind keeping a weapon around the house?
I think handguns and rifles are another way some guys compensate for some other insecurity issues.
12:06 pm
Clever, noodleman.
I sleep upstairs. If I heard someone coming into the house at night, I would grab my shotgun, ammo, and have it loaded and ready to use in under 1 minute. I would then call police, and wait at the top of the stairs for their arrival. If the criminal tried to come upstairs, he would get 1 warning, if possible. What would you do if an armed criminal came into your bedroom?
12:15 pm
People can’t look at their porn in public either.
try telling that to the gay bodybuilder who was next to me on the plane back from vegas.
12:21 pm
What would you do if an armed criminal came into your bedroom?
Shoot the hostage.
12:21 pm
@baker what about “a smooth criminal”?
12:52 pm
You missed a great career as a SWAT officer, Max.
1:00 pm
If I heard someone coming into the house at night, I would grab my shotgun, ammo, and have it loaded and ready to use in under 1 minute.
Do you have children living with you? How can you make absolutely sure they could never find or retrieve a weapon that’s “hidden?” I put “hidden” in quotes because we all know how clever kids are at finding things they aren’t supposed to find … like Christmas presents.
If the hiding place is so good that a kid can’t find a gun, how readily accessible is it then if the weapon is needed in an emergency?
Why do we assume a break-in could only occur at night, while we’re in a second-floor bedroom with the weapon stash nearby?
I’m not necessarily anti-gun, btw. I just think these are legitimate questions to ask anyone who claims they can keep both their house AND their kids safe when there’s a gun and ammo on the premises.
2:20 pm
Guns are EVERYWHERE. You would be surprised how many people around you are carrying.
It’s not really anything to be scared about. I know people that don’t have experience with firearms find them scary and the idea of anyone around you carrying may freak them out. Nobody can tell you not to be scared, however, your fears do not justify taking away the rights of others. Statistically, legal gun owners do not commit gun crimes all that often. What you should be scared about is illegal gun owners… I.E. criminals. They tend not to follow bans or rules in general.
There are multiple ways for gun owners to keep their firearms out of the hands of their children while still being able to defend their households. I agree though that far too many don’t take stringent enough measures to keep their guns out of the hands of their children. This is something that we need to take very seriously.
Surprise surprise, I voted for Obama. And I’m really glad he’s not pulling out the gun issue as we have far, far larger problems to deal with in our country right now.
4:18 pm
That’s the thing: Obama isn’t going to take away all our guns the way this wingnut thinks. That’s his real crime: Being ill-informed.
5:06 pm
no kids at home noodle….
I think C pretty much nailed it.
5:19 pm
@baker: I’m sure I could keep a gun (or two) secured but handy, too, if there weren’t kids around. But IF there were kids living at home …
6:36 pm
People can’t look at their porn in public either.
What about people looking at other people’s porn? I shouldn’t be punished if nood’s porn is just lying around in public, which it usually is.
7:04 pm
Teach kids that all guns are loaded. By hiding them or locking them up you increase the desire to get at them. Let the kids under supervision and training handle them. Their is no perfect solution. I can see an issue with other kids coming over. In Mpls the gun was loaded under the bed and another was in the closet both loaded. When kids came over I told them and their PARENTS that all the guns in the house are loaded and to leave them alone. If they wanted to see them just ask. The cat was a bigger danger.
7:06 pm
We were not a gun family growing up, but we were all taught that guns were to be respected and not messed with. I know where my dad keeps the shotguns (for rogue animals and stuff) but to this day I’ve never touched them.
7:06 pm
as far as Mr. nut bag and others like him goes, he is a bigger threat to my gun rights than any far left liberal. he does more to sway opinion against guns than anything else.
7:07 pm
@kwatt I think that is more normal than most would have you think. Not every kid wants to play with them. It is like the chain saw it is there but most kids don’t have an interest.
7:37 pm
@kwatt: Does it show? I thought the trench coat kept my stash hidden from
pubicpublic view most of the time.7:38 pm
(Darn. The strike-through command didn’t work. Spoiled the humor.)
12:20 am
Um, anyone who brings a gun to an obama rally protest in protest of, among other things, Obama taking a way his or her gun scares me.
Why?
Because, I question how well gun training got through to them since they obviously can’t get it through their heads that Obama isn’t and has no interest in taking away their guns. So, right there I know I’m not dealing with the best judgment AND I know they have a gun.
And they’re probably racist, also.
But mainly the first part.
12:30 am
Noodleman, I don’t understand having a gun for protection but locking it up from your kids. It seems like that’s not going to help you when a robber comes in.
My suggestion: lock up your kids and leave the gun unlocked on the bedside gun rack.
Because, honestly, what good is your kid running around going to do when a robber comes? It’ll probably make them more mad, endangering you AND your kid. Plus, that bedside gun rack looks so awesome. I’ve heard other people say that. I’ve never heard anyone saying “man, your kid running around, getting into stuff they shouldn’t, looks so awesome!”
8:43 am
Bixby makes a point about this incident. It looks like Mr. Hendrickson might be just a little crazy, but not major pyscho crazy.
He was never close enough to the President to be a real threat to him, but if he was a real nut job, and listening to the voices in his head say “punish them all,” he was in, as we used to say in the military, a “target rich environment.”
But as a commenter on MinnPost noted, this guy’s 15 minutes are up, time to discuss other news.
3:47 pm
We shouldn’t worry about Obama’s safety. Turns out, the dude is a Jedi.
4:58 pm
Just talked to the most politically knowledgeable cab driver I ever met on a trip out to DFW, where I am now.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and just became a U.S. citizen. Knew Minnesota politics like he grew up there.
He said he was always fascinated that people in public life could hold divergently different political views and still be civil and friendly with each other. He said it would never happen in Nigeria.
But he doesn’t like the tone or the fighting that’s going on now. He blames talk radio. He went to Town Hall meetings in the Dallas area last month. Thought they were distressingly sad.
5:33 pm
bob, the Jedi didn’t do a very good job saving themselves.
6:28 pm
Speaking of the Jedi, these photos are hilars.
6:30 pm
And Bob already posted it. RTFT, moron.
