If any of you, er… “progrssives” are coming to the Netroots Minnesota event today in Saint Paul, stop by and see me. I’ll be part of the panel on moving Minnesota toward a clean energy economy.

I’m not going to be there, mainly because I haven’t gotten over the Friar Oil mix up.

Friday Friday Friday!!! Nice weather! (Is it really November?) The only cloud on the horizon is that the Vikes are stuck with Childress for another couple of years…

Really nice touch at the end of this vid, Melinda. LOL, as someone else might say. Speaking of light and amusing, we’re planning (that might be overstating it) a MNSpeak happy hour for Tuesday, Dec. 1. What’s the venue of choice?

Kristin, How about one of the Old School joints in NE Mpls, like Mayslack’s, the NE Yacht Club or Staiu’s? The newer Bulldog NE is also popular with many folks here.

I have class at 6:00 at the U that day, so the Bulldog would work for a quick hello from me.

CJ and I found out last night that a guy he went to college with and we were both Facebook friends with was convicted of videotaping his step daughter getting out of the shower. Super yucky.

And I’d vote for somewhere in St. Paul. There is that super sweet, old school, Chinese bar at 5th and Cedar. That place rules.

Many of the MNSpeaker are afraid to go to Saint Paul, kc. More the pity, because there are some great joints here.

JPB I resemble that comment!

I am not afraid…I drive rather speedily through St. Paul quite frequently on the way to my cabin.

Speaking of messed up people/places/things and sex. Why is this article so long and well researched:

I thought the same thing. The picture of people crossing the street is especially nice.

Since we’re on the open thread…I’m thinking of going to Buenos Aires for a winter vacation. Anyone been there? Have any suggestions?

Tom, you could visit the Villa Soldati region, shouting, “Yo, rich American tourist here!” but i wouldn’t recommend it.

Actually, I have never been that far south.

@Kwatt:

worse actress: Colleen’s mom or Chance’s mom?

I have not been to Buenos Aires. I do know it is the long-term vacation spot for war criminals, so you could try to spot some.

I love Senor Wong’s and Ngon in St. Paul. Other places too. How about that Leaning Tower on University, near St. Paul? Again, suggesting only places that work for me and my 6:00 deal at the U.

Jane, stop being so selfish. How about somewhere in North Minneapolis, so I don’t have to get out of bed all day until the last possible moment?

I was going to suggest a fun thing to do in Argentina is people watch, and try to guess which old folks are escaped Nazis. Bix and I think alike.

How about we all just meet in my classroom? We’ll be watching film clips, so you all could get rowdy and make smart remarks.

@bix

Both are characters of yesteryear. I don’t know why they were written out of the show, but it’s not hard to notice that neither actress is, how to say, drop dead gorgeous. I’ve always liked Nina, though, so I would give the nod to Tracy. But really, the worst actor is Philip Chancellor. That guy and his terrible accent can go back to the outback. It’s like if Tony Soprano and the guy from Queer Eye had a kid, he would sound like that. Deacon Sharp isn’t the greatest actor either, he’s soap opera cheesy.

I think the youngest escaped Nazi would have to be what 85 or something by now. I would think you would have a better time looking for Hitler clones.

Nice try, Jane. You just want someone to show up and take notes for you.

@kwatt

Phillip is pretty terrible and Deacon too. I want to punch Deacon every time I see him.

Is Mary Jane the Sheila of 2009?

The parallel with the plastic surgery is hard to miss.

@ Bartel: Good trout fishing in Tierra del Fuego.

@kwatt Also the batshit insanity. Good acting though.

Can I second Jane’s classroom idea. That would be very convenient for me as well…

Special MNSpeak drink of choice? Jameson in honor of Max?
Or should we move onto Mojitos now?

I’m all for NE.

The Onion, wow.

I’m in. that’s the night of the MSU-UNC basketball game and I’m already committed to watching the game @ bar TBD with some Carolina fans, so I might as well get myself good and liquored up. Can I propose the zombie bar FKA Stand Up Franks? Seems like as appropriate a location as any. Equidistant from DT, North and Nordeast MPLS.

I guess my classroom suggestion wasn’t going to pan out, huh.
Are you talking about Donny Dirks Zombie Den‎?
2027 N 2nd St, Minneapolis, MN‎ – (612) 588-9700‎
Google Street view shows a vacant lot, but sure, I’ll meet internet strangers there after dark.

yes. Donnie Dirks. I would be fine with Green Mill Uptown, too. good for sports viewing, central enough, good bartender.

Yes, I like this Green Mill suggestion too. All the comedy kids go there after they are done doing whatever it is they do.

I used to live across from the Green Mill in the apartment with the big white porch. Good times.

Jane – I’m pretty sure you know most of the people in this thread for reals. I, surprisingly, have not met Kwatt and am not convinced he’s not my friend Tim, who I normally talk Y&R with, playing one of his pranks on me.

But still, I would not meet Jane anywhere after dark. She be creepy.

I’m with you there Bix! After all, isn’t she really a 64 year old man named Hector or some such…

Ahem. I am a drunken skeezy guy in a filthy tank top. Get it right.

Kwatt, I used to live across from the Green Mill. Did you live in that building on the triangle??

No, the one next to the psychics.

Sorry Hector.

We should take jane up on her invitation. I know I’d love to watch Chinese movies. Xie xie!

@Rat, I’d like to see TB trout fishing in Tierra del Fuego!

How about a scavenger hunt to meet Mark Sanford’s girlfriend?

I really don’t understand how people can do this to innocent children.

Or guilty ones.

I say a holiday celebration ANYWHERE..BTW Kris– Sara Palin is coming to the MOA next month and I have to cover it just for kicks…\I can see Bloomington from my back yard:)\! Happy Holidays everyone!

I think you won’t even be able to sleep the night before you meet The Divine Mrs. P.

Oh I will sleep alright…No political statement on my part just trying to be “Rogue”:)!

@Melinda: Be sure to ask Palin if she knows the dictionary definition of “rogue.” lol

The main definition in my Widget dictionary says:

“A person whose behavior one disapproves of but who is nonetheless likable or attractive.

“Cenzo, you old rogue!

I hope (Rat) you mean that as a compliment:)

@Rat: Neither of my dictionary sources define “rogue” in that sense as a primary definition:

Merriam-Webster

1 : vagrant, tramp
2 : a dishonest or worthless person : scoundrel
3 : a mischievous person : scamp
4 : a horse inclined to shirk or misbehave
5 : an individual exhibiting a chance and usually inferior biological variation

Dictionary.com

1. a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel.
2. a playfully mischievous person; scamp: The youngest boys are little rogues.
3. a tramp or vagabond.
4. a rogue elephant or other animal of similar disposition.
5. Biology. a usually inferior organism, esp. a plant, varying markedly from the normal.

yeah, I’ve never heard of rogue as having a “nonetheless likable/attractive” characteristic.

I never underswtood why Palin would want to associate herself with the likes of North Korea, Iran, or Saddam’s Iraq.

Yeah, that’s what she’s doing.

I thought she was Going Rouge! This changes everything.
