Première!

I feel like this open thread was an hommage to moi.

Definitivement was. Now, please come up with something to entertain us and keep us commenting and taking weird tangents and stuff.

Here a video of my cat right crossing my dog…I think it would make a fantastic gif.

Also it is good to see the citypages writers doing such thorough investigative work. Re: Jared Allen has a horseshoe aka “the trucker” not a fu manchu.

Is this on? Hello? Anyone there? I’m at EduCause so, I’ll be in and out. The weather is too nice for this!

Should be a good weather weekend. Thankfully, I’ll be avoiding all that with a conference all day Saturday for work!

Anybody live in Brooklyn Center?

I will likely get my leaves raked this weekend. Damn!

Douglas why the Damn!? Getting your leaves raked is much better than having to rake your own leaves?

Funny Ryan. Very funny.

I raked last weekend took about 6 hours. This weekend I get to clean the gutters and do another finishing touch on the yard…maybe throw down some winterizing fertilizer.

nice little weekend…wake up, start off at good day cafe, swing over to home depot….maybe stop at bed bath and beyond…if there’s time?

I have got to get to the gutters too. Why did I buy a house?

Oh great. Thanks a lot guys, for reminding me about cleaning gutters. Here I was all done with leaf-blowing and bagging and feeling complete with nature. I could ignore the gutters for a couple years, as I’ve done in the past, but then the friend who eventually cleaned them gave me so much s*** about it.

Also, at what point does one remove window air conditioners? Is it too soon for that???

Did we ever talk about yardwork and gutters when Max was here???

One nice thing about my Townhouse, the only thing I HAVE to worry about is watering. Mowing, raking, etc. is taken care of by assoc.

I did decide to do a little bit of landscaping of my own, by replacing some shrubbery, and will probably do some more next spring. (As a bonus, my work spurred several neighbors to make their own landscaping improvements).

@jane if you don’t have any trees on your lot or nearby you can ignore cleaning gutters forever. Mine I have two pine trees, two maples and a mangy arborvitae that litter the sh*t out of my gutters. I have to clean them 2-3 times a year.

Now would also be a good time to pull the window AC.

Oh I also forgot to mention at some point I’ll be at Kovals, appliancesmart and sears shopping for a new dishwasher…mine dun broke.

Yeah I think next year it’s time for a lawn service to do my fall cleanup

One nice thing about my house, the only thing I HAVE to worry about when singing/screaming “I love rock and roll” at 2 am drinking my way through a third bottle of chardonnay and wearing cowboy boots while shaking the maracas, is how bad my head is going to hurt in the morning.

That’s what the cheap stuff will do to you.

Really? You have an open thread in which to discuss anything at all and you choose lawn and gutter maintenance? Hmmm…

Yep

Dang.

FTR I tried to steer us into the semantics of facial hair labeling but that was a non starter.

ryan, I can plug music directly into my brain, so to speak, so that’s not really a problem.

“Listening” to music is fine and dandy but your missing out on half of the equation. Its like a PB&J without the J.

Next thing you’ll tell me you don’t sing in the shower?

nevermind…I don’t want to know what you do and don’t do in the shower…tahts your business.

Haha that dog got pwn3d.

I love that clip…the sound of him thudding is my favorite part.

There is Dave bragging about his brain implant again! Can you get onto the net with it yet? ;-)

I do love playing movies really loud!

I love fall yard clean-up, the crew does a great job.

Wow, worse than yardwork may be a thread about appliances, but let me say I have a dishwasher I haven’t used in 3 years. It works, but I don’t like it b/c you have to roll it out and attach the hose to the sink, and it sits in the middle of the kitchen. If this is something you could use, you could have it for VERY cheap.

Playing loud music at any hour and walking around in clickety shoes are among my favorite parts of not living in an apartment.

Wait a minute, is Christina allowed to mock us? Friday threads were a lot less pathetic when… you know the rest.

Cristina, sorry.

No jane thanks for the offer but I am looking for a dishwasher that makes washing dishes…how you say…um…easier.

There of course are ummm “other” things that you can do loudly as well when not sharing walls.

Of course for the right individual….sharing walls/having and audience might just add to the “excitement”.

I got a good deal at Warners Stellian on my kitchen appliances… They took the old ones away and everything.

Oh and “Boom chicka-wow wow!” all night long! (But close the shades….)

Alright I’ve got a question:

Which Rockstar has the most songs about having their heart broken? Lou Gramm from Foreigner, Steve Perry from Journey or Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon?

All that music breaks my heart because it sucks.

Also I think I have asked this question before but are Journey and Vanhalen responsible for bring L33tspeak to the masses?

Oh rat ya got to be such a killjoy doncha?

Don’t stop believing is the most downloaded song on itunes, EVAR.

okay that fact came from wikipedia and prolly has been eclipsed my MJ’s recent demise and subsequent chart topping.

Wanna see a line about a broken heart?

“One day, you’ll be in the ditch/Flies buzzin’ around your eyes/Blood on your saddle”

I heard that the owner of a lonely heart is much better than the owner of a broken heart. I think it is just a rumor.

“You’ll never know the hurt I suffered/Lord, the pain I rise above/And I’ll never know the same about you/Your holiness or our kind of love/And it makes me feel so sorry.”

Well I’ve heard

“One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one”
*(btw this is possibly the worst writing in the history of music)

but thats neither here nor there.

Owner of a lonely heart?

Yes.

Three Dog Night is in the house! But dreadful lyrics. and yes.

I’ll take all those songs and raise you the entire “lost boys” soundtrack…specifically “I still believe” by Tim Capello

Don’t Stop Believing, as played on the harp [via URLesque].

Par-tay!

I want you. I need you. There ain’t no way I’m ever going to love you.

Hey, two out of three ain’t bad. Right? Right???? Yeah, right.

Nood’s YouTube video with the Harpo made me thing of this.

It made me think of banjos which took me to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gzTn6f5a0s&feature=related

Muppets + Banjo + Steve Martin = Awesome

Listening to the banjo/bluegrass generally brings me back to this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SunrKwykK_Y

(the gourds singing Snoops gin and juice)

and drunken memories of singing along to this song with these guys in a bar called the Cats Paw in Bozeman Mt.

and of course don’t discount Bert Carriero’s rousing rendition of “Brandy” from the 2007 12 day European Carnival Cruise trip…that was a magical night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iEEqXhnnkY

My life, my love, my lady is the sea. It is! It is! It is is is!

Brandy, your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea.

God that Bert has some sweet pipes huh?

Is anyone else drinking beer at the office?

Good idea jane.

@jane: Not only is alcohol not allowed on the premises, we can’t even sip some suds with lunch.

Bummer for you, Churchy McTeetotaller.

dangit my co-worker doesn’t have a growler of Surly Furious in the fridge as I had hoped.

Now I am left licking my lips and dreaming of beery goodness.

No beer, but I have some meds… Mmmmm yummy steroids!

Now be honest jane…did you come up with that moniker or did you take it from your list?

i had lunch with a certain local tv celeb who decided that today would be a good day for sake. I myself couldn’t partake, but I do have 2 bottles of DARKNESS waiting at home.

Bummer for you, Churchy McTeetotaller.

I make up for it elsewhere from time to time. I had me a whole litre of Stella at Roma Restaurant in Willernie a week or so ago, along with one of their delicious ‘zas. That keeps the craving at bay.

Any day is a good day for sake.

I made up the name Churchy McTeetotaller, obvs, but a fun recent addition to the list is Jerry Johncock.

http://www.startribune.com/local/stpaul/63760332.html?elr=KArksCCCWiaEyayP4O:DW3ckUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiacyKUnciatkEP7DhUr

oh obvs.

How about the viking head butter Johnny Jolly

Oh yeah, he was discussed but for whatever reason did not make the cut. His team photo is really grim and serious though, which does make his name funnier.

“Johnny Johncock is relieved” Boy I’ll say!

How about the Chinese optimist named Kum Wat May?

Oh, Jane, darlin’, don’t consider it mockery; consider it a simple nudge toward something better. But, if you must call it mockery, then rest assured, at least, that I shall never mock you half as much as I mock myself. Onward.

(I am, but the way, far more amused by the turns this thread has taken since the gutters and leaves.)

Oh, and no “h” — mhm.

I am, but the way, far more amused by the turns this thread has taken since the gutters and leaves.

It’s your hazing, Christina. Or maybe it’s closer to managing a classroom full of second-graders.

What’s with the “h”? Just think, “not Christ.” And “not hazing.” Only love is real. ;-)

Only love is real? Carole King, 1971.

If I can c(h)ime in…I left the ‘H’ behind years ago and indeed there is no better way. The church of Crist…
Bless you all.
