FIRST! and it’s only 10am

Will some one PLEASE get me kelly clarkson tickets?? Please?

Wow, you just dropped, like, 31 notches on the cool meter.

You like Kelly Clarkson and you are moving to Excelsior on purpose? Who are you?

Tonight Pert’ Near Sandstone at the Fair at Heritage Square. I’m excited for that.

Max, please unverify her account. She’s not one of us.

Shopgirl don’t let them get you down. Sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe in.

Just get it out:

I listen to KDWB and don’t mind Kelly Clarkson

I drive a SUV

I love starbucks, it is the best of the three majors (dunn, caribou.)

I like drinking G&Ts in at maynards- not too often

I don’t ride a bike and I think people that ride fixies are lame

I like the minneapolis farmers market.

I am pro nuclear energy.

I think punch pizza is good but overpriced.

LynLake is uptown

These are just a few of the streams that I paddle up around here.

The big thing to avoid in Excelsior is not Maynards. It’s Adeles!

Such haters. No I am not moving to Excelsior on purpose, it just happened to work out that way. And Kelly Clarkson has a great voice! Ryanl did you hear the one that got away this morning on kdwb? F-ing hilarious.

(For the record, Adeles is a Frozen Custard place, and it is spectacular…)

I am not a hater!

I wasn’t talking to you Doug.. :)

I, too, listen to KDWB.

How do you not move somewhere on purpose? Are you a live-in nanny or something?

I have a secret crush on Kelly Clarkson. Lisa Loeb follows me on Twitter.

And I wear Old Spice.

It’s almost like a second childhood. Truly!

No.. It is work related though, I needed something closer.. My drive is just too long right now. I am a fan of KDWB’s morning show.. makes my drive to work bearable.

you should be walking, riding your bike or taking the bus.

My problem with the KDWB morning show – and all FM morning shows, but KDWB is the worst – is that it rarely plays MUSIC. MU-SIC. You know, songs. Play them.

Yeah 93X is my morning crew, but I flip over for some bubblegum pop/rap during the day.

If you want music in the morning, play your ipod or something.. cuz you’re not going to find it on the radio.

I’m with Kevin on the whole morning shows. If I wanted to hear someone talk, I would be listening to talk radio. I want to hear music on my music station.

If you want music in the morning, play your ipod or something.. cuz you’re not going to find it on the radio.

…which is precisely what I do.

Bingo! Same reason I turn off KFAN when they talk about something other than sports. If I want non-sports, I’ll listen to KSTP or KTLK. You’re KFAN, that’s your market advantage – sports. Why give it up?

I keep waiting for one of the radio stations in this market (especially the aimless ones between 103.9 and 106.1) to switch back to an 80s format. It can be all period pop, rock, and new wave.

How’s Love 105 working out?

@baker: as of right now I live to far away to ride my bike or bus it, but when I move I’m going to try. “try” being the key word.. I doubt I will be able to figure out the system, I get lost every time I try take the bus!

108 tried to add more 80’s to the mix. It was actually bearable for a short while. They got too many complaints (from the Baby Boomers no doubt!) and switched back.

Ooh, a public purging of our our secret uncool/freaky things? Excellent.

Hmm… let’s see… hmm… nope, they are either already out in the open, or so deeply vaulted they are staying there forever.

@Jane: Yes we know about your Perry Como thing… Or was it Jim Nabors?

I do listen to French rap sometimes. Seriously.

If you want music in the morning, play your ipod or something.. cuz you’re not going to find it on the radio.

Except on The Current or MPR’s classical station. They play music in the morning. The classical station did some dances this morning that were great.  Also, KFAI I think has music as well as Radio K and the Jazz station.

If you can’t find music in the morning, it is because you aren’t looking or you only like shit music.

When you guys got together for the first time, for a MNSpeak or Read, did any of you find out that you actually knew some one from work or something? That could be awkward..

@jane: Serge Gainsbourg?

@kc! No I just don’t look for music in the morning. I like a good talk show to perk me up.

I like Japanese Punk — The Blue Hearts!

I listened to KBEM for years. (Yes music in the morning) However, their morning guy LOVES female ballad singers. That is the worse thing in the world to listen to when you’re trying to wake up…

Kurtis and I work for the same department at the U. We knew each other on MNSpeak before we knew each other at work. (We did meet at a work function however not a MNSpeak event)

Ranty and I worked together without knowing it. She also helped me get off at the correct bus stop on my first day, not knowing we worked at the same place. If not for her help, I’d still be riding the 50S looking for Wiley Hall.

I get cross with people sometimes when they are unpleasant.

Two L’s. It is Willey Hall.

Lunch, who is around sometimes, is a good friend from college’s husband. I did not know this for a very long time as he hid it from me on purpose, knowing who I was.

And one morning I woke up to realize I was sleeping with cjc. It was ackward.

Yikes.. I kinda hope this doesnt happen to me.. Too awkward.

I don’t think you’ll wake up sleeping with cjc Shopgirl. He’s married…

Serge did not rap (or if he did do a rap song, I’m sure it’s execrable).

No, I like MC Solaar. I also like Mano Negra, which is almost the same thing as Manu Chao. Somehow I’m only embarrassed by the French one–someday my ability to sing along with this rap will come in handy, right? Then who will the dork be?

MNspeak is one of my secret shames I keep on the downlow from everyone who isn’t on MNspeak.

C’est moi à coup sûr!

I like NCIS

Uh, yeah Douglas, sure. Anyhoo, I agree with you on female ballad singers.

1st rule of MNSpeak:
“nobody talks about mnspeak”

Haha no doug, meeting some one one here and realizing I work with them or something.

Try this little trick. It works for me. Do not make friends at work. Works like a charm!

I used to sing
“I love RocknRoll” at the top of my lungs when snowboarding through powder in Montana @ bridger bowl.

Other classmates would say I think I saw you at bridger when I was on the chairlift, were you singing joan jett? and i was all like damn right.

Well I still would know that we work at the same place, and are both on here..

Put another dime in the jukebox baby!

@jane: According to Gainsbourg’s Wikipedia page, MC Solaar sampled Gainsbourg’s “Bonnie & Clyde,” so Serge can’t be all that exercrable. ;)

I’ll have to look the title up when I get home (because the song is on my iPod) but Serge did a song with a Japanese vocalist that sounded “rappy.” That’s why his name came to mind when you mentioned French rap.

So, do French rap gangstas mark their territory with white flags?

Speaking of uncool things, a while back I had to have an EKG done, and unfortunately there is something wrong with my heart rhythm and they have yet to figure whatis causing it. Not to be be a debbie downer or anything..

Look on the bright side: At least they didn’t have to shave your chest.

Thanks, Kwatt.

And to conclude Douglas’s story, it was SO AWKWARD. Not really.

Mild cardiac arrhythmia isn’t terribly uncommon. I had it for a while. I think it was caused by too much caffeine.

I have a super slow heart beat and a large change in bloodpressure depending on whether I am standing or sitting. Whenever I go in for anything they make me wait around for a couple hours while a parade of people look me over. No one has found anything yet.

I just get a lot of “huh, that’s strange”

I’ve been through a lot of those tests, too. In the end, there was nothing.

Health issues have been a concern for a while now– I was hospitalized for 2 weeks because of them. So my doctors are determined to figure out whats wrong.

@ryanl: That’s the problem with modern medicine. They miss the obvious:

I found out I had a slow heart beat when I was in labor with my third baby and the nurse started freaking out saying I really needed to get it checked before I left the hospital. It was like thirty-five or something. My ob was very ho-hum, saying that I’m just healthy. Meanwhile I was having images of my children running around with knives while I was laying on the floor dead. Apparently, I’d had it all along and no other doc thought it was abnormal. I did have it checked out and it was just sinus bradycardia, and I am healthy. Although, looking at the echo and so forth made me feel really, really, mortal. It was eerie.

Interesting image you had.

Aaaand the daaaayyy draaaaaaaaags oooooonnnnnnnnnn.

ugh, I hear ya kwatt.. Fridays crawl by at a snail pace.

I got stuff to do and stuff, but normally time flys on a busy day. Today, though, it’s like, “You’re mine.” I just keep repeating to myself thereisnosuchthingastime, itisjustadeviceinventedbymanandusedtomeasurechange.

Wait, can we discuss how “Reading Rainbow” JUST ended yesterday? I know MNSpeak is mainly The Olds and the Less-Old-Slackers but anyone here watch it as a kid. Also, anyone else think it was canceled a long time ago?

- I too enjoy French rap and have listened to on Jane’s patio.
- It took me a while to realize that I lived in the same state and, as it turns out, often the same city as most of the people on MNSpeak. I was floored when I found this out.
- My secret shame is when I’m with other MNSpeakers and people say, “So, how do you guys know each other?” Honestly, at this point, it might be easier just to lie and say, “Craigslist Casual Encounters”.
- It’s also weird when I see other MNSpeakers commenting on other sites I read that aren’t about MN. I periodically see Sandburg on Gawker and we’ve commented on the same thread. Crazy!

Re: Reading Rainbow. I thought it had been canceled a long time ago. I guess parents will have to go back to doing it the old-fashioned way: Sitting down with their kids and reading together.

Re: French rap. I had a listen to my small Serge Gainsbourg collection. I should know the difference between rap and reggae by now, dontchathink?!

@Noodles re: Reading Rainbow

Wrong! Parents will just have to hope their kids don’t suffer not being read to until RR comes out on DVD.

You can take my word for it (insert music).

/who understood that joke?

Loved RR as a kid.

Noodles, stop mentioning Serge Gainsbourg in relation to rap. It’s time to just stop.

Bix, I just cheerfully say these are my internet friends, and leave it at that.

::: sigh ::: I remember the days when Serge Gainsbourg was considered a pioneer; an innovator; a French version of Millie Jackson (or vice-versa). Now he’s just taking the rap.
