In case I never get around to posting a reminder thread, here’s a poke:

MnRead: The House At Sugar Beach
Monday April 13, 2009 6:00 PMish
Vicky’s Restaurant in BC (Humbolt and Brookdale Drive)

My wife and I ate there last weekend. The service is warm and the food is awesome.

Also, if you want to prepare by learning more about the current state of Liberia, the president herself will be in the Twin Cities next week!

We still measure the power of engines against that of horses.

We need to start measuring engines against the unyielding power of…Beavers.

Go Beavers!

My captch is ‘win’…no joke.

Beavers are awesome.

The Bemidji State University Beavers are doing quite well.

Thanks for the reminder, kurtis. I have a co-worket who is reading the book and is planning to join us.

As an alum, I think this is a little bit less of a Cinderella story than it appears to the outsider. They’ve had terrific hockey for some decades. I’m not all that surprised at this turn of events. I suspect also they’ve got some players who are quite a bit better than anyone knew.

It’s fairly ironic for me. My latest ear worms are all Def Leppard, which blared in the dormitory halls when I was attending 2 decades ago.

Then, probably as now, the thing you did in the winter was walk across campus for the Friday and Saturday night hockey games, and then go ‘downtown’ (and here I think I use parentheses ironically) to the bars.

A bit of surprising news from Iowa.

Kevin, call your dad and tell him to paint the hog shed pink!

This is real opportunity for someone in the Twin Cities to be part of a very cool movie being shot in Minneapolis on Sunday.

Christina Cordoba and Juan Antonio del Rosario, the filmaking duo behind “Chasing Windmills,” are making a new film called “The System.”

I had a small role in the film which (with great regret) I have to give up. If you have a gray suit and a white shirt (Christina will provide a vest and tie), and are free this Sunday at 4 p.m. and want to be part of something cool, please contact Chistina.

Err, please contact Christina, rather.

Forgive me. I was distracted by a flock of wild turkeys.

That will certainly make Ragbrai more interesting.

Vicky’s Place is in Brooklyn Park, not Brooklyn Center. Here’s the link:

And the book is really, really good. I’m about half way through and I love it.

I just finished Part One, and am enraptured by Helene’s story so far.

Fox9 has some dramatic footage of a local police chase and crash, caught on traffic control cameras.

With Bob so full of happy news, we need “Little Eefin’ Annie” to lighten the mood.

Thanks, Douglas! Good news: no one was (seriously) hurt in the police chase.

Also, there is a Snuggie Pub Crawl in 7 Corners tonite. Snuggies vs Zombies? Something has to give in this town…

Oh, and the 501 Club, the downtown Minneapolis version of the 331 Club in nordeast opens on Monday, April 6. Unlike the 331, this joint offers a full menu.

I was in the 7 Corners/501 Club area this past weekend. Had my first Jucy Lucy at Grumpy’s. It was pretty good, especially with the tater tots. I think my experience was a bit better than my two friends’…my cheese ended up either being eaten or spilling on the plate. My friends ended up with cheese running down their arms.

Why am I just finding out about the Snuggie Pub Crawl? Was I not going on about one on Twitter months ago? This is somehow racist! But only because it’s been weeks since I’ve declared anything racist.

When did crafting powerpoints become so fucking hard? We tech guys do all the real work, day in and day out, designing software demos that actually make the sale. The sales team makes phone calls, has meetings, and play with powerpoint and act like they have the hard job. Assholes.

This is somehow racist!

You may be on to something, bix. The Snuggies are all white, and there’s an optional hood.

I knew it!

That little exchange got me thinking of my favorite line from “Blazing Saddles”

Bix, you took February off from determining whether or not something is racist, but then you forgot for all of March! So you may feel free to double down and call a lot of stuff racist.

So 25 comments on an open thread. How long has it been since the switch, and is it too soon to officially declare MNspeak dead. Cause I’ll do it, right now: The switch killed MNspeak. The message board on whatever is Secrets of the City lacks the pull and user interest.

The sheriff is nigh???

Heck, I found out about the Snuggie Pub Crawl from Lileks, probably the whitest person on Earth, next to me.

And I am typing this comment on a lily-white MacBook. You could have something there, Bixby.

I only remembered things could be racist because Barack Obama isn’t in the country. When he’s in America I keep forgetting we have racism. It took the Snuggie Pub Crawl oversight to remind me that we’ve got a long way to go in America.

In other post-post racial news, it’s about freakin’ time the Final Four started. Good grief.

I don’t care for that weallpaytheprice ad. It has a body getting shoved into a drawer in a morgue, like they’ve been murdered. Like they’re a John Doe. Most people smoke themselves into the grave with full knowledge of what they are doing.

That’s not accurate. But, what should you expect?

I don’t care for that weallpaytheprice ad.

Mission Accomplished.

Changing topic (although it does involve fire, smoke and ash), here’s another incredible collection of photographs from The Boston Globe’s “Big Picture” blog. This time its Mount Redoubt, Alaska, blowing its top.

Stunning.

The Rat thinks he’s going to skip opening night for the Twins from here on out. Those games are too crazy and from now on, they’ll be too cold.

He enjoyed going to the ball park more when the Twins stunk.

Last night reminded him of spending 16 hours in economy class last week.

Those games are too crazy and from now on, they’ll be too cold.

Don’t worry rat. There’s going to be enough of you thinking like that that MLB will end up only scheduling Twin’s home games between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

My guess, by 2020 the Twins will be bitching about how inadequate Target Field is and threatening to leave unless we buy them a brand new one (one that includes a roof).

Home openers will probably be after the first week or so into the season. That’ll make some difference.

Since there’s a good chance we won’t be communicating or I won’t remember what you said by 2020 that’s a pretty easy thing to say. Chances are good no one will be around to call you on it.

Trends, rat.

The average life span of sports stadiums is dropping like a rock. Orlando Magic started calling for a new arena before Amway Arena was 10 years old, and construction on a new arena is set to begin. Miami arena lasted only 20 years too.

I see the Star Tribune has discovered we Minnesotans like dive joints.
