Man, that was fast!

Wow. I was just having lunch with Blois Olson and he turned his phone off. He’s going to be pissed off that he missed this breaking news.

Another month and we could’ve gotten a baby out of this. Maybe. Or not.

It’s somewhat surreal that the Minnesota senate race and Michael Jackson’s body viewing are the breaking news stories on CNN.

I voted for him, but I’m underwhelmed.

I know. His last eight months in the Senate have been marked by inaction.

Two thoughts:

1. Bob, having lunch with you is far more impressive than getting breaking news on a Senate election. Blois is probably name-dropping you right now! “…I was with Bob Mr. Lungs when the announcement was made…”

2. We seemed fine with only one senator. Two almost seems excessive. After all…

BTW, as of June 21st, technically this dumb thing lasted for FOUR seasons.

Well, Coleman’s been beaten by an ex-wrestler and a comedian. What’s next for him, but a run for governor? The job he wanted in the first place.

As one person said, if you look at it certain way, it would be like he never even lost, he’s just continuing a campaign.

Pawlenty told CNN that he’d sign the certificate placing Franken if the Supreme Court decided in Franken’s favor.

What does T-Paw do if the national Republican Party brings pressure to bear on him not to sign it so that a filibuster-proof majority can be forestalled / avoided ?

That’s not quite right, g_rote. The Gov. said he would sign IF the Supremes directly ordered him too in their decision, which they did not.

He has practically begged the Court to get the monkey off his back and give him an “out.” They didn’t bite.

Franken’s victory comes as some important issues loom large in the Senate, including a SCOTUS nominee comfirmation, the energy and climate bill the house passed on Friday, and health care reforem legislation.

Technically speaking, he’s Senator 60, but it is a little more complicated than that.

I’m interested to know if Franken will get paid his Senate salary for the past several months. If so, I think that might annoy me.

The answer is no, Jane. See Jason’s Station for more Q & As. The idea to explain the amount of $ spent in terms of U of M tutition came, in part, from me.

Jane, no he won’t. That was reported several months ago, and Jason answered it last night too.

He won’t get paid until he’s officially sworn in.

Interestingly, I read yesterday that he can take an oath of office from a local judge, and would then have an official budget so he could immediately hire staffers. But, he won’t be able to vote or do some other official duties until sworn in at the Senate.
