I just gotta, y’know:

The comments on that article are going to be good reading for the day.

The featured comment wins:

“Many dogs now are smaller than cats. This is against God. I’m guessing Hoppy mistook these dogs for rodents. ”

Most of the comments are pretty harsh and recommend putting it down. I take a hard line on dangerous dogs, but seriously, a cat? Anyone who thinks you need to kill an aggressive cat simply doesn’t like cats. No 10lb animal can be a serious threat. I would never advocate euthanizing a 10lb dog, no matter what a little bastard it was (I may advocate kicking it, depending on the situation).

My beagle-jack is a sweet little boy, except when it comes to cats, which he hates passionately. A throwdown between Mister B and Hoppy would be deathmatch.

Like me and kwatt, best that they never come in contact with each other.

A 10 lb dog can still cause harm to children. It’s also a danger to itself–if it provokes a fight with another, larger dog, it could get itself hurt if the other dog acts to defend itself. Then, I’m sure, the owner would complain about how mean and agressive the larger dog was.

As the owner of a big dog (former racing greyhound), it really pisses me off when small dog owners don’t train their dogs. My dog happens to be a big, laid-back wuss, but it would not be acceptable if he was agressive.

I hate it when small dog owners either don’t bother to train their dogs, or think it’s “cute” when their dog is aggressive or anthropomorphize it by saying their dog is showing it’s not intimidated by bigger dogs. My dog happens to run away or ignore agressive dogs, but if he did take a chomp out of one in self-defense, I’d probably get sued or ask to pay for the vet bills.

Good point, Elizabeth.

As with people, it’s the nervous little shaky ones you have to watch out for.

Hoppy has raised the bar.

Catfu

I have trained him vigorously in CatFu but I think he might need a little more time in the octagon?

Ninja Cat fights goggie oppression with catfu kick and laser eyes:

Noooobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!

This Nasty Cat story was slugged above the fold in two sections (including the A Section) of the print edition of the Strib.

I don’t what that says about the state of newspapers, see our other thread, but it says something.

Klaus is obviously practicing the mantis style of Catfu in the picture above….you should see his drunken monkey.

Cat bites are very dangerous. I had a client who lost her arm due to a cat bite. There is some sort of toxin in cat saliva that can cause serious injury to humans. If bitten by a cat, wash the area immediately with soap and water and seek medical attention if the skin is broken.

@rat I think this is what they were hoping for.

A story like that was written for DIGG.

It’s funny though that it gets highlighted in print as well. Its a linkworthy story but offline that doesn’t translate quite as well.

kc’s ernest warnings about the dangers of Cat Scratch Fever would sound better if sung by Ted Nugent.

Also, it sounds a lot like the “A moose once bit my sister” gag in the opening credits of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”

Both cats in the article live in Linden Hills. That makes for THREE dangerous Cats in that area that I know of.

Linden Hills is the training ground for feline Taliban!

@Jane: What are you trying to say?

*crosses arms and taps foot impatiently*

I’m sending Jonathan to live in Cat’s neighborhood since it is clearly a haven for lawless C(c)ats.

Adding Jonathan to the mix will be awesome.

Me and the Dangerous Cat Posse, Yo!

Just for the record, Jonathan and the Dangerous Cat Posse would be a good name for a rock band.

Well, Jonathan cannot come into contact with cats with 4 legs and must stay indoors, so he’s more of a mafia don type of kitten. But I agree, Jonathan and the Dangerous Cat Posse would be a good name for a rock band. I’ll run that by him tonight and see if he wants to sell the rights to the name to you, DouglasG.

Small animals can hurt/kill as much as large animals. Doesn’t anyone remember the infamous story last year (not in MN) of a small dog eating the genitals of a baby?

As an avid runner, every time I’ve been chased by dogs in my five years here it has involved a small dog. Not only do I not want to be bitten by one, but when they run underfoot, I could accidentally end up stepping on its back and killing the damn thing. This nearly happened with TWO unleashed dachshunds whose owner willingly and knowingly let them roam as I was running by DESPITE knowing that they would give chase.

“Don’t worry!” she hollered at me as I was forced to jump into the street and run into oncoming traffic to avoid being bitten/stepping on her dogs.

I’m a dog and animal lover, but there is no place for such HUMAN misbehavior. That cat should’ve been inside.

Hey quit bustin’ my chops, them dogs was askin’ fer it.

Hey Ralphie, meetcha outside the dog park at dusk. Lets whup some doggy a**

Cats are happier and live longer if they are indoors, indeed.

Did the other cats sign the accord? ‘Cause if not, we’re all still freelance rogue kitties.

Quiet Ralph, you idiot! Don’t discuss da S. Mpls volatile cat club on da internet.

Wait, what? No. When the hell was this?

Oh wow, that’s horrible.

A cat will do what it pleases. The cats I keep now are curious, yet afraid of the outside world, but I’ve had a cat that would lick itself bald with frustration that she couldn’t get outside in January. A generalization, except this one, simply won’t do.

As for the dangers of cat scratches, I was in Utrecht last month, and a friend’s sharing of a kroket with a stray was not the price of admission to give it a pet. She’s fine, not that anecdotes from a worst-case scenario are definitive proof of anything. There’s vicious, then there’s fatal.
