If we ignore him maybe he’ll go away.
12:23 pm
8-8
And either way they still have fake horns drawn on their purple helmets.
I mean really.
12:39 pm
As a New England Patriots fan living in Minnesota, this will be fun spectacle to watch on the side. Anyone for an interceptions prediction?
12:46 pm
Wisconsin’s answer
1:00 pm
As a packer fan living in MN, I say bring it on. Woodson’s all over it. I think Rodgers could someday be better than Favre. Less picks anyways;)
2:44 pm
Ugh.
2:46 pm
If I were Childress, I would’ve told him to STFU and go retire already. Hiring Favre right now is the equivalent of having Babe Ruth on your team in 1935, i.e. a marquee name well past his prime.
2:53 pm
It’s the equivalent of Jordan going to the Wizards.
4:22 pm
Fun Fact: Favre was 6-10 at the Dome as Packer QB. Just sayin’.
Another Fun Fact: The Detroit Lions are 0-16 in road games I have attended (0-12 Metrodome, 0-2 Soldier, 0-2 Lambeau). I’m hoping Favre will give me just one little victory.
4:24 pm
Likes I said on Facebook — this is less like a football team and more like the premise for an Aaron Sorkin show about football.
4:29 pm
Kurtis, you are a national treasure.
4:29 pm
Let’s play a game of fill in the blank:
WI hasn’t felt this disappointed since ________.
4:46 pm
they became a state?
6:16 pm
Murrow took down Tailgunner Joe McCarthy.
6:51 pm
So if the Vikings have four quarterbacks on the roster, who is the odd man out?
… Rosenfels, the guy they just traded for?
… Booty, the guy they traded up to draft and have had every opportunity to cut over the years?
T-Joke wasn’t looking so hot last week.
6:53 pm
YES! THIS IS THE BEST DAY IN VIKINGS HISTORY AND MAKES UP FOR ALL THE heartbreak AND FAILURE, EXCEPT FOR THE LOSS TO THE FALCONS. BUT BRETT CAN AVENGE IT!
7:04 pm
Aw shucks, Andy. :kicks at floor: Does that mean I get to hang out with Nicolas Cage?
8:12 pm
WI hasn’t felt this disappointed since….Minnesota became a state in 1858.
7:25 am
WTH local teevee? You broke into the national news to cover the Favre news conference. ALL OF YOU?
You are dead to me.
8:32 am
It’s football, Bob. Why do you hate fun?
9:39 am
My last word on this:
This only works if Favre can still throw the deep ball effectively to keep opposing defenses from loading up on stopping the run. If he can’t, they just threw away this season and $12,000,000.
9:53 am
I wonder how long it will be until it catches on with Strib commentors that the V comes before the R.
9:55 am
I would discourage you from holding your breath.
9:57 am
g rote the 12 mill will be made in merch and gate by this time next week.
Winning is secondary.
10:13 am
Ryanol winning isnt even secondary, it actually not on the lists of priorities at all.
11:57 am
Rumor has it the Vikings got $4500 from the Government from the Cash for Clunkers program for Favre
12:00 pm
Hear that on the Zoo Crew radio this morning?
12:02 pm
Who is the zoo crew?
12:05 pm
Every major city has a Zoo Crew on Morning Drive time. You know, the crazy guys that talk about the home football team.
12:07 pm
Nope, my zoo crew is on vacation this week.
12:25 pm
That “joke” is a month old. http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20090729/GPG0601/90728104/-1/archive
I’m no dyedinthewool Viking fan, but I will say that the current Viking ownership has a proven track record that shows they value winning football as their top priority. They have acquired and retained 5 of the best defensive players in the NFL at their respective positions (Allen, Winfield, Williams, Williams and Henderson). They’ve also stuck with a boringly run-minded coach & system. That’s how you win championships, and not how you draw marginal dollars from the casual fringe football fan. This Favre move may be about a lot of things, but the very first thing it’s about is trying to get a Super Bowl ring.
12:28 pm
Saw a Favre Jersey on a guy this morning. Only foray out this rainy day.
If I see Scott Seekins coming out of the Surdyk’s cheese shop wearing one, I’ll know it’s a true movement.
1:42 pm
Rat, if there’s a white on white version, it’s possible.
1:43 pm
In fact, someone should suggest that to the Vikes’ marketing department.
1:56 pm
Every major city has a Zoo Crew on Morning Drive time. You know, the crazy guys that talk about the home football team.
We must’ve missed that memo.
1:59 pm
I guess.
They talk about the last game until Wednesday and start talking about the next game on Thursday.
Their listeners are generally the guys whose favorite time of the week is 5 p.m on Friday and whose worst time of the week is 8 a.m. Monday.
2:54 pm
G Rote I don’t deny that they are committed to winning, that is most important variable in the profit equation. But there is more than one way to grease a dolphin.
Favre is a has been, he hasn’t been good for anything other than media hype and interceptions for the last two-three years.
But he is better than what we had, combine that with the revenue he will generate and it’s obviously a win-win situation to bring him in here.
The Vikes will once again dissapoint the fans, AP will have a 1200-1500 yrd season, with 4 decent breakaway games. The defense will play good but ultimately our coach Johnny Mustache will screen pass us into oblivion.
