I’d rather eat Leopard or Snow Leopard or something.

I had some cold Soba noodles at Tanpopo recently. Nom nom nom.

I had breakfast at the GDC on Sunday and it was fantastic, had the egg sammy with tomatoes and avocado…delish. Skipped the coffee and went with a vanilla latte. I think GDC might have just edged out Gigi’s as my new favorite b-spot.

Nah. Just operating system code sandwiched between two slices of Linux.

@justpbob: Cold noodles is usually a summertime dish in Japan. Yes, it is very tasty, and you can make Hiyashi Chukka Soba at home. I will usually include a side dish of Hiyayakko Dofu, too, with barley ice tea.

Re: Good Day Cafe. Most excellent breakfasts. The wait for a table can be long, though, on a Sunday morning, but there’s often a seat or two available at the counter.

Hey Nood, do you know where to get good dashi in town without making it myself from scratch? I assume United Noodle. Is there a brand you recommend. I just want cold soba with dashi, but I’m not willing to pay $10 or more for a bowl of it.

Domo, noodlesan!

There’s a granular form called Hon-dashi you can buy at United Noodle, Kim’s Market (in St. Paul) and, perhaps, some of the larger Asian food stores that abound.
The measurement to use varies depending on what you’re using it for, but you can then use the broth for anything requiring dashi, like soba, miso soup, or tempura dip.
Look for packaging similar to this, or this.

That’s perfect noodleman! Thanks so much. I’m excited for some nummy soba lunches.

The French Toast at GDC is absolutely wonderful and you don’t hate yourself after eating 2 slices because it’s so thin.

I completely agree about GDC. Love their food. Especially the benedicts. But their coffee is terrible.
And I’d definitely call ahead on a Sunday morning. Otherwise, they move folks pretty quickly so what may look like a long wait upon entering the lobby is not actually so bad.
