Wren offers a few images from last year: http://the-waiting-line.blogspot.com/2009/05/art-whirl.html

This will be the first Art-A-Whirl I’ll miss in about 5 years. Sort of makes me sad. It is one of the best opportunities to see good art in the cities. And super excellent if you are looking to buy.
8:58 am
Thx for linking Max — I’m going to post it as an article on SOTC later too.
Where is everyone going for AAW? I can’t wait!!!
9:08 am
This is always a busy weekend for me, and for some reason I often am out of town in mid-May. This time I hope to stop by the Whirl after doing a noon interview about radon on the “Everything Green” show on KTNF-AM (950) on Saturday.
Perhaps I’ll run into Jason & family. I hear he’s a sucker for art glass. I wanna see some of that solar glass jewelry.

The art a whirl is great. I haven’t been in 2 years, but anytime I’m looking to actually buy soemthing, this is the way to go. If Art a whirl is kohls, the uptown art fair is saks fifth avenue.

Mrs. Lungs and I like to stroll the shops and studios on 13th, then have a drink and listen to the bands (free!) at the 331. Maybe have a spicy polish and a draft Grain Belt. That’s art!
9:12 am
Usually stop here for a beer and to watch the blacksmiths work
Stop at a few of the places on Quincy Street and over to a couple galleries on 13th Avenue.
Couple hours and we’re done. All the stuff is pretty much merchandise and it starts looking the same after awhile.
The people are “unique” looking.
9:15 am
Cool link, Rat. Haven’t been there before.
9:28 am
I am heading out of town to go fishing this weekend, so I won’t make the art a whirl. You know what would be really cool….
I figure this would be a good place to ask.
If anyone knows of artists or finds some at art a whirl, that make wall sculptures of any kind (metal, wood, ceramic), a link or something would be great. We are looking for a large piece to hang in our living room.
Thanks!

I’m bummed to still be out of town and miss Art-A-Whirl. I like to spend the whole weekend hanging out at 331. That whole neighborhood just has a perfect atmosphere.
9:33 am
Broken down to square feet, how much art are you looking for?
9:43 am
Probably no more than 12 sq ft.
a 3 by 3 or a 3 x 4 would be the max I guess.
10:16 am
Will check around. Because you know The Rat: He is All About Art.

Smiling at The Rat’s wry humor this morning.
Also picturing him buying a huge black velvet painting of dogs playing poker for baker’s living room wall.
Heh!
10:27 am
baker, you can also check out mnartist.org

the bar/restaurant on 13th ave and 4th street is open just in time. Northeast Social Club. looks decent, always good to have another option in the neighborhood.
3:23 pm
That looks like it’s in the location were the old Polish bakery/deli was located (no loss there).
Nice link, cubbie.
7:29 am
Nice to see Max, Cristina & Ang at the 331.
Art-a-whirl was, as usual, a nice weekend. Who bought art, and where? I just listened to some music, had a couple drinks, and grabbed a bit at the NE Social Club cubbie recommended.
7:29 am
Er, grabbed a bite, rather.
7:43 am
Social Club looks like a good addition to the neighborhood.
8:28 am
I bought a small steel wall hanging/sculpture from a guy in the NK building…sort of looks like fish skeleton.
8:49 am
Social Club looks like a good addition to the neighborhood.
Agreed. I look forward to coming back when they are not so busy.
8:58 am
When I saw the place, I thought about the run down Debonair Social Club in Raging Bull.
That was the scene where Tommy Como told Joey LaMotta that Jake was going to have to “hit the take” in his next fight if he wants a shot at the title.

Had dinner at the NESC on Friday. Food was simple and rustic. Started with the Fried Okra / French Fries App (7), pretty tasty and a large protion. I had the Chicken Breast over Cannelli beans (15) it was pretty tasty nothing I couldn’t pull off at home. Partner had an Arugla Salad w/ Bacon (7) and a bowl of the Veggie Soup (5).
Everything was fine. I probably won’t be back too often since nearly every item has beef or pork or lamb which I do not eat.
With 2 beers each the total with tip was $62.
11:34 am
Thanks for the review, Dougie_D.
I may stop in for apps and a beer later this week.
12:21 pm
Mmm, sounds good. Do they do breakfast?
I went to some art-a-whirl events, and my favorite part was the bonfire. It was huge when we first arrived; later I went over there and no one seemed to be monitoring it and I was cold with a very large stack of firewood nearby… got that roaring in no time!
1:56 pm
I liked the people in the fishbowl/glass box, at the grainbelt building. Performance art is weird.
