Anoka-Hennepin school district revises policy over sexual orientation

Well, that explains all the pink school buses I have seen lately.

Looks like the Homosexual Agenda wins again!

(grin)

I’m not sure there’s a way of addressing homosexuality in school without pissing off parents of teens, but I applaud any open and honest efforts by teachers to talk about it in a caring way.

You can’t talk about anything in science, math, or english classes without pissing off parents of teens so I am not sure what your point is aliecat.

This is a positive step forward. Perhaps if homosexuality was covered in my health classes I (and a few others) would of come out sooner and saved myself and many others much pain.

It should be taught as a matter of fact, without giving any deference to religious or parental intrusion. Like evolution.

In high school I was asked by the health teacher to give a presentation on nature vs. nurture debate in class. I think it was his way to let the class talk about homosexuality without him actually having to do anything contoversial. He knew it was important thing for kids to be educated on.

In my classroom we do not specifically discuss the “rightness” or “wrongness” of sexual orientation. Rather, we read texts by authors who are gay, and their stories help students to understand that regardless of what society thinks, all people experience the exhilaration of the ups and downs of intimate relationships. This particular class is primarily made of seniors of varying skill levels.

I think that’s a false neutrality. Heterosexuality is “right” without debate, but with homosexuality you have to back away. Aren’t things “right” by default unless they harm someone?

I like how they specified that the school board member who initiated the change wasn’t gay. Why do we care? Why are we suspicious of someone’s motives? If he had been gay, would it become selfish and somehow less valid?

Sort of how we always ask black people if something is racist or not (see DeRusha’s blog re soul food ad), since whites are apprently not qualified to make that assessment.

Yoshi, I didn’t really have a point I guess. That’s what happens when I comment before 8 am.
