A Stoplight that Will Never Change

There should be a blog strictly about Star Tribune comments. Perhaps it could partner with Overheard in Minneapolis or something.

Also, you spelled my name wrong.

You’re crazy. I spelled it right the first time and didn’t just go in and change it with my magical editing skills.

I saw this on the news yesterday. If they don’t want anyone to turn there they should just not allow left hand turns. If they are allowing turns, then the light needs to change. I could see some old lady getting stuck there for hours, afraid to run a red light.

Ha! I know that light and turn on red all the time. He could just turn on red and hope he never gets busted (not that I’m encouraging it, but hey…).

If they don’t want people turning onto that street during the night-time hours, why not take his suggestion, and post a sign prohibiting that?

Someone not familiar with the area is going to sit there for several minutes, decide the light’s malfunctioning, make the turn anyway, and end up with a ticket.

kc, to make it even odder, it’s actually a right hand turn, not a left.

“Someone not familiar with the area is going to sit there for several minutes, decide the light’s malfunctioning, make the turn anyway, and end up with a ticket.”

In my 5 years of living in SLP I have never seen someone pulled over in the entire city. And I’ve seen some pretty egregious traffic violations. People in SLP are shitty and inconsiderate drivers.

Except for me.

Driver’s Ed 101: is running a sign a lesser offense than a semaphore?

What type of offense is a semaphore?

I’m trying to picture where this is. 38th Street? What’s it by?

Anyhoo, I’d sit there a while and then turn on red. This semi-retired doctor has a point, but I suggest he move on and find another focus in his life.

Jane, it’s the cross street on the Trader Joe’s corner, I believe…or the one you take to get into the Wells Fargo.

I checked the Google Maps. I believe it’s the corner where Trader Joe’s is. I could be wrong but that’s what it looked like.

Also, the entirety of Excelsior is teh suck…especially the section that goes over 100. I think the only time I drive on it is when I’m going to Al’s.

Oh, that corner. Eh, I’d just turn.

I have never read Strib or PiPress comments before. Wow. I’m appalled. I need to go stick my head in the sand and try to pretend most of those people don’t exist.

Granted, some of them have a point about a non-functioning light designed to keep people from using a road. That kind of pisses me off too.

Think of teh childrens!

That has always been a weird corner, traffic-wise. So what? SLP is weird. No one ever pretended otherwise.

I’ve often considered writing a post here that asked the question “Which is the weirder suburb, X or SLP?” Maybe I should just ask what’s the most f-ed up suburb and why?

Maybe I should spend less time on the internet :)

I’ve always been suspicious of Hopkins.

They’re up to something over there.

Oh, for sure. They’ve got gun shops and shifty eyes out Hopkins way.

Not to mention Soviet looking apartment complexes.

Plus every single time I go to a play there it’s really snowy and I get in a minor traffic mishap on the way home. I mean it. Every. single. time.

OK, I’ve only been to a play in Hopkins once and that happened, but never again!

Clearly, there is something going on there. It should be the next Good Question.

Brooklyn Center, FTW (or the loss).

Wait, no. I forgot that Anoka trumps all in the which-mn-city-is-more-f’d-up game. However, in which-suburb-entirely-in-Hennepin-County-is-more-f’d-up game, Brooklyn Center wins.

I started a Strib Comments blog last year but I’m too lazy to update it.

That’s completely understandable. Chronicling the stupidity of Strib comments is a full-time job with a high burnout rate.
