Call this a pimp if you will, but check out The Rake’s fiction issue this month. Some great stuff from Brad Zellar, Kate DiCamillo and others.

Cops v. books is a false dichotomy

The fallacies of reasoning were better when Matt was here.

I don’t know anything about sports, or Saint Paul, or whether it’s legal to post videos of your ex-girlfriend. But I’ll do my darnedest to find some interesting links. (Please HELP!)

or whether it’s legal to post videos of your ex-girlfriend.

I presume it is not legal, or Rex would have posted some homemade porn long ago.

Always get signed releases, fellas!

Is Virgil Goode-Keith Ellison going to be a separate post, or did I miss it? It seems like everyone is doing their best to put the controversy on themselves, not him.

(Current location: 39th/Lake)

Oh dear. Can someone show me how to take a video off the internet? Will Geek Squad help? ;-)

Listening to the post-game “Vikings’ Whine Line” on KFAN was much more entertaining than the game itself. Usually is these days.

I presume it is not legal, or Rex would have posted some homemade porn long ago.

Not to be confused with the much anticipated return of lexi.

Anyone else think the cover of the Mpls Almanac has too many pictures of downtown? I’d remove the halo building.

I know Matt’s found huge success with MNSpeak, but isn’t it a little premature to be expanding to China?

Ok, it’s a pimp, but the story “When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth“, by Cory Doctorow, is great, and probably even funnier to the geeks of the world. It’s quite long, so you may want to just pick up the issue that will be out Tuesday.

Well, Cory’s been pimping it on BoingBoing for months, at least, so I don’t see why you shouldn’t be allowed to pimp it a little too.

While we’re pimping, did anybody see the new cocktail I invented? Good stuff, sez I.

Matt is really shoving it in the face of Jim Oberstar, who opposes giving Northwest a non-stop route from MSPIA to China because other companies will run the flight from Washington, DC, where Oberstar lives.

Way to go, Matt!

Max, here’s my Christmas cocktail: pour Black Bush Irish whiskey in a glass. Drink. Repeat.

But Bushmills is a Protestant whiskey.

Yeah, but I like it better than Jameson. I figure I’m going to hell anyway since I married a Protestant.

Ha. Although I am Irish-American, thanks to being adopted by Jews, I don’t have to participate in these petty sectarian squabbles, so I can enjoy a Black Bush without feeling guilty. I am also partial to Red Breast.

Chuck, you should totally post in Vlog Santa’s voice the whole time. That would be awesome.

What you call porn I call life.

Buddhist-approved holiday libation:

The Lime Thing
4 parts white rum (Baccardi Limon, if you have it)
1 part Roses sweetened lime juice

Mix in a coctail shaker over ice.
Strain into a highball glass.
Add a splash of tonic.
(Yes, it’s really just a Rum Gimlet with tonic.)
Ask the waitress for another one.
Repeat.
After #6, ask waitress to call you a cab.
Laugh when she says, “You’re a cab.”

Ahhh…McNulty from “The Wire”. The best character on the Best show evah!!!

Give me a nice tall bottle of Jameson any day!

A shot of Bailey’s to take the edge off.

And a pint of Guinness to confess my sins to….

I’m a Bunk Moreland fan myself. But you are correct Raindog. “The Wire” is alway good, but this season was absolutely off the chain.

Chuck is featured in this month’s issue of Metro, as well.

Buzzcut Iowegians in the front seats on the 21… openly clueless about where they’re going, getting misinformed at least once so far. We’ve JUST crossed Hiawatha, and the bus is starting to fill up. In another city, they’d be eaten alive.

Fresh Fish!

I loves me some black bush, but in re whiskey, a prefer a bracing glass of laphroaig with a few splashes of distilled water.

Tullamore Dew also has a nice flavor to it.

Irish whisky is just too damn smooth-”sliding down a mink bannister into a brick wall”-single barrel bourbons force you to savor the complex flavors, and so take longer to imbibe (for me, anyway) giving you a chance to hit the brakes before the crash. And they’re American, so you don’t add to the trade deficit.

just made the lime thing- a delicious drink. Thanks!

We’ve seriously gone through a bottle of Bushmills in the last week. Just got another one tonight. I discovered Tullamore Dew in Iowa City of all places – best single malt Irish whiskey I’ve ever had.

Oh, and Max, my girlfriend is upset that you published a drink called the Snowball. She thought she invented it. Your Dr. Pepper concoction sounds good though, and it was a good read.

She wishes she invented the Snowball. Alcoholic grannies everywhere would be indebted to her.

I’ll chime in only to say that I’m a recent convert to ‘the wire.’ awesome show. I’m only a few years behind because I’ve no TV and finally got around to netflixing it.

The culture and race that brought us

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
. . .
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

has also given us, fittingly, a beverage called “Irish Whiskey”, the consumption of which reminds us that the worst are, indeed, intense.

(Ick. Pain in a bottle.)
