Ziggy = PWNED.

Ziggy’s hardly PWNED, dude.

Isn’t this kind of like breaking up with a girl weeks after finding out she’s boning your buddy and not having the cojones to confront either of them….um, Anoka, they may not have said it publicly, buy you’ve been broken up for a while, and Ziggy has a rich new boyfriend named Hennepin.

“Los Angeles Vikings” kinda has a nice ring to it, dontcha think?

More like Blaine = PWNED

Used to get RT and the Minneapolis l33t haxxors serious about re-inventing the Metrodome.

They were NEVER really serious about the Anoka County site, ya N00b!

This is great news. They can easily upgrade the Metrodome to a more presentable venue. Who the hell wants to go all the way out to dead Blaine for an event?

BTW, Ziggy won’t move the team. He’s just trying to negotiate with Hennepin County, who gives up its taxpayers’ rights for rich ball club owners at the drop of a hat.

metrodome wont be upgraded. it will be demolished.

ziggy will get the land for free as part of the deal.

You don’t need to be a Vikings fan to know how much money gets turned over in the city during football season.

Blaine’s loss is a gain for Minneapolis.

The Twins did it right. Reach the agreement first, then go public.

Like they did with the St. Paul referendum? Whatta bunch of rubes over there.

I trust a pro sports team owner’s word about as much as the guy who needs fifty cents for bus fare. At least we know now that the Vikings’ future in Minnesota will live and die on the Metrodome site.

I don’t know who is favored by this information, but I took the time to put it in a spreadsheet. I think there’s an argument to be made for either side of the issue of whether the Vikings need a new stadium.

Median NFL stadium age: 10
Mean NFL stadium age: ~16
Age of Metrodome: 24

Mean NFL stadium age (hosting a Super Bowl team): ~21
Mean age of stadiums older than the Metrodome (of 8 or 9, depending): 35

Of the stadiums that are older than the Metrodome, almost all of them are at some point in the planning phase for a new stadium, and those that aren’t are in small/marginal markets like New Orleans, Kansas City, and Buffalo.

I’m inclined to let the Vikings take the land and pay no taxes on the land DURING construction, because it’s going to waste, otherwise, but I don’t plan on supporting another local tax to get things going. The team also needs to make a long-term agreement to stay in the city, and to not come back and beg for a new toy after they get bored with the old one.

“and to not come back and beg for a new toy after they get bored with the old one.”

So the only people setting foot in a new stadium are going to be the players and management?

keep in mind we are still paying the 3% extra bar/restaurant sales tax that was supposed to end when the metrodome was paid for (15 years ago).

Also, can anyone explain to me how dinkytown ot included in the “downtown” tax area? this was supposed to hit business that directly benefited from the metrodome events.

oh well. mpls will keep taxing as long as we keep paying

On behalf of many of my fellow AC residents, we bid Zig and his stadium a not-so-fond farewell. $800,000 poorer and a just little wiser, the Ankoka County commissioners finally pulled the plug on this bad deal.

Good luck with this guy, Minneapolis/Hennepin County.

LOL @ the idea of these taxes ever expiring. We should all know by now that once government dips its cup in a revenue stream it never comes out.

Well, the gophers have played there … at will until their new stadium is complete.

Good.

This is probably better for Anoka County. Always seemed to me they were getting the short end of the stick.

I just hope, being a Minneapolis resident, that I don’t end up paying for a stadium that I don’t even get use of or any benefit from.

what, you mean like how I’m paying for the twins stadium and I don’t like baseball?

nope, I doubt that will ever happen … oh.

as long as they keep on losing and raping maybe none of us will have to build them a new playground

the vikings suck to they don’t need a new stadium its a waste of money!!!!! :)

I wish the Vikes would just move to L.A. already.
