Reading this morning that Clear Channel is getting purchased by a private entity, I couldn’t help but feel very, very queasy. Of course, I always feel very, very queasy when Clear Channel gets brought up. Maybe the fine folks at Crosswalk.com could buy up some shares and we could really take media back! Somewhere in the hills, George Orwell, Jerry Falwell, and Mao are all thinking that everything is going according to plan…

I don’t think Mao was into “private” anything, certainly not a media entity.

Arthur Jensen: It is the international system of currency which determines the vitality of life on this planet. THAT is the natural order of things today. THAT is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today. And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature. And YOU WILL ATONE. Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little 21-inch screen and howl about America, and democracy. There is no America; there is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.

I think what Raindog is trying to point out is that complete consolidation of power in the hands of one entity, something so feared by the mazasapas of the world, is ironically the stable fixed point of unchecked capitalism.

That can’t be true! I read Atlas Shrugged when I was in high school and it says that the free market will liberate everything and everybody, and if you suffer it is because you suck!
Nothing that has happened to ne since high school has changed my opinion, because I have not read a single book since then.

Sparber, you almost had me there!
Too bad you didn’t take Atlas to heart.
Wooden as it is.

Ayn Rand has a lot to answer for. Fear the college student after a dose of The Fountainhead.

Max, your comment sounded like every column Craig Westover ever wrote.

What exactly was the point of this post, anyway? The linked article states pretty plainly that this won’t affect any of the CC-owned stations in the market, so it couldn’t be that. Clear Channel bashing? Crosswalk.com bashing? Couldn’t we have snuck in a snide remark about The Current while we were at it? At least that would have been local.

You’re the guy that did that baseball post, right? (Sorry, nevermind . . .)
The head local CC guy said, this won’t affect us at all!
I remember when my last employer got bought out. The local guy said, this won’t affect us at all!
Then, later, after we all found NEW employers . . .

One of the companies that bought it, Bain Capital, was started by Mit Romney. He is outgoing governor of Massachusetts and will be a 2008 Republican presidential candidate. I believe he is still a principle.
