...I meant girls are gamers too. Girls (like me) like Nintendo. It's friendly, fun and accessible.

Gotta agree with tmay about the non-gamer marketing of nintendo. And ya know what, I love cute fun games. Remember Pokemon Snap? It's the only 64 game (aside from Ocrania of Time & Mario Golf) that I still enjoying playing occasionally on that old console. Does anyone know if they're releasing it for Wii?

chel, I can recommend the DS lite wholeheartedly. It's really got a lot to offer, especially to people who aren't normally gamers. The fact that it's done so well with non-gamers is probably why nintendo is forging ahead with their plans for the wii to capture the non-gamer market, because really, cute little fun games are what the've always been best at. Some people would rather have fun than see flashy super ultra nextgen $700 graphics, and that's who nintendo is there for.

I think its instructive that the average age of today's gamer is 29. 30 is the new 21.

Zelda games typically don't have dark colors (a la SOCOM or something) throughout as a rule - although this new one is supposed to look more "mature" cos of all of the manly babies out there too insecure to play fun games that actually look like fun games.

I'm not worried about the Wii controller being like the Power Glove. The Power Glove was a controller... just like the NES Advantage was - just like the U-Force was - just like the Power Pad was... a bad controller isn't going to fail an entire system. Look at the first Xbox controller. That thing was a pile and they put out a better, smaller version of it and they were fine. Did the Dreamcast controller kill their system? I doubt it... but that thing totally sucks ass too.

The Wii controller looks radical... you can use the wand remote thing together with the nunchuk controller for analog stick movement... or as just a single wand controller. You can turn the remote sideways and use it as a classic controller... and they also make a classic controller for it that looks much like a PS2 or Gamecube controller. It's going to be interesting to see how game developers use these controller options to make innovative new games that aren't the same old regurgitated crap we've had for the last X amount of years.

I'm excited anyway. Sucks about GTA though... I doubt that will make it to the Wii.
technology has come a long way since the glove and so has nintendo's ability to make things like that more than gimmicky. See also: DS touch-screen games.

There are some good games coming out for Wii (Zelda particularly that is yes, your typical RPG with dark colors/themes and upgraded graphics...) But Mantenna, what I worry most about is that the Wii's controller is going to end up being another flop just like the Glove. Which if I remember correctly, was more novel than innovative.

"Right now there are so many great games for 360 at the moment (Oblivion, Dead Rising, Gear of War, etc...) that's it's hard justify buying a Wii or PS3 right now."

That is unless you're tired of playing the typical upgraded zombie/alien/war/role playing game with the same depressing dark drab "realistic" colors yet again with slightly better graphics. Which is all the Xbox systems ever seem to be good for aside from sports games.

I'm going to go for the Wii without question cos it just flat out looks fun to play... I've seen a bunch of youtube clips of people playing it... and it looks new and fun. I got a DS cos that was a new approach to handheld gaming... and I love it. I take it with me everywhere I go. I expect the Wii will be a similar if not better experience.

I'm sure the 360 and the PS3 will have their must-have games that I will wish the Wii had... but I think the price difference alone will ease the pain.
