MPLS vs NYC – Cost of Living

oh great, not more ‘mini-apple’ bs

I like how they compare the cost of living by looking at salaries of first-year attorneys. People will be shocked to learn that associates at Cravath and Dorsey can both live quite comfortably (at least w/r/t housing and material possessions). What about blue-collar workers, creative professionals, etc.?

I thought we were the “Hugh Cherry”

That is more of a fair comparison than say, NYC and Tulsa or NYC and Madison, or anyone else in the median. I got to say though, I only know a few people that pull down $100K here every year, so I don’t think that’s a very appropriate comparison, lawyers/lawyers.

That’s a good point, MLH. There are probably dozens of NYC firms that match Cravath for associate base pay, but there are only a few Mpls firms that are on the same level as Dorsey/Faegre. I am really clueless about financial issues, but I guess I would be surprised to know that very many associates — outside of the major Mpls law firms and the IP firms (M&G, Fish) — earn over $100k.

If nothing else, people should think about that before borrowing $90k to go to law school….

We got some points for exporting Lanpher, I hope?

That’s right kids, if you’re Minnesotan you should pay attention in chemistry and biology and go for that Med school degree. There aren’t as many jokes and the worse penmanship the better.

If I could go back in time, I’d get an engineering degree but use it in a creative field (architecture, social software, consumer electronics, etc.). I’m happy with my useless liberal arts B.A.’s (three of them!) though.

I think MoMA is probably worth the double sawbuck. Whether I think the Walker is worth $8 depends entirely on my mood that day.

I always think that MIA is worth the $0.

The walker is well worth it on free thursdays

The Walker have to pay The Rat to see Yoko Ono’s talking butt video and the video of the guy pushing paint with his face.

That’s Target Free Thursday Nights at the Walker.

What an unfair comparison. We don’t use your fancy East Coast “dollars,” New York, duh. Every heard of a little something called “beaver pelts”?
