Commissioned for KSTP, a poll conducted Sunday-Tuesday by SurveyUSA was released yesterday showing Michelle Bachmann leading Patty Wetterling and John P. Binkowski 49%-43%-5% with 3% undecided. This poll has already generated some discussion over at Eric Black’s Big Question blog. Catch/DVR the MN6 debate Friday at 7 on channel 5 with rebroadcasts on KSTC over the weekend!

Just goes to show we never should have done away with the literacy test for voters.
1:41 pm
I enjoyed this letter from the Pioneer Press (via Dump Michele Bachmann blog):
Whom do the others favor?
So Michele Bachmann says “God called on her to run for Congress” and He “is now specifically focused” on her race. Do any other deities have a favorite in Minnesota’s 6th District this year? Allah? Zeus? Odin? Thor? Dagon, the half-man, half-fish god of the ancient Philistines? The public deserves to know.
MARK VESLEY
St. Paul
Dagon told me that MB is a crazy, hateful witch. Him and God should probably have a meeting and work this out so the gods have a consistent endorsement.
1:44 pm
Just like I’ve been saying — although the final margin will be more like 4%. Why does anyone think differently? Wetterling and her people don’t have the tenacity to fight a Michele Bachmann, nor does Tim Walz really have a chance in the 1st, despite this excellent independent expenditure.
1:47 pm
Just curious: would responses to these first two posts represent the initiation of overly-political partisan posting?
.
1:54 pm
well technically Yaweh, God and Allah are all the same diety and really only differ in what divine interventions various groups think they had (as well as what said diety wants you to do).
I prefer the two and ten gods of Kobol, though.
2:00 pm
I wonder if MB likes young boys?
2:02 pm
“I wonder if MB likes young boys?“
You’d share with her? I didn’t think you even liked her.
2:07 pm
Yeah, I totally shouldn’t have bothered. Thanks for putting it up anyway, Matt.
2:07 pm
Other obvious things about MB aside what does she bring to the table other than promising to vote the party line on everything put in front of her?
Will her husband have to quit his lucrative gay deprogramming business to sit next to her and tell her how to vote on every issue?
2:11 pm
Just curious: would responses to these first two posts represent the initiation of overly-political partisan posting?
No because liberals are not subject to the same standards as conservatives and are certainly not considered partisan when making such remarks.
2:15 pm
Wetterling and her people don’t have the tenacity to fight a Michele Bachmann
Well I thought the ads that say Bachmann is going to raise your taxes 23% (what?!) and Wetterling is going to cut your taxes (ha ha ha ha ha!) was pretty tenacious if lying is considered tenacious.
2:20 pm
“Will her husband have to quit his lucrative gay deprogramming business . . . “
Popular misconception. Most of the big money left the gay deprograming business when the people paying the bills started watching Queer Eye For The Straight Guy and realized that they were giving up valuable fashion expertise.
.
2:20 pm
Fact:
Anti-gay people are usually closeted homosexuals.
Ahhh the Irony that is the silly right wing loonies!
I hope she wins -she will be a constant source of satire for the Daily Show.
She’s such a joke I can’t even hate her…I just laugh!
2:25 pm
Anti-gay people are usually closeted homosexuals.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
2:30 pm
“Fact:
Anti-gay people are usually closeted homosexuals.“
I’m sorry, I think maybe I was unclear. My “sharing” post wasn’t a “gay” joke, it was a “pedophile” joke. There’s a difference.

2:31 pm
If you’re dumb enough to live in the 6th district, you deserve Michelle Bachmannnn.
2:34 pm
So Michele Bachmann says “God called on her to run for Congress” and He “is now specifically focused” on her race.
God sure has a weird sense of humor.
As long as she doesn’t hire on famine, war and plague as her staffers, I guess I won’t worry too much. I don’t think they even live in the district anyways.
2:35 pm
Jesus Chsrist, Matt. Isn’t there something we can do about naked partisan trolling? From both sides? If this discussion can’t be rooted in actual facts, and instead consists merely of loonies insulting each other from opposite sides of the fence, then who is going to want to participate?
2:49 pm
I hope that voice in her head that she calls “God” doesn’t tell her to do something stupid. Oh wait, she is running for congress…
3:05 pm
“I wonder if MB likes young boys?”
actually her hubby does.
3:11 pm
All I know is I dig La Michele and bobby b cracks me up!
3:27 pm
Jesus Chsrist, Matt. Isn’t there something we can do about naked partisan trolling?
It’ll be better after the election… hopefully.
3:41 pm
g_rote: If you’re dumb enough to live in the 6th district, you deserve Michelle Bachmannnn.
Comment of the Day!!!
3:51 pm
How about some facts!
Here are some bills that were sponsored by MB in the last session and what we can expect from her if elected.
SR0034 Text Description Bachmann A senate resolution recognizing February 6, 2005 as Ronald Reagan’s birthday in the state of Minnesota
SF0813 Text Summary Description Bachmann Ronald Reagan beltway designation
SF0840 Text Summary Description Bachmann Resolution urging death tax repeal
SF0839 Text Summary Description Bachmann Estate tax abolishment

SF1691 Text Summary Description Bachmann Constitutional amendment to recognize marriage as union between one man and one woman
SF3526 Text Summary Description Bachmann Shawn Silvera memorial highway designation
SF2184 Text Summary Description Bachmann Nutrition and hydration provision presumption
Fun!
4:22 pm
Looks promising! I love that “Voter registration proof of citizenship and picture identification requirements” bill, otherwise known as the “Illegal Aliens Can’t Vote Anymore” bill.
4:26 pm
I love nutrition and hydration! Go Bachmann!
4:32 pm
Why have there been polls for the 6th district, and all the other major races- but none for the 5th district?
Maybe there have there been, that I just haven’t noticed.
anyone have info about this? Thanks
4:32 pm
We all know what happens when you presume.
You make a priest out of u and me.
4:42 pm
That nutrition one is actually rather scary.
Subd. 2. [PRESUMPTION.] (a) It shall be presumed that
2.19 every person legally incapable of making health care decisions
2.20 has directed the person’s health care providers to provide the
2.21 person with nutrition and hydration to a degree that is
2.22 sufficient to sustain life.
2.23 (b) No guardian, surrogate, public or private agency,
2.24 court, or any other person has the authority to make a decision
2.25 on behalf of a person legally incapable of making health care
2.26 decisions to withhold or withdraw hydration or nutrition from
2.27 the person except in the circumstances and under the conditions
2.28 specifically provided for in subdivision 3.
Do you want the government making decisions for you if your incapacitated or your famly?
4:54 pm
That sounds like playing G-d to me. If someone’s gonna die, shouldn’t you you let divine nature take it’s course?
4:54 pm
Do you want the government making decisions for you if your incapacitated or your famly?
More likely, “Do you want the government to pull the plug on you if you’re incapacitated?”
It seems to me that Bachmann’s bill tries to eliminate the Soylent Green scenario. You know, the government shall decide when it’s time for you to go.
5:07 pm
Well, thank goodness she’s addressing a fictional science-fiction scenario. I hope her next bill makes certain that the Voyager satellite doesn’t attain intelligence and return as the Godlike V-ger.
5:13 pm
More likely, “Do you want the government to pull the plug on you if you’re incapacitated?”
I want my wife to make that decision. Which is a right/duty she received when we got married. Taking that right away from her is an attack on the sanctity of marriage as far as I’m concerned. Previous to that, my parents had that right/duty. I think most people, like myself, trust their next of kin much more than they trust the government.
5:33 pm
Simpleton wins.
That’s 2 days in a row.
(Your fart comment from yesterday took the cake.)
You go.
…eewww fart cake.
5:47 pm
“I want my wife to make that decision.“
I was talking to her about this last night. No worries – she will.
(Seriously – remember that this was Bachman’s Schiavo Amendment – and that situation involved the spouse having that right – even though the spouse had been living with another woman for quite some time, was actively tired of having a brain-dead wife, and wanted to move on. In that situation, there’s at least an arguable conflict of interest, and, personally, I might balk at having my wife make the decision in such circumstances.)
.
6:08 pm
I bet your wife would love to make that decision tho bobby-b.
Sleep with one eye open, bro–
6:13 pm
I feel bad for our country.
You’d have to be extremely ignorant to vote for that batshit crazy M-B.
6:33 pm
Yep, this should eliminate any lingering laughter done by the rest of the country about electing the rassler.
6:53 pm
Bye bye Patty!
Caryc, you can leave the country NOW, please.
Woman who declares religious / family values = “batshit crazy”?
You need to self-examine.
Deeply.
Perhaps Rainonevryonesparadedog can help.
7:22 pm
Thank god for the 6th district. It helps us in the 5th district feel like we have great choices!
7:41 pm
KSTP TV commission the poll from Survey USA? It figures. Ron Hubbard is nothing more that a GOP shirll. Don’t believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Tom Hauser and those right wing hacks at the station; yet KSTP has never reached number one in the local news ratings in the last two years or more. And besides, the station however had reshuffled their news department like musical chairs. Nobody wants to work with them as a prime time news anchor.
FYI: KSTP TV’s radio sister, AM 1500, is sinking like the Edmund Fitzgerald in the local radio ratings in the last year. Too bad GOP. Consertative talk radio is heading out the door as more people tuned away……….
7:45 pm
bud jr,
I respect people with religious values and family values, but don’t you find it even a little troubling when someone thinks that God is talking to them?
8:00 pm
I guess you can learn alot about a place by working in their cafeteria, eh?
8:03 pm
but don’t you find it even a little troubling when someone thinks that God is talking to them?
Religious intolerance is one of the many reasons why I stopped voting democrat.
8:25 pm
Big G: KSTP-AM’s steep decline in ratings correlates with their conscious turning away from a conservative identity. If conservative talk radio is “heading out the door” your example is not evidence of it. In fact, it is evidence of the opposite.
8:47 pm
KSTP is turning AWAY from its conservative identity??…..have you listened to them lately?? Bob Davis in the mornings is conservative…..Joe Soucheray in the afternoons is conservative…..Dave Thompson at night is conservative. They’ve gone away from the syndicated rightwing talkers to local guys, that’s all. Dave Thompson is the only one I enjoy tuning in once in awhile, he’s articulate even if I disagree with his positions, he’s not a hothead shouter like Rush or O’Reilly and he’s willing to look at things from other people’s perspectives and he lets callers have their fair time on the air with him. From what I’m reading in the paper, KTLK has yet to catch on in this market and they are hurting far more than KSTP.
8:56 pm
Mazasapa-
You blew it!
You lose!
You get nothing!
9:00 pm
hahahaha, religious intolerance.
I’m sorry, I’m tolerant of religion, but when someone claims that god is focusing on their goddamn political race and told them personally to run (but to ask their husband first, of course!) is when I call them batshit crazy.
Michele Bachmann is a bigot, and her form of fundamentalist Christian conservativism is just a bad deal for everyone.
9:29 pm
If you’re dumb enough to live in the 6th district, you deserve Michelle Bachmannnn.
G Rote, that’s a dumb ass statement. Middle class families are being squeezed out of cities nationwide. It’s getting to the point where if a person wants to buy a decent house they have to buy in the burbs just to afford it.
Instead of embodying the liberal elitist stereotype, why not actually say something productive?
10:08 pm
Michele Bachmann is a bigot, and her form of fundamentalist Christian conservativism is just a bad deal for everyone.
Well, it probably wasn’t a bad deal for the 23 foster kids she and her husband raised, in addition to their own 5 kids.
11:19 pm
Religious intolerance is one of the many reasons why I stopped voting democrat.
Mazasapa, you say that people who are wary of those who think God is talking to them are intolerant of religion.
Let’s say you get out of your car tomorrow when someone approaches you and says “God told me that you should give me $100.” They don’t just say it, they truly believe it. I wouldn’t call you intolerant for saying no, or for thinking they were crazy.
8:30 am
I’m surprised that no one has actually checked to see how long she had these foster kids. I know it wouldn’t do any good to Patty to bring up the point but I would be interested.
Well, it probably wasn’t a bad deal for the 23 foster kids she and her husband raised, in addition to their own 5 kids.
Did she raise these kids or were they transitional stop overs at her house while awaiting more permanent situations. I’m not trashing her for doing this its admirable but to imply that you raised 23 foster children when they may have only been with your family a short time is disingenuous.

Would you say that the Pope’s crazy when he says that god speaks to him? What about your parrish priest? What about a nun who says she joined the order because god spoke to her? And it seems to me that there’s a lot of priests and nuns who are politically active for the left. No one on the right claims they’re crazy.
9:42 am
I would think the most effective way to run against MB would be to just hammer on the fact that she would just be another rubber stamp voter for Bush’s and the Evangelical Right’s agendas and then quote from the Bills she has introduced that ape current Republican Party Platforms.
I don’t have the figures but I don’t think that many people in MN are ardent Evangelicals. It’s just the few of them that there are make a hell of a lot of noise in our quiet state.
I really dislike the “they voted against” ads. Everyone votes against bills because they don’t like the numerous riders that are added at the last second or they parallel bills are moving through the process and they veto the one is less likely to pass to clear the way for the one they prefer.
9:44 am
Maz, do we judge the veracity of their G-d-talking claims based on whether we ascribe to their politics? I mean, doesn’t Allah give directives to suicide bombers, didn’t David Koresh have him on speed dial, wasn’t G-d serving the Kool Aid in Guyana as well?
I’m a G-d fearing person, but whenever someone tells me that they’re talking to G-d, or on a mission from G-d, I run for the exit. People are people, no matter what they claim, or what sort of pedestal their religion or political party may put them on.
I surmise that the reason that folks on the right don’t currently call a spade a spade in this case is that George Bush met G-d on the beach after a stroll with Billy Graham in 1985, and they know that by proclaiming that you’re acting on directives from G-d, you undermine any rational discourse on the issues.

Actually, I saw her on KSTP’s “in your own words” segment where they gave her 2 minutes (i think) as well as the other candidates, to apeal to the voters and she basically said she’s a conservative republican who believes in small government, low taxes, strong defense and she loves her country. She said she’d make the tax cuts permanent, vote to make it harder for illegal aliens to come into this country, support our efforst against terrorism, and the other republican planks. She couldn’t have made it plainer I don’t think that she’s a conservative republican.
Patty Wetterling never even mentioned that she was a democrat and mumbled some stuff about “protecting your children.”
I was very pleased with MB’s performance.
10:30 am
She couldn’t have made it plainer, I don’t think, that she’s a conservative republican.
missing commas. heh

All she’s doing is tailoring her comments to the audience. If she had said anything close to what she said at the Brooklyn Park church, too many people would realize that she’s batshit crazy.
10:41 am
I’m not sure throwing your scarf in with the Current Regime is such a good idea. Have you seen the approval ratings?
10:58 am
From what I’m reading in the paper, KTLK has yet to catch on in this market and they are hurting far more than KSTP.
I’m sorry. Neither of the two radio stations from what I read in Arbitron website are doing well, locally. Until now, WCCO AM is at the top, ranking number 2 among listeners in the Twin Cities, next to K-102 FM. The wingnuts on talk radio are near bottom of the list, not far from defunct Air America Radio(KTNF AM). To suggest that KSTP is doing better than KTLK in the radio market is like saying that fifteen degress is warmer than minus thirty below zero. In any case, the GOP status in the entire radio industry is just plain stink. These guys have managed to dupe the American public in the last three decades over this sudden myth of the so-called “Liberal media,” generated by fear and power-grabbing special interests within the party’s base. And besides, if there was such a liberal media industry, then we would see women on TV much more respected and self-displined, rather than being protrayed as sex objects or sluts among men in general, or that movies would have less blood, less gore, and less sexual explitive content scenes. Consertaives on the other hand mede this happen because of industry deregulation, and now they want to blame the Dems and their liberal allies for the problems in our society.
That’s the trouble being define as the pot, who calls the kettle black all of the sudden.
Current ratings trend for all metro radio markets in the U.S.:

You mean like how liberals treat Michele Bachmann?
12:28 pm
You need look no further then the way liberals treat Michele to realize the false nature and obvious hypocrisy of their claims to be the party of tolerance, inclusiveness and equality.
The Party of the Jackass, for real.
2:26 pm
Pooooooooor MB! Wah!
Alas, the only job she’s qualified for is suicide bombing abortion clinics.
11:09 pm
You need look no further then the way liberals treat Michele to realize the false nature and obvious hypocrisy of their claims to be the party of tolerance, inclusiveness and equality.
Oh boo hoo! Republicans can’t take criticism during any election cycle, especially among their neo-nazi supporters running for office. Yet, go grab a hanky and watch “Titanic” you pathetic loser! Because the Dems are riding into town this year with the help of the swing voters.
9:20 am
But Michelle Bachman is so good looking!
I don’t get Wetterling. I keep hearing her in some debates saying “I called for President Bush” to do this or that. I’m thinking, she hasn’t been ELECTED to anything! Who is she to ‘call for’ the President to do something? Then I see some Wetterling TV spot and at the end of it she’s standing among some people & her sweater is pulled REAL tight and I could’ve swore I saw some nipplage! I did a double take. Then I saw the spot again and I swear she’s trying to show her high beams to get votes!
