Boutique Hotel in Uptown

but I’m curious to see how the stiletto crowd will mesh with bike messengers, frat boys, and a bustling Mickey D’s across the street.

Well, … chino latino. Enough said.

oh also, we’re not going to sign up for the real estate journal to read that article, thanks.

Seriously. There’s shills and then there’s shills.

While we’re on the topic of shills, I may as well get in my 2cents worth. I usually don’t wear stilettos, but I feel like I bridge your oversimplified uptown v. downtown demographics pretty well. The concept behind the new hotel is that if you look @ larger cities there are viable hotels in neighborhoods that don’t necessarily have a large corporate business base and are more residential (Lincoln Park Chicago) or adult playgroundish (Meat Packing NYC) come to mind. That, and Ben Graves’ commute time will be cut in half if he moves the corporate office to Uptown. With only 125 rooms, it will get great overflow when downtown has high pressure for rooms during the week…which has happened a ton of late…and it will kill on the weekends with weddings, tourists and folks who want a romantic spa getaway without having to leave town.

For perspective, here’s a fairly detailed guide to developments in Uptown during this decade. Some of it is welcome, other things are getting just a bit out of hand.

I wish more women wore stillettos.

But $15 cocktails I can do without.

We are SO cool here in Minnie-No-Place!

Thank God this is opening!

Another place I can frequent with having any chance of running into Bud Jr.

Something tells me you’re more likely to see bud jr @ the Elk River VFW. And we like it that way.

…or any dirty bar for that matter

The Rogers Muni is a pretty happenin’ place, too.

At least now my relaticks will have somewhere close to stay when they visit.

Um, it’s Mozaic. What the hell is a “Moziac”, anyway?

Can usually be found in the cool recesses of a cougar den.

I heard it’s being built on the site of the Lagoon and that the Lagoon (or some move theater) will be housed in the new hotel… but I haven’t heard where the Lagoon will be while the hotel is being built! I guess we’ll just lose all those screens for a year??? That stinks.

the lagoon will be rebuilt in its current location…and it will have a lobby so you don’t have to freeze your balls off in line.

Uptown’s only thriving biz is the Mac&Dons by day and the plethora of bar patrons at night. There are a LOT of vacant storefronts in Calhoun Square. If you want to meet a vast crowd of homeless and welfare folks then have breakfast at Mac&Dons. I do. I’m the ruggedly handsome bkfst eater usually seated with lovely gals. :)
