Ranking: Better Than Picking?

My ballot on the IRV referendum:

Yes: 1
No: 3
Maybe: 2

Am I supposed to know who Steve Cross is? If he’s the best they could do to generate some “opposition” quotes for that piece, I’m hopeful that this is a good sign for IRV passing (as opposed to a sign of a journalist worried about showing bias by not including “both sides” of the issue)

As I see it, the problem with the debate is that both sides are right. The elections will confuse many people, but these are really just the growing pains that any new system goes through, no matter how superior it is, and it’s doubtful that the outcome of most city races has any chance of being affected, anyway.

IRV will pass, and I’m excited at the prospect of making our city a laboratory for democratic reform. Minneapolis prides itself on being a forward-thinking city, and this will be another feather in our cap.

Here’s forward thinking for you … voter photo ID cards. heh.

mazasapa: anyone still stuck on that issue’s is probably still hunting for Saddam’s WMDs, too. I’d share some concern if there were any evidence of an election fraud problem, or any interest in the issue outside of wingnut ranks.

Why are the democrats so afraid of photo IDs? No really. We have to show a photo ID to cash a check. We have to show a photo ID to get on an airplane. We even have to show a photo ID to get a bleeping library card. Why oh why do the democrats resist the idea of having to show a photo ID to vote? I also like the purple ink on the finger idea. It removes the temptation to try to vote multiple times. The reason is simple. The democrats are scared shitless that if we had a system where people had to show a photo ID to cast a vote, they would never win another election. And just to prove I’m wrong, democrats should lead the efforts to install such a system.

Just pick somebody for christ’s sake just pick somebody!

The difference, they say is that everyone has a right to vote. Well, if it’s so damn important to a person they should get a damn photo ID. For proof of their fears, they don’t even accept giving people free photo ID cards. Why do you think they want to give illegal immigrants cheaper college?

Voting doesn’t matter in this country.

ID Cards are just Racists being Racist. Nothing new here.

Fact: The Right Wing OWNS Diebold.

The process is fucked.

Rigged.

Change will not come peacefully.

Some day a big rain will come and wash all the scum (Mazaspazza et. al.) off the streets.

Good point. I tell all my democrat friends that there’s no sense in even bothering to vote.

Explain how it’s racist to get a legal ID? It’s not even difficult, and it is a step to make sure legal voters are voting.

Oh wait, it’s racist because we don’t want illegal aliens voting in our elections! You are a genius Raindog!

I think it’s about time for a Raindog fallacy count! Anyone?

C’mon, guys — the photo ID requirement isn’t racist… or necessary.

This gun vote control crowd just wants to get between law-abiding citizens and their right to keep and bear arms vote. It’s already illegal to abuse that right, so why can’t we just enforce existing laws?

You have no friends that aren’t hateful racist right wing zealots Spazmati.

Who you trying to kid?

That had absolutely nothing to do with IRV, or even voting in general.

If the same absolutist foreign policy was applied back in the 60s, half the world’s surface would be nuked to oblivion.

Yeah, the commie half.

Sometimes you’re just pure self-parody.

Just funnin’ ya Max, just funnin’ ya.

Hey, have at the commies. I can’t see a whole lot of good they’ve brought to this world, and they’re responsible for more than their share of misery.
