I’m sneaking downstairs to watch our TV. I’m calling it “lunch.”

I heard other folks near me groan in unison, so I have a hunch they’re streaming some sort of game channel information on their computers, too. (I’m getting mine from mlb.com)

I’m monitoring the score somewhat just to gauge how quickly this season will just be over with, so I don’t have to hear about baseball again for a couple months.

There are about 6-7 people watching in one of our conference rooms. I keep sneaking off to watch.

The game is on in the waiting room at the clinic.

Boy, you northerners are very quiet during games. I don’t get it. I would expect to hear a bit more hollering. And what’s with the lulls after the games. How come you don’ drive around honking and screaming when we win? Must be something about the cold.

Anyone have any theories as to why we’d put in Crane to pitch to Thomas? Does he have good history against him or something b/c he definately would not have been my first choice as a reliever….especially with that f*cking ugly goatee….

Frank Thomas is a beast, stud. Righty vs. Righty behind a run. Choices are Rincon, Crain, Neshek, Nathan.

Nathan only pitches in save situations, Rincon has been shaky for a month, Crain’s been far better than Neshek lately. Hard to 2nd guess that move.

Let’s just hope Macha is dumb enough to pull Zito for his closer.

The Rat: quite simply, I won’t have to be feign interest with people who just assume I give two shits, because everyone else is on the Twins bandwagon.

Not that Raindog is interested in being polite, but if you’re stuck in a convo with some boring bandwagoner, I have some great points of discussion, including speculation about the fictitious/fraudulent “Dome Field Advantage”, the “I haven’t been watching lately, how has been doing?”, or “The Twins are baseball’s David, and they’re going to kill some Goliaths this season.” Avoid mentioning that the Twins’ rivalry with the White Sox was a bit of MLB head office kayfabe cooked up less than ten years ago, or that you can see pretty much the same game (but drink better beer and tailgate) at a Saints game.

Having the game on in the middle of the day brings up a question: Why is OK for people to blow off work to watch the game either in person or in the lunch room, but it would absolutely not be OK to blow it off to watch anything else? Or to watch a game not featuring a local sports team?
At my job, all the top execs are in the lunch room yelling and cheering, but I know if anyone else were doing that for any other event, they’d be told to stop so fast they wouldn’t know what hit them.
Just ruminating.

I’ve said this before, but if you think the Saints play the same game as the big boys, you are deluded.

I’m so sick of hearing people talk about the Twins that haven’t been to a game or paid any attention until last week. If you didn’t care in April or May, why do you care now?
Do all of us a favor, stay at work and get stuff done so we can go to the games.

And I saw people tailgating before today’s game. Sitting on actual tailgates and everything! Right in downtown Minneapolis! Brats on the grill!

It’s the playoffs. Lets open the door for everyone. Maybe today’s bandwagoner will be next year’s loyal fan.

The Twins lost because they always lose if I’m watching the game. And there wasn’t any way I could avoid watching this afternoon because the TV is pointed at my desk.

If you are blind and deaf the expereince is definitely better @ Midway because you don’t have to walk as far and you can feel the rumble of the train vibrating in your testicles. If you can see and hear and haven’t been lobotomized, shell out the extra few bucks to see the big boys @ the dome. Then again, I’m a booswha prick, so what do I know about baseball.

BTW, The Saints star hitter this year was Brian “Buck” Buchanan, whom the Twins traded to San Diego for a 5 gallon pail of David Sunflower Seeds and a rosin bag.

I’m open to new fans of the game, it’s just rough to hear people talk about the Twins like they know something and then have to ask who Phil Nevin is.

I don’t really see the point of complaining about people who don’t have the time to follow the team as closely as others. Case in point: I sort of follow along all season. I follow more closely when the Twins are doing well. I go to a few games (am going tomorrow). But, I sometimes get screwed up over the relief pitchers or the most recent trade. Does this make me a bandwagon fan? If it does, so be it. But, it doesn’t change my enjoyment of watching or listening to the game. And, I don’t understand why it changes yours.

Re: Saints v Twins…I’ve got nothing against having a pro team around, but if you make me take sides, I’m gonna have to go with the team that’s never hit me up for stadium money or shut down for a player strike.

I like Morneau as much as the next guy, but hey bandwagoneers, here’s something to think about next time you start chanting “MVP”: Derek Jeter went 5 for 5 in the Yankees’ first playoff game yesterday.

…which is all the more surprising, because his regular season stats were largely the benefit of the Yankees’ games against Tampa and Baltimore.

David Wells threw a perfect game with a hangover, and Don Larsen was allegedly still drunk when he pitched his WS perfect game in 1998. Those, however, can’t touch the story of Dock Ellis’ 1970 no hitter.

I know that. The point I was making was that, when it’s important, if I have to choose between Jeter and Justin, well, I’m taking Jeter. That’s the same Jeter, btw, who made the best defensive play I’ve ever seen in 50 years of watching baseball when he caught an errant throw from the outfield on the foul side of the first base line (what was he doing there?) and relayed it to home to save a playoff game.

Some of us noticed that Morneau was out of position on a relay yesterday, btw.

Tom, I think the Saints-versus-Twins debate comes down to a personal preference, if anything. You see a dramatic difference in the caliber of play, but I really don’t. Fielders still make relatively few errors, batters swing for the fences, and the fastballs still come at 90+ MPH. You can take it all seriously and watch a stuffy major league game, or recognize that with .200 dividing the best teams from the worst, baseball is as much a game of chance as it is skill, so you may as well get drunk and screw around with your friends in the bleachers if the team’s not hot that day.

I don’t hate the Yankees or view them as imperialists. But I would like to see the Tigers or the Twins wipe that perptual smirk off Jeter’s face.
