So, I believe in preparing for Halloween early. Besides, we’re supposed to be plenty haunted. (My favorite from the list, at the Landmark: ” Some say that a gangster who died on the premises still hangs around, sometimes impersonating an elevator operator.” Why would he do that?) More. And what of our City Hall? Yep, haunted. And the most haunted site in the Twin Cities? St. Paul’s Griggs Mansion, of course.

I’m all for the haunted MN tour. And the stories are damn cool. But it’s October. I want some good examples of haunted houses. All the ones I’ve been to in the MSP have been disappointments. Anyone have some solid recommendations? Does the Hopkins JCCs put on a solid show?
11:32 am
I bet there A LOT of scary things in Mark Kennedy’s closet.
That dude has the glazed eyed look of a serial killer.
11:38 am
seriously, chill
not everything is about politics, ok? you’re getting as bad as republicans who turn every innocuous thing in the media into some kind of “MORAL DEGREDATION/SUPPORT FOR GAYS/WHATEVER” debate. Just fucking chill already.
11:51 am
tmay…the general consensus is that were going to ignore the cunt from now on.
11:52 am
God you guys are pussies. Seriously.
11:52 am
I bet those old mental hospitals have a lot of restless old souls. Does anyone know if Ghost Hunters has ever filmed in Mpls or St. Paul?
11:54 am
I just think until some does something about this I’m just going to leave. It’s not entertaining to see someone’s mental illness thrust into your face over and over. It makes me sad. I would encourage others to just find someplace else to spend time on the internet.
It’s sad but the conversations at anti-strib are actually more logical and reasoned even if you don’t agree with them.
11:59 am
Oh Simp! You are too easy.
I have to go take a bath. All your talk of the thrusting in your face – over and over- has got me all a twitter!
Lighten up dude. It’s only the interweb.
12:07 pm
Can we collectively agree to not discuss politics unless the thread absolutely demands it. Even I am getting sick of the discussion. It’s like this site has gotten completely hijacked by screeds, jeremiads, and phillipics, when it should get hijacked by sex.Or something else that’s fun to talk about.
Sex, mostly, though.
12:14 pm
it’s like that simpsons episode where homer’s mom shows up after being on the lam for 20 years. lisa and his mom are having a nice discussion, and homer’s in the backgroung doing cartwheels, yelling “hey mom, look at me, look at me!!”
raindog is doing cartwheels while the adults are trying to talk.
12:21 pm
There is not such thing as ghosts.
12:24 pm
Then how do you explain this?
12:26 pm
That scared the shit out of me! I’m here alone. Don’t like that
12:27 pm
Compubox once again speaks from personal experience.
Were you the middle child, child?
12:28 pm
Hee.
12:28 pm
So, uhh…What about those haunted houses? Has anyone heard about any new ones this year? Does anything compare to the now-dead Tunnel of Terror? Can someone provide a list?? Uh, HAUNTED HOUSES? That’s what we’re talking about, right? Tell me more.
12:31 pm
Scared the shit out of me, too, msparber.
But, Rat, you’re so so wrong.
12:38 pm
That scared the shit out of me! I’m here alone. Don’t like that
are you really there alone?
12:42 pm
I’ve been inside the Griggs Mansion. The mirrors are so old, they are cloudy around the edges. It definitely adds to the mystique.
12:53 pm
Dulcina: I’ll beleive there are ghosts when one walks out of their haunted house, stops traffic and belts a cop.
1:01 pm
So you deny the authenticity of the famous Spook Bobby Gobsmack photo taken in Bristol in 1982?
1:09 pm
Well then.. I win, Rat. It has already happened. …almost…
Maybe you need a little ghost expedition.
1:21 pm
Max, I hate cheap jolts like that, even when I know they’re coming. It’s the same tactic used (invariably by black people) on bike riders in “mixed” neighborhoods. First they get a dirty look, then the finger.
Let’s talk about race, not politics or sex!

There is rumoured to be a ghost at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The guards have some stories. (Perhaps a future MN Stories video…) There’s also a specific painting rumoured to be haunted, here’s what Lorika says:
The “haunted” painting is “Mrs. T. in Cream Silk No. 2” by George Bellows painted in 1920. (I just looked – she’s right outside my door practically.) And I would like to reiterate that I don’t believe the stories I have heard about this one, nor do I believe a painting can be “haunted”. Perhaps a ghost can be attached to a painting, but the painting itself moving or the figures inside coming to life, I just don’t believe. You may quote me – thank you.
1:36 pm
Well, she may not be haunted, but she’s certainly one creepy lady.
1:37 pm
My HS auditorium has always been under the speculation of hosting a spectre for decades. This could be a double exposure, but creepy none the less. *You’ll have to scroll down the page a bit, but you’ll see what I mean*
1:40 pm
I’m a big fan of the Haunted House in the caves. Now, granted most haunted houses aren’t truly scary to me, but the sets are wicked and they change them every year. Plus the cave smell adds to it and the mini donuts outside rawk.
1:45 pm
she is totally creepy.
also, my curtains are haunted.
taulpaul: yeah, looks like a double exposure but it really has a creepy nostalgic feeling. mmm, yummy.
1:51 pm
Dig the curtains, chuckie. I wanna go shower with HER!
2:01 pm
Chuck:
Here is a quote from a forum about those auditorium pics:
“The school yearbook B&W photo is actually one of the original 6-of-50 ghost photos captured by Mr. Perry. The rectangle in the top-right that you see in the B&W photo is really part of an overlapping photo of the school’s hallway that appears on the same page in the yearbook.
As far as I know, though possible to be double-exposures, the 6 photos are untouched scans of the original Polaroid photos taken by Mr. Perry- a medium that is nearly impossible to get a double exposure because the photo self-develops as soon as it is taken. “
2:05 pm
There are actually ways to double-expose a polaroid. I used to do it all the time.. for kicks. Great photos, though. Depends on the actual device.
2:09 pm
They are in that “too good to be true” category D.
2:13 pm
As am I, taulpaul.
2:41 pm
Hey D. Do you happen to know a guy who goes by the name Q?
2:43 pm
Urgh! Talk about haunted! I’m outta here.
2:55 pm
Weird. I have a roommate named Q.
2:56 pm
Um, did I say something wrong? Yeah Sam, he’s doing some work for us, and I thought he mentioned a Dulcinea the other day. Is he a good roomie?
3:00 pm
To be perfectly frank, I think he’s eating my food.
3:03 pm
Helooooo. I had a topic here. Unless this Q guy is a ghost, can we get backto talking about haunted Minneapolis.
Or “hainted,” as Stachmo used to say.
3:07 pm
I am NOT eating your food!
(But if I were you I would get a new toothbrush!)
3:08 pm
I had a strange occurance the other night. I smelled a strong odor of burbon in the house, and some footsteps downstairs. Then I heard a voice downstairs murmering about “nitwits“.
3:10 pm
I had some oranges this morning. Unless ths apartment is haunted, somebody ate them.
3:13 pm
taulpaul… run for your friggin life!
(i recently decided Vlog Santa #2 is my favorite.)
((he’ll be back before long. oh yes, he’ll be back.))
3:21 pm
Get outta my space, poo-hole!
7:39 pm
The forepaughs resturant is also haunted. the ghost hangs out on the third floor, where it blows out candles, dims the lights, moves silver wear etc. Oh forgot to say the Forepaughs resturant is in an old mansion is the capital city – you know St. Paul
