I couldn’t believe that either, Steve “Seger” Marsh is only 30? And didn’t he say that he likes to go to shows at clubs with his dates, presumably to shout in their ears for for a couple of hours. What a Romeo.

Anyway, regarding the Twins, they better get ready to spend some serious money on those guys. That’s right, Pohlad will have to shoo away the moths that fly out of his checkbook on those rare occassions he opens it. Otherwise, the Yankees, BoSox and others will surely come calling and the money will be too good turn down. I mean, really, would you rather play for the Yankees or the Twins?

Let’s not forget that we’re coming into a new era in Twin’s baseball. The never-ending excuses about lost revenue in re the Dome will be gone, and whomever owns the team @ negotiating time will be facing some serious heat to spend on a winner. The first test of this theory will more likely be what they do about Torii Hunter this winter. My guess is that he’s gone to make way for M&M’s salaries.

They should trade Hunter immediately. He’s overpayed as it is given that he still hasn’t learned the strike zone yet.

Before I get this off my chest, I just want to state that I consider myself a liberal Democrat. Maybe I’m a closeted bigot, maybe I’m a lot of things…the bottom line is I’m upset and wish someone would do something about the situation in North Minneapolis.

The fact that Rybak & his people scattered when confronted at a press conference is only half of the problem. Grow some balls, RT. Quit pandering to your soft-core constituents and fix the fookin problem, or get the hell out of office and let someone with a backbone take over.

And for Al Flowers I say if the shoe fits, wear it. Who does this guy represent, the gangs? Sure he’s pissed, and he has every right to be….I would be too if I was raising my kids in a fookin War Zone. He can call it racial profiling if he must, but I call it identifying criminals & dealing with the gang problem. Mr. Flowers is living in a goddamned war zone and needs to understand that ensuring public safety occassionally comes at the high cost of temporarily sacrificing personal liberties. How does he suggest fixing the problem? Bookmobiles & community swimming pools?

I saw these same racial politics divide Detroit for my 30 years there and it makes me sick to my stomach that anger on one side and political correctness on the other keep any constructive dialogue from occurring…the shell of Detroit that remains is Governed by and for African Americans, including the Most Corrupt Mayor in America…good on them, over the course of 40 years they drove out the evil white oppressors and their prosperity, and now they can enjoy the rotting fruits of their labors.

I can’t imagine that Hunter will be around last year. With all the young guys in the outfield playing pretty solid I can’t imagine then resigning Hunter especially now that he’s old and starting to spend more time on the DL.

I really hope they don’t stray too far from the way they are running the team now. I don’t think bringing in $10 million dollar free agents is really the way to be successful over the long term. I do hope they try to sign the players that are successful like M&M, but they have in the past paid their best players to keep them (Radke, Hunter) and the ones they have let go (Hawkins, Walker, Eddie G) have not done well elsewhere.

Second that on Hunter, BrianP. They can get someone for a lot less who will swing at sliders in the dirt and fastballs over his head.

The reality is that sometimes ya gotta pay big money for a slugger. The fact that it took so long for a guy to get 30 homers is instructive on that point.

The Dome, as evidenced the last time Boston played here, is Kryptonite for Ortiz…he had to head to greener pastures.

Times & salaries have changed, but Reggie Jackson used to say that “singles hitters drive Toyotas and home run hitters drive Cadillacs.” I realize that now all pro atheletes drive Escalades, Bentleys, & H2s, but you get the idea.

I’m guessing Steve Marsh has a very small car.

I guess when I say slugger, I’m more referring to a top-tier hitter in general. Sure homeruns, but also discipline at the plate and lots of RBIs.

Nobody. They go see whatever Marsh has comp tickets for.

Al Flowers comes to every single crime meeting in the city and makes a lot of noise. I admire his passion. But his methods leave a bit to be desired.

Just a few thoughts on the North Side.

I am a North side resident and I personally welcome this effort by police. If these gangs are causing significant problems, some additional attention probably needs to be given to these individuals. Not to say focus should only remain on those gangs, because others are most likely waiting in the wings to take over.

I wonder if these people are upset because the guv leaders specifically named the gangs they are going after?
What if they had announced they were focusing on gangs in general and not named names? What if they had formed a Gang Task Force (TM), like the area once had–and could benefit from again?
Would there have been so much negative feedback?

I truly believe racial profiling does happen. But, I feel some of these people are crying “victim” before it’s warranted. Give the police a chance. Has it gotten so out of hand already? I am not being sarcastic, I am honestly wondering if it’s much worse than I realize.
My possible (naive) solution: It would be great if the city made an effort to diversify it’s force. The majority of police I have seen in my neighborhood have been white male. And I have seen a lot of police.
Would that help ease the minds of our community leaders? Would it improve “on-the-scene” relations?
I don’t know.

On a related note, what happened to that Mobile unit we saw so much of last summer/fall? I thought (at least in reading reports) it was making a positive difference. Looks like it came out for the press conference, but where has it been so far?

This is a total side note, but as I sit idle on 35 near Pine City, I notice that Minnesotans still can’t merge, even with big orange signs saying “use both lanes, take turns merging”.

Also, my fiancee got trapped by a trooper just before the slowdown. He was quite concerned with her slightly-above-Dimler speed, but didn’t give two shits about the train of cars going around it by driving on the shoulder.
