Pick a team captain and have him/her email Matt Bartel at mnspeak@gmail.com with the subject line “MNspeak Pub Quiz” to register a team. No need to submit players names with registration. Just make sure no one is on more than one team. You don’t have to have a team name now, either. I just need to know how many teams we’ll have. Please register by August 1.

I mentioned earlier that proceeds after costs were going to a charity, but I figured out that there won’t be any proceeds after costs, so never mind. I suppose we can all pick a charity and donate on our own.
9:20 am
I offer my knowledge to the highest bidder.
9:27 am
Sell yourself on eBay
11:13 am
Oh, man. 6:30pm. I’m gonna have to put my old paper to bed a little early this week, or show up a little late.
11:32 am
Just a tip, but the best player in town is probably Neal Justin at the Strib. He knows everything about pop culture. It’s as if he gets paid to watch tv.
11:42 am
This contest will be rife with ringers.
11:51 am
Kieran Folliard himself is also pretty damn good.
1:34 pm
There should be an award for the person who knows the least about this alleged culture. That person would indeed be admirable.
1:56 pm
If I weren’t in rehearsal for a show that opens the very next night, I’d be there.
sigh.
2:10 pm
Wait – why am I sighing?! – Thursday is opening night of THE MINNESOTA FRINGE FESTIVAL! Frankly, it’s one of the two reasons I stayed in the Twin Cities after college graduation. And it’s been worth every year.
2:20 pm
It starts on Thursday.
Uh-oh. Betetr talk to Matt about my audioblog.
2:23 pm
Neal Justin is in L.A and Kieran Folliard is in Dublin town…so now the field is as wide open as a senate race in Alabama city….
5:07 pm
What about your Audioblog?
5:23 pm
Matt, for those of us who are interested in playing but don’t know anyone else on the site, will you be able to match us up with teams?
5:25 pm
I’ll share so Max doesn’t have to feel weird about self-promotion! Max has been asked to join The League of Extraordinary Fringers (the MN Fringe Festival bloggers) as an audioblogger this year. We’ll get to hear his deepest thoughts in his deepest voice. Awssem.
5:27 pm
I was wondering about that, too. I don’t think we’ll need to match people up ahead of time. Just come on down and we’ll put all the individual folks together or fill in some teams that are short.
5:30 pm
Here it comes… the first place team will get… drum roll…
Free tickets to see Wu-Tang Clan with with I-Self Devine at First Ave on Friday, August 11.
5:33 pm
Nice, Matt…did a 1st Avenue intern just drop a pile of those on your desk?
7:06 pm
Leah, you don’t need that rehearsal. If you ain’t got it by the night before…
9:03 pm
My team will consist of myself and Ken Jennings. He’s very excited…apparently he agrees that “Wu Tang Clan ain’t nothing to fuck with.”…though he does miss the ODB.
10:47 pm
HA! Thanks for your confidence, Tom. We’ll see if I actually deserve it…
9:27 am
So each team pays $10 for a chance to win comp tickets?
And there is no money left over for Charity?
Why on earth would you do this when there are multitudes of places with trivia where you can win actual real prizes and not pay any entry fee?
John Cosgrove is an extremely nice guy thou!
9:47 am
Hey, I actually know a decent amount about local history even though I’m new here. I make a it a point to learn about such things whenever I live somewhere, so … uh, pick me?
12:18 pm
When I moved here I took a “History of the Twin Cities” course @ Metro State on a whim. Turned out to be quite informative, especially in understanding why there are 2 (well, 1 & 1/2, anyways) downtowns.
12:52 pm
I think I will just go to the bar, sit in the corner, and watch.
1:45 pm
Romantic evening with Katherine Kersten?!
12:41 pm
Do we have a count on registered teams?

4:58 pm
Not counting on registered teams. I just wanted to have some idea of how many people we’re going to have.
The $10 isn’t for the first ave. tickets. It’s to pay the very funny Mr. Cosgrove. You’re right, you can go lots of other places for trivia. If $2 per person seems steep for trivia, think of it as a cover charge for the auxiliary entertainment coming from having all the mnspeakers in the same place.
8:19 pm
Second that. Cosgrove provides actual entertainment, instead of just someone reading out of a Jeopardy trivia book they just picked up at Barnes and Noble. I’ve been to several pub quizzes in town. No comparison.
8:59 am
That seems fair although comp tickets are a rinky dink prize. Couldn’t we get a years subscription to Mpls/StP?
Any drink specials? I mean you are dragging 20-60 extra people to a bar that would not normally be there and drinks at Irish Bars tend to be extremely expensive.
7:04 pm
I’ll be there.
1:58 pm
Not going.
2:43 pm
Sorry, Tmayhem.
Feel free to rip on Kevin now.
6:31 pm
Sounds like a blast, wish I could be there.
12:04 am
We had a grand ol’ time. More details tomorrow.
8:07 am
It was a grand old time indeed, Matt. Here’s the link to the electric car story you asked about:
