If you want to see how a skyway should be done, head to Des Moines. You can get just about anywhere in Downtown Des Moines via skyway. Here, it is much more hit and miss…

tear down the skyways, tear them all down. the destroy street life on the sidewalk.

Why does the street need to be full of life when it is full of traffic? Plus, the skyways get rather busy. I'd rather have pedestrian traffic separate from car/bus/train traffic simply for safety's sake. Plus, walking the skyway allows me to get from place to place much quicker.

Anybody who comes back with the retort that "skyways are barren" should think about Town Square in St Paul and IDS Center in Minneapolis before saying anything so ridiculous. Cities that don't have skyways have their busier and less busy areas.

Plus the skyways have been good for the cities. And you have to remember that when they were first starting to build skyways in Minneapolis and St Paul, it was to compete against malls in the suburbs. So think of them as an anti-sprawl measure.
