Hasta La Vista, Tiburon

Last time I heard it was going to have a location at that development in Saint Paul called the Bridges of Saint Paul.

What happened to the fish in the aquarium? :(

I was wondering that too! I tried to peek through the closed wood blinds trying to see if the aquarium was still in there!

Maybe it was due to their horrible service and incredibly over-priced menu.

Just a thought…

Agreed Raindog. I had fish tacos there once which were very tasty.. but I seem to remember them costing around $18.

I did like the fishies though.

I meant the fishies in the tank, not the fishies in the taco. Well, actually, I liked the fishies in the taco too. But that’s not what I was talking about.

I have nothing to add but an echo of the comments sandwiched between this one and the first.

Maybe the fishies in the tank ended up in someone’s taco…?

I’m frankly surprised it took this long to close. I went twice and found the service painfully slow and the menu horribly overpriced. Is two visits enough to form an informed opinion? YMMV but it was enough to keep me from going back.

I work in that building…the story is that Tiburon couldn’t pay their rent and hadn’t paid their rent in a while, so they got evicted. They didn’t tell the staff until their last day, which was a Saturday a week or two ago.

Oh, and the landlords took possession of everything in the restaurant (alcohol, tables, linens, equipment, etc). I don’t know what that means for the fish tank though…

The Bridges of St. Paul is the one of th worst developments ideas in recent memory. Hey, let’s build a monstrosity that looks like a 1980’s Vegas Marriot, plop it across the river from downtown St. Paul!

I never got to Tiburon.

Thanks for the scoop Josie!

Those fish from the tank would probably taste just fine in a taco. Cook ‘em up! :)

Yeah, thanks Josie for clearing that up. Very shady of them to not let their workers know what was going on.

I never heard great things about the food, but you can’t fault a bar on the first floor of your office building.

Now we actually have to walk outside to get to happy hour. Buzzkill.

The cocktails were good and the prices on the food in the bar were reasonable. You could get a nice chicken sandwich with yam fries for like $5 or $8 bucks, something like that.

I loved Tiburon. Never got a chance to eat an actual meal in the restaurant but I always ate in the bar area and it had one of the best and most frequent happy hours in town. The food was unique and quality. They had a fried grouper sandwich with those fancy yam fries for $8. It was a unique and well-designed space. Granted, reflecting I seem to agree the service was sometimes very slow but the staff was always friendly. It was a far cry from your typical bar/restaurant in a town I feel consumed by average, run of the mill places to go. I know many people sad to see it close, for whatever reason.

Yes, my sweetness girlfriendest Anne will miss the cake, the raw chocolate crabs, the sea breezes, the oceanianic tile in the bathrooms, the flat screen tvs, and the fishies, one of which she named “Mr Grumpy Pants.” Adiu, Mr. Grumpy Pants, we shall miss thee.

The new tagline for Tiburon is “Tiburon; Permanently washing the floors.”

I have a gift certificate for Tiburon, does anyone know if there is a sister restuarant where I can still use it?
Thanks

I worked at the restaurant, we were told one night that we wouldn’t be coming back and we had been evicted. As for the inventory the food was mostly eaten and there was hardly any alcohol in the place anyway. Unfortunately there is no “sister store” Or I’d have a job. THx Josie for the kind words. I can assure you much of the staff is wondering what happened and where the final paychecks went.

That’s despicable. I doubt the employers were surprised to be closing. Talk about an expression of total contempt for your employees.
