With a title like Hot Art Injection, do I need a more catchy headline? Tomorrow night the Soap Factory opens a show of teen art with that name, curated by the Walker’s teen art council. From installations made from Cub Foods bags to a table constructed out of toast to a painterly depiction of Kurt Cobain as a ventriloquist, there’s some remarkable work here. But–to move beyond merely a promotional plug–if this show showcases tomorrow’s artists, what’s the prognosis for contemporary art’s future?

There’s a lot high schol art in there–some drawings and paintings that are well within the “art class art” classification–but there’s also some impressive work. Third page in there’s a set of emaciated bronze hands that’s stellar, and the bag-art installation you mention (made from those flimsy plastic shopping bags that whirl around in the wind) is a wry commentary on… something. I’ll be there.
