Music For White Belters

Great headline on that article. Never cared for the Replacements.

Thanks for hte link, Dave. Cool interview. I am looking forward to the Jim Walsh book.

I don’t think the typical white-belt-clad hipster would have much interest in the Replacements. They’re too well known to be worth namedropping.

Finally, boooooooo to the NYTimes for citing a P’fork review.

Last weeks issue of Newsweek also had a brief (and pretty funny) interview with Westerberg.

This just really makes me want to toss on a nice flannel shirt, my old Doc Marten’s and head down to the CCClub for a pitcher of Premium and throw a buck into the Juke Box and dial up Black Diamond well then maybe some Rev Horton Heat’s 400 Bucks. If I could squeeze in a game of Addams Family pinball that would complete the experience.

Addams Family pinball, j t’aime.

As a total ‘mats fanatic, I don’t think they’d appeal at all to the hipsters. The ‘mats lyrcis are too accessible, and they really didn’t give a shit about status or image or fashion.

Tom Bartel must hate David Carr. Anyone know?

Any reason you’d think that, just guessing? Because he once worked for a competitor? Because he used to beat City Pages on some good stories? Or do you think you should have signed your comment “I’m completely full of shit “?

Another brave libel from an anonymous poster.

Some of today’s hipsters probably don’t get the Replacements. They weren’t pretentious enough. Goddamn, they were great. “Stink,” “Hootenanny” & “Let It Be” still deliver the goosebumps to this day.

What “today’s hipsters” don’t get is why “yesterday’s hipsters” refuse to let go of the past. Don’t you have neighborhood kids to chase off your lawn?

Yesterday’s Hipsters don’t have lawns, they have sweet condos in the city, duh!

My Minneapolis condo has a lawn. And it’s flippin’ sweet!

Bartel – thin skin? I’d expect a guy like you to care very little about what anonymous gossipers have to say…and btw, it’s really okay for people to post anonymously – if you don’t like it, change the policy.

Ah, the Replacements. I distinctly recall riding my ten-speed to the Burnsville Center and pedaling home with by brand new album “Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash” under my arm. I remember loving the song “Johnny’s Gonna Die.” But goddamn that was a long time ago. Will I buy the new compilation? No. They were a great band, but they’re long gone. Maybe it’s cool, though, that some kids today can check ‘em out and find out what all the fuss was/is about.
