MNspeak 2.1

Btw, the reason I’m not just switching over the whole thing at once is that I want to avoid breaking everything. Hopefully, I’ll just break a few things temporarily.

Maybe there should be a category “events” for people who want to find something fun to do quickly, without having to search through “film” “art” “culture” and so forth. Though maybe there already is an events category, and I just didn’t spot it. I like your site a lot. I visit it everyday to check what’s new.

Laura,
There are some posts about events, but mostly it stays in the “Tonight’s Play” section under the comments.

I sure hope your redesign plan includes destroying that terrible MNspeak font in your header. It is obnoxiously gimmicky and, not to mention, hard to read.

font suggestions welcome

I like the new layout, but the ad @ right is a little obnoxious. Any chance of switching that with “Tonight’s Play”?

While I’m at it, speaking of the Tonight’s Play section…the thing I’ve been most disappointed with since Rex left is the lack of attention that has been paid to this section. One of my favorite things about this site was being able to pop on here early and see what was recommended for each night that week. Now we’re lucky to have it filled out a day in advance.

Don’t mistake this for a personal slam, because it’s not at all, I just wanted to point out something I’d noticed.

You don’t have to read it, it’s a logo.

Don’t think so. That’s the space I promised the advertisers. There will also be another one between today’s and yesterday’s talk.

Welcome back, Matt.

I’m on a roll this morning.

I’m really digging the new layout a lot. I’m OK with the ad too after seeing it a few times.

I have an off the wall idea…do you think maybe you could switch up the pixel background? Maybe randomize it like the header?

Agreed.

You guys are absolutely right. I’ve been slacking and I don’t have any excuses other than that. I’ll go fill out the rest of the week right now…

Btw, i actually graduated on Saturday, so I really have no excuses now. Except for the sun is in my eyes and I think I hear my mother calling.

Congrats on the graduation.

Thanks dude. The diploma was signed and everything.

graduated from where?

Bigger ads! BIGGER! YES! Can you make the advertisements interactive? Sound and clicky things? DO IT!

I was thinking of treating all the ads like posts and enabling commenting. (I suppose the advertisers would want to ok that first, though.)

Lovin’ it. I too really love the idea of making the ads commentable. Nice to have you back, Matt.

Congrats on your graduation! What are you going to do now (besides the site)?

I’m working on another online project with some friends of mine. It’s still top secret, but if anyone knows any good web designers/developers, tell them to email me.

I third the “tonights play” issue. It’s one of the most important, most neglected areas of the site. I’ve heard complaints about this from “real people (offline)” as well.

is there some way of looking up a poster without having to backtrack and find their last post???

Would like to see a few fresh 7 Questions subjects — the three that have been up there now for months are a little too AARP, no?

After playing with this for a day, I wonder if it might be worthwhile to flip the first two columns. The new layout makes the talk section fairly small, especially as you scroll down the page where there’s nothing in the first column.

And where’s the FAQ?

I like the new layout (especially the topic break-down on the left) – but haven’t had much time to explore further. Don’t mind the static ads on the front page, but hate, HATE the moving, flashing ones. That should be a no-no.

Good work, team.

Agree…that Body Worlds ad is awful. The Walker ad looks great. They could have at least used a hi-res picture in the Body Worlds ad.

Oh, how I love you Mozilla FlashBlock.

this is an outrage!

I don’t know…I would prefer to see the posts be on the top left and the categories somewhere else. A look kind of like the aggregator I think would be better.

This is a content suggestion, rather than format.

Could you do some 7QQ interviews with local decision makers, maybe non-elected people like the planning MPLS commission or State Arts Board members or something?

I love the cultrual and small business people too though.

Just more 7QQ overall!
