The only thing odd about the Fargo urban legend is how terribly the writer on Snopes got the plots of both Fargo and O Brother! wrong in pertaining to the actual treasure.
In O’ the George Clooney character made up the story about the treasure so he could get the other guys to cooperate with him trying to get back to his Ex-wife before the area was flooded.
In Fargo, the Stevie B character discovers there is way more money in the brief case than he was told there would be by Mr Lundegard. So he stashes the extra cash so he doesn’t have to share it with a German Nihlist of VW car spokesperson.
