Driving, You Crazy?

Knowledge means absolutely nothing.

Just because a driver KNOWS he has to signal every lane change, doesn’t mean he/she actually will do it.

I think knowledge means there more of a likelihood that someone will obey the traffic rules, though.

I disagree.

I think a lot of people know what they’re supposed to be doing while driving, but are too distracted/not bothered to care about actually doing it.

Obviously NOT knowing the rules of the road is a bad thing, but knowledge of traffic laws does not make one a good driver.

Like I always say, our licensing system should include more training on DRIVING and a rigorous DRIVING test, instead of merely testing one’s ability to obey traffic laws.

I didn’t say knowledge of the rules made a person a good driver. I think it just makes a person more likely to be a good driver.

I’m going on record saying that whomever accepted my post altered the grammar in the headline, hence wrecking my amazing cleverness. It was supposed to be:

Driving, You Crazy?

Yep, it’s completely settled now. We can now rest, knowing we are definitively and forevermore in the the second quintile of drivers, on a statewide basis. This reasonable performance (but not too good, cockiness is un-Minnesotan) is just another measure proving that we live in the greatest place on earth, objectively speaking. ;-)

The thing that scares me — if we’re 11th, can you imagine what the REALLY bad states are like!?

It ought to be good enough for anyone.

“..can you imagine what the REALLY bad states are like!?”

I lived in Florida. The Angriest State in the Union. People obeyed driving rules from their country of origin.

btw, as long as we’re talking grammar, it’s “whoever”.

and, for some reason, the headlines don’t pass through punctuation, quotes, etc., very well. We’ll fix it.

Now THAT’s service.

(Though… I really wasn’t intending for someone to have to fix it. I was just sayin’.)

Funny story. Couple years ago, I was reading the Lonely Planet guide to Puerto Rico. They had a thing about driving in San Juan which was like: “San Juan drivers are notoriously bad. Not as bad drivers in cities like Mombay, Rome, or Boston, but…”

Holy shit, did they ask ‘em what the left lane is for?

In Minnesota, the correct answer would be “the left lane is where all the cool kids hang out.”

Knowledge-shmow-ledge. Driving is about common sense.

I mean, unless you are operating inside the vortex of bad-driver-hell, aka University Ave in St. Paul….
