What new features would you like to see Matt add to MNSpeak? Wizbang AJAX action? Facebook/MySpace style profiles for DeRusha’s stalking pleasure? Or maybe just the ability to fetch you a double-shot non-fat latte.

- What New Features Would You Like to See?

5:37 pm
I’m sure I’ll get flak again for not posting links. Damn.
5:39 pm
psh. who needs links?
5:40 pm
One idea I had was allowing people to submit links to the daily links (without having to email them to me). The links would then be a different kind of post that would change throughout the day.
5:47 pm
How about comments that automagically refresh in the style of digg spy.
5:48 pm
Most Critical: Getting rid of the creepy sexpo logo
5:59 pm
Cookies that would allow you to see which threads have comments you haven’t seen.
Mmmmm…delicious cookies.
6:00 pm
I don’t want people hijacking the daily links. Leave one person in charge.
6:02 pm
There you go, advocating for executive power again. When will the insanity stop?
6:33 pm
Numbered comments!
Oh – and a search function that works for finding comments as well as posts… right now I think it only locates matches in posts. But I might also be smoking crack.
6:49 pm
The ability to put photos in front page posts. The ability to preview our posts before submitting. A spell-check feature.
6:53 pm
Simple change:
Implement the preview window for post submission and calendar comments.
7:09 pm
Was that non-fat latte thing a joke? Because I think there are few things better than having a man fetch your morning coffee.
I’d like to second the spell-check request, since I am a very good speller and a wildly inaccurate typist. But honestly, the comment preview feature usually lets me catch my errors.
7:18 pm
No spell check. It would cut down on the hilarity.
7:21 pm
In Safari, Control-click (or right click) to “Spelling” and select “Check Spelling as You Type.” Yay. Now every website I post to has spell check… at least for me.

7:36 pm
A white belt gallery. Here’s my submission:
8:02 pm
Ability to set personal preferences…like displaying comments as ascending or decending. I am not a fan of scrolling (call it laziness)
I don’t always have time to read entry comment trails…
…maybe I’m just not as dedicated as I should be.
8:07 pm
I’ve never seen any pictures in the posts. Is this a MNSpeak philosophy? Autosizing could be used to keep the pictures to a specific format…
8:57 pm
I’d like Facebook/MySpace style profiles for my stalking pleasure.
9:06 pm
This will probably be an unpopular opinion for which I will get pilloried and lambasted, but…
…compulsory registration to post??
I dunno — I run a message board, and we have compulsory registration, and I find there’s about 200% less flaming, fighting, and rude behavior when people have to stand behind their registered name with every comment they make.
But that’s most likely crazy talk!
9:10 pm
jonny: That’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard!
9:26 pm
In all seriousness, I’d like to see numbered posts as well. And a cookie with “_ new comments” since I last viewed. And I’d like free coffee. And I want a preview pane on the posting page.
I like the idea of an organic links section… but I’d like to see that in addition to the “Misc. Daily links” section. I do like that this site has an editorial voice. Perhaps a “hottest topic now” window… where you could see the post that’s hopping.
I’d also like a FAQ link somewhere on the main page.
9:36 pm
You already need to be registered to post.
9:45 pm
The place seems to work. When you feel the urge to tweak, like down until it goes away.
If it’s not broken don’t fix it.
10:05 pm
I’m in favor of constant small improvements. “If it’s broke don’t fix it” has always just sounded lazy to me.
10:11 pm
No photos in submissions, ban photos in posts. Leave the look of the site the same. There are good user-friendly suggestions here like the ability to reverse teh order of postings and spell check or more personal preference settings. But don’t go screwing with the site as a whole. It’s fine.
10:28 pm
I’d like to see you implement some AJAX action when you add a comment instead of being redirected to the “yo” page.
11:34 pm
I don’t know, turn the agragator into a scrolling ticker, news network style….
Thats a throw away idea.
What I was really going to suggest is suplemental Google Earth KMZ placemarks so we can see where the news is happening.
For instance, OPEN THIS IN G.E, if you’ve got it like that. . . homies
And heres another if you’re pillow fighting saturday.
12:07 am
Oh hey, heres the thread for that if you feel like contributing.
Looks like I invented a cool new feature.
Peace.
12:12 am
p.s
SOMEONE, pay me to do this all day and I will gladly accept.
9:05 am
revive babelogue.
i’d love to see searchable twin cities/MN blogs.
and sortable
[most recently updated, et al]
how come babelogue never got there?
9:11 am
I’ll take the latte.
9:25 am
I think an organic links section would be of interest. It works well at Newstoday.
Since there’s already a lot of talk about local goods and services, I think a user-submitted directory might be kind of useful (kind of like the calendar).
10:06 am
No latte, but if you could get McDonalds to bring back the Double Filet-O-Fish, that’d be spiffy.
10:17 am
I want a BK “Whaler” and I want it now!
10:40 am
If I didn’t have to re-login every couple of days, that would be awesome. I consistently have problems with MNspeak and the Google personal homepage forgetting who I am, unlike any other site’s cookies.
11:19 am
A Bud Jr webcam?
11:34 am
How about a “Where’s Wayne” feature, like “Where’s Waldo” of yesteryear, but with me hiding in various locations around town?
11:36 am
SOMEONE, pay me to do this all day and I will gladly accept
I can’t imagine the salary would be very high for someone to find shit on Google Earth all day.
-Aaron
11:41 am
They pay me a decent wage to sit here and do nothing I would think finding stuff on Google Earth would potentially add something to the bottom line.
Hey I did run a data upload this morning that consists of starting a program and then clicking on a link. In fact it didn’t work so I haven’t actually even done that yet.
11:52 am
I both envy and feel sorry for you, Simpleton.
11:53 am
You should mostly feel sorry for me!
It wouldn’t be bad but this is how it has been for over a week now!
And I don’t really see anything happening soon.
I really wonder how they sold this to upper management.
“We really need someone to post comments on MNspeak and do Sudoku’s all day long”
I wish I had been in that meeting!
12:22 pm
I’m so frustrated that I can’t find a better white belt pic than Max’s. Oh, and btw, Waldo’s right here, sans the stripped shirt.
1:03 pm
Not much of an imagination there Aaron?
Location based intell is a huge industry.
Oh well, one mans shit is another mans 7 billion dollar company.
chow
1:07 pm
More SPAM! Oh wait, that would be bad… I would like to see that spel cheker ting hapen. A “new post” thing would be cool too (for those of us that can’t remember numbers.) However, I’ll pass on the Latte! Caffeine makes me crazy…
1:14 pm
Oh, pardon me, $80 billion. my mistake.
1:37 pm
Could you change the temperature/humidity/wind font color so it doesn’t clash with practically every photo it’s superimposed onto?
2:01 pm
Okay. Besides free coffee, I think a list of top posters and top comment posters would be neat (if useless). Numbered comments would be easy to implement–as would anchors for each comment for easy linking.
3:42 pm
How about a 7QQ with the editor emeritus?
10:07 pm
Is Karen Leigh single? That’s what I’d like to see… her single. Ahemm, can you help me with that, mnspeak?
10:59 pm
The spam is already upon us.
5:42 am
how about a list of bottom posters
11:08 pm
I’d love to see a smart TC-based jobs site, preferably with RSS-based searchability. Writers, editors, arts professionals, web designers… y’know, for creative folks.
10:25 am
Hey Paul, MNteractive.com has search and RSS and jobs for local web design-like folks.
