Been away from mnspeak for a while, but NIGP’s “translation” of soccer was too much. My beloved Barca had to come from behind to win after the ref had taken a goal away from Barca and given an underserved one to Arsenal. To even mention Ronaldinho in the same page as Daunte Culpepper is laughable.
BTW, it’s been my experience that mentioning Barcelona Football on a web site leads to vastly increased traffic. Really.

It’s always been my belief that the decline of the american civilization can be traced to the point in time when soccer was considered as an acceptable sport in this country.
1:00 pm
Because the essential tenet of American civilization is that “we are right and the rest of the world are idiots?”
1:00 pm
Depending on how you stereotype the american civilization, I must ask:
Is the decline of the american civilization a bad thing?
That said, I wouldn’t be too worried about mass adoption of soccer. The increase in childhood obesity should lower the number of potential soccer players below the majority mark.

You beat me to it Tom.
I. Must. Type. Faster.

Soccer bashing is so original!
Usually done by fat fucks that can’t eat without sweating.

Skoglund’s bill is right on the mark, at least with the way our broken marriage system works. Marriage is a spiritual institution, and for some strange reason, it has a legal component (unlike baptisms, bar/bat mitzvahs, confirmations, etc.). If the Hmong want legal recognition for their spiritual institution, they’ll have to play by the same rules as everyone else.
Speaking of soccer (and in the neighborhood of pillow fights), the Strib is revealing Minnesota’s links to the tittilating Northwestern women’s soccer “hazing scandal“, which my callous Y chromosome can only consider OMFGHAWT.

I’ll take rugby over soccer or football any day of the week. There’s a sport I’m amazed Americans don’t get behind. Brutal, fast-paced, and anyone can play it. Hell, I did. That should speak volumes about its accessibility.
There are actually a few high school leagues starting up around here.

I hope Buffy the vampire slayer comes along and puts a big wooden stake in the heart of the Vikes stadium issue.

hahahaha. zing. mean, but hilarious.

It’s a testosterone thing. Those who have it play american football. Those who don’t play soccer.
2:31 pm
Cricket is much cooler than either baseball OR soccer.

I love working up a sweat by lifting a massive burrito/burger/can of lard to my mouth and greedily devouring it. Boy, the way the sweat pours off my brow you’d think I just burned all the calories I ate, but no!

It’s a testosterone thing. Those who have it play american football. Those who don’t play soccer.
It’s an athleticism thing. Those who have it play soccer. Those fatsos who couldn’t make it as sumo wrestlers play American football.
3:04 pm
Just a little internet moment, but since I linked to the Wikipedia entry on Ronaldinho a few hours ago, it’s already been updated to include the result from yesterday’s UEFA Cup championship.
4:41 pm
It’s an athleticism thing. Those who have it play soccer.
If a 7 year-old girl can do it, it ain’t a sport that requires any skill or athleticism.

Why are there so few links to any CP stories?
Is this a Bartell pissing match?
GR’s Club story should have got a link. Buisiness/Human interest/sex..and they had great photos.

You’re right, Nagel, that article in CP about the suburban nightclubs was very interesting. Downtown club owners (and politicians) should read it and take note.
8:48 am
A quick count of posts since Bartel took over shows 58 that mention City Pages and 19 that mention Rake. There was one City Pages story linked yesterday, none for the Rake. If you are going to lie about Bartel, Nagel, at least spell his name right. And, oh yeah, suburban clubs are certainly one of the burning issues of our day.

Yay for soccer. Yay for Boca Juniors.
