Software Upgrade Note! A new policy change has been added to how commenting works: if you are not logged in and try to comment, you’ll get a friendly “oops” message if you’ve used a username that’s already taken by a registered user. This should have two consequences: 1) hopefully, you’ll login more often before commenting, and 2) hopefully, this should cut back on the people who anonymously comment with usernames from extant registered users, thereby confusing the community. (Yes, you can still comment anonymously — you just can’t do so with a username registered to someone else.)

The Microsoft brand police state begins.
7:54 am
Thanks, Rex. We could use someone like you around here.
8:08 am
If I ever have a fatwa pronounced upon me, I hope it’s by the same people who are supposedly out to get Rushdie. Obviously, they aren’t very good at following through.
In retrospect, the publicity value of the fatwa has been a boon to Rushdie, far outweighing any inconvenience.
SB (would gladly be fatwad in exchange for being married to Padma Lakshmi!)
8:09 am
Two m gallons of sewage flow out of CJ’s column. Film at 10!
8:30 am
Willy should change the song to “Poncho and Rushdie”.
Who else is excited about Geek Prom??
9:36 am
OK, cereal-flavored milk is really fucked up.
9:36 am
this is fun, but where’s “i wanna be your joey ramone” and “robert deniro’s waiting”??
9:42 am

Mr. Walsh:
When you finally staunch the bleeding heart journalist routine, try presenting BOTH sides of a story (re: “T-Lowe / CP this week).
I mean really, shouldn’t we have all of the FACTS about Mr. Lowe included here?
You do certainly qualify to be a crime reporter for the Strib, though.
Feh.

Re: “Software Upgrade Note!”
So who’s going to get the “bud” and “bud jr” usernames?
-Aaron
10:07 am
Did anyone go to the Riverview last night? How was it?
10:07 am
Jim, your link is in your name, too.
10:28 am
It doesn’t work.

Strib: Sliwa to offer Minneapolis police chief Angels patrol
WCCO: ‘Guardian Angels’ Head To Mpls. To Fight Crime
10:30 am
I am a wicked awesome hacker.
10:46 am
It worked for me. Maybe Microsoft is blocking subversive websites from your work computer.
10:53 am
The Strib article compares Minneapolis’ crime problem to Denver’s.
Both have problems with out of control black ‘culture’ and gangs.
Is that racist?
PS why does it say my username (bud) is already taken?
10:56 am
Because, apprently, it is.
Case-sensitivity fixed. Though I’m sure gaming the system will continue to be a favorite past time, the goal is to lessen confusion, not add to it.
11:03 am
I just want to know when the Fountain will be release…I mean…geez…that trailer has been up for months now.
11:13 am
testing
11:18 am
I’m excited about Geek Prom, Taylor. You gonna look extra sexy hot for me or what?
11:19 am
“The e-mail and phone calls that the organization’s headquarters have received — many coming at the behest of KQRS listeners, according to Sliwa — have told a different story.”
Don’t worry folks, KQRS will get this city cleaned up! hahahahahahahaha…
11:24 am
I’m wondering what Chuck is going to wear. And was DeRusha going?
11:29 am
And was DeRusha going?
Someone’s gotta be prom king.
12:33 pm
I’m going to start cyber squating on anonymous people’s names by registering them!
12:38 pm
Maybe you can sell ‘bud’ on eBay.
12:40 pm
Maybe you can sell ‘bud’ on eBay.
Do you think Billy Gray will pay some serious cash?
1:18 pm
Cereal flavoured milk sounds like one of the skank-nastiest food ideas since Yo-J.
Did anyone else stop in at the SoHo loft preview? I was profoundly underwhelmed. The space has character and potential, but the layouts (not to mention the pricing) is patently ridiculous.
1:23 pm
I’m going to kick DeRusha’s ass. Watch your back DeRusha!
I don’t even have my outfit picked out.
Oh, and the Night of Franken was quite awesome.
There was much warm feeling, and a bit of hissing at any mention of Norm Coleman.
1:25 pm
Really wish I could have gone to the Franken thing. Actually, I could have…I don’t know why I didn’t…I don’t know what I’m doing with my life.
Cereal “flavoured” milk? Whatever, BritEnglish McGee.
1:26 pm
Wow… I didn’t even know I was going to the Geek Prom.
I’m no VIP, like Alexis. So I’ll have to line up tix.
Anyway, let me see if the grandparents will watch the baby. See, I am the geek prom king. “Let me see if the grandparents…” What the hell happened to me??
And if I’m there: it’s a full-on-geek rumble, vlog-boy.
1:31 pm
Meh, English spellings are just more fun. Extraneous vowels keep life interesting.
1:34 pm
Hey, you’re in America, man. And these colours don’t run.
“Anyway, let me see if the grandparents will watch the baby.”
Pfft…responsible parent…what a total dweeb.
1:38 pm
True, but I don’t drive a lorry, and I like vinegar on my chips, so I feel perfectly comfortable sprinkling my words with useless letters.
1:51 pm
Don’t worry guys, if you two throw down in a slap fight, I’ll hold the MNStories camera.
And what do you mean you haven’t thought about what to wear?? I’ve been losing sleep on whether to wear my black t-shirt with a skeleton shooting a machine gun or my Genesis Invisible Touch World Tour t-shirt.
1:58 pm
Worst thread ever.
2:01 pm
Somebody stole Bud’s name from him? Can I just let out a little Nelson Muntz-syled “ha ha”?
3:45 pm
I can’t believe no one on here has mentioned anything about the opening of the Mpls/StPaul Int’l film festival. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the opening last night, and was curious if Al Franken made an appearance and said anything worthy of repeating. Is there a boycott going on that i am not privy to?
3:49 pm
“Anyway, let me see if the grandparents will watch the baby.”
Don’t you have a TV?
3:53 pm
It looks like we have a babysitter… so all I need is something geeky to wear! Insert snarky comments about dressing like a TV reporter here.
4:02 pm
I wrote a few reviews of a couple of the movies at the festival. And I’ll write some more next week, and you can’t stop me. Nyah.
4:10 pm
The Last Western sounds interesting. Was it more reality-tv or verite? The picture of the silver mobile home in the middle of nowhere reminds me of a short film I saw on triggerstreet.com, titled “Precursor”. It’s still on the website. It’s a pretty cool five minute flick. And, it has a silver mobile home in the middle of nowhere.
4:35 pm
I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to comment about cereal-flavoured milk, which sucks because I have some choice words about the idea.
5:25 pm
Jason, I’m voting for those lovely boots of yours.
5:50 pm
The Last Western was interesting. Verite, although much of the film looked cross-processed to give it that otherworldly, far-too-bright color.
9:49 pm
See, that’s what happens when you don’t register your nickname. rex: any chance of dialing back the expiration on those login cookies?
9:56 pm
Say what? What’s the “that” which happened that leads to this question that I don’t understand?
10:21 pm
I’m lost.
10:35 pm
Me too.
12:29 am
I think he was talking about Bud’s name-loss tragedy.
10:22 am
msparber’s got it.
Fortunately, I didn’t have to re-login again this morning to make that comment… although it looks like that cookie is set to expire in half an hour.
10:26 am
And that expiration looks like a one-time set when you log in, because posting didn’t extend the cookie that appears in FireFUx as “_utmb” one bit.
9:46 pm
Ok… cereal flavored milk could be good, but only for frosted flakes…. too bad kellogg isn’t getting in on this. If you put vanilla syrup in milk it tastes just like frosted flake milk, which is delicious. Come on, I know there are some fans out there.
7:47 pm
Oops, missed Geek Prom while in Costa Rica, but I went to my real prom once (as a junior) and Geek Prom twice (in Duluth) and that’s enough prom for a lifetime…
