pimpin’ alert.

Enough about pimping. Almost everything on this site is a pimp in one way or another. I like it when people actually submit stuff under their own name, especially when it’s cool like this post.

Welcome to MnSpeak, Kathy.

At last, I have oversaturated the Twin Cities media market. Now I have to move to Seattle.

Heh.

But you’re big out here too, dude.

Has this site taken a different tone since The Rake family took it over? It’s mighty snotty, both from commenters and from administrators. What gives?

I blame myself.

This is your idea of snotty? Man, you outta check out the internet some time.

it’s hard out here for a pimp…

i’m big wherever i go.

know what i’m sayin’? i’m “big” – “down there”
in my “ego underpants.”

Hey Peter, what can I say? I’m “caustic and witty” and have the Strib press clips to prove it. Matt is still too young to be sardonic, but he’ll get there. (You should meet his sister. She’s vicious.) As for Chuck, he’s just damn funny…um, down there.

Not so much this post, but recent ones. Lots of racism and pooh-flingin’. I’ve seen the really nasty stuff (try rightwinger blogs like LGF or Stormfront… that’s some evil shit), but we’re in… Minnesota.

i’m trying to lose the snark i had to use while living in boston. i really don’t want to be rude and snarky, but sometimes i just can’t help it. old (10+ years) habits are hard to break. as is the habit of reading (and commenting on) the b0st0n livejournal. you want to see mean, snarky assholes? hang out there for a day.

Well penis references and media posturing aside…

vlogs are art like blogs are literature.

I’d be willing to reconsider my view. mnartspd, can you point to me a vlog that has an aesthetic sensibility beyond “look@me I’m on tv!” that you consider worthy of mention with merit that exceeds the hype?

I’m not bashing anyone, some vlogs are quite entertaining don’t get me wrong, but really c’mon. Vlogging might be Art but it’s definitely not art.

It’s bad enough that the braindead crap that this generation of the blogosphere produces is being taken seriously as analysis, do we really have to cheapen the visual arts by including vlogs? It’s craft show filmmaking at best.

Like everything in life there are exceptions waiting to be found I suppose, but to be honest I can’t think of a single vlog that doesn’t fall to pieces under the weight of about two minutes of critical thought.

My favorite definition of ART: “Whatever you can get away with.”

I’m not too motivated to prove you can find art in vlogs, because you seem to have made your mind up against them. They are what they are. It’s a means of distribution, so of course it’s an outlet for art. Just like some blogs are an outlet for literature. The immediacy of blogs makes it more of a testing grounds, a place to see works-in-progress moreso than a “finished cultural product.” It’s sort of weird to compare them to, say, paintings or films or books. Cheapening the visual arts? I’m sorry, I have to laugh.

Certain videos on Minnesota Stories I think of as art – your mileage may vary. I really like 90 Seconds of Dave. Check out a video called The Decision. Also check out anything on vlog::banal and scratch video.

So far you haven’t come up with any criticism capable of dealing with two minutes of vlog video. I don’t htink you speak the language.

I’d like to change my username to Art Pimp–can I do that Matt? You know, those who can’t pimp. I work with mnartists.org so I doubt I’m the one to convince you of an aesthetic sensibility–more about art as radical democracy. Although I think what is Art? is always worth talking about–just to keep that pimpin theme going did ya’ll see the review of juxtapoz (show up at SOO Vac and Ox-Op) on mnartists.org–on the subject of questioning what’s art. anyway it’s clear Chuck’s on a trajectory for greatness (and I’m not just say’in that cause he’s my ho).

Okay, maybe that last sentence was a little harsh. Sorry, I forgot to put my Minnesota Nice pants on today.

did that qualify as pooh-flingin’?

…whatever… Congrats, Chuck. Nice work…. up in the brainpart.

If Chasing Windmills ain’t art, I will saw my leg off and throw it through the Walker’s robotic eye-window.

Thanks, Chuck. I’d like to think it’s at least erratic enough to call art…. or one of many other oddball adjectives..

WTF is a vlog?

I totally read that “funk” as a slightly different word

Pimps and vlog ho’s.

I’m liking this already. Keep up the posts KK.
