The Virginia Quarterly Review is the literary magazine you’ve never heard of- until last week, when it was bombarded with six National Magazine Award nominations. Now it’s hotter than the stack of gasoline-doused issues of McSweeney’s burning in my fireplace. Ted Genoways, a former editor with the Minnesota Historical Society Press, tapped lots of local Minnesota talent to refresh the magazine when he became editor in 2003. So it’s really a victory for all Minnesotans, especially me (even though I am a total poseur who has never finished an issue of Granta)!

As usual, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Yet I love the way you say it.

Get this magazine! It is smart and thought-provoking, while still being cool and fun. Really. There are few things I whole-heartedly recommend in this world, but VQR is definitely one of them.
