There’s been speculation about a poor working relationship between Minneapolis Mayor Rybak and Police Chief McManus and also the announcement that McManus has been interviewing elsewhere. Yesterday, though, it was reported that Rybak is looking to fastrack the Chief’s confirmation.

or more accurately, reconfirmation.

I live in st. paul, so i am not a minneapolis voter, but I spend most of my time there. If Rybak and the city council mess this one up, I will not forgive them. Mcmanus is one of the few really smart decisions they’ve made/actually been able to agree upon (sort of, anyway). They should do whatever they have to to keep him.

Hey emily, if McManus is so great, why have we not seen any good changes as far as crime. I live in the heart of N Minny and the good changes should be easy to see here, but actually it’s getting worse and worse by the day! Every one I know is being robbed at gun point, beat up, shot at, house broken in to. Never mind the gang bangers killing each other. Just heard there was another teenager filled with bullets, laying dead out on West Broadway. So how is McManus so great????

Just out of curiousity, what do you expect McManus to do on the north side? Do you think it’s a police problem? Really?
The more they squeeze the north side, the more the crime pops up somewhere else. Northeast anyone?

Hey Slim, last I checked, police were in charge of protecting and serving. If criminals can get away with crime over and over and over, day in and day out. People get robbed, hurt, beaten, shot, and killed, then guess what, the police aren’t protecting. Bottom line, they are failing. That’s the police, city and state’s problem to deal with and solve.
Now, is that to say the only dysfunction in Minneapolis, or North minneapolis, or any poverty impacted and socailly neglected area is lack of police, or effective police. Hell no.
But what great things has McManus done? Yeah, he sent some messages that the good ol’ boy network in the dept is in jeopardy. And yes, he promoted a diverse mix of officers into higher positions.
So how is all that working out for McManus? Any one see any positive results? I say let Texas have him and we can try again.
And I say squeeze squeeze squeeze away, cause at least it won’t all pop up in the same place, which is what the problem on Northside is, it’s all nice and neat in a little pocket so not to bother any one important.
