Yeah, because filling out a form with your name and email address is just TOO much work to do to stay informed about anything, be it the war, what’s happening in South Dakota, or innocuous cultural musings like the article on Trader Joe’s. If the facts in the article do not support MY beliefs, then they aren’t facts but opinion, right? However my opinion IS a fact, so the whole definition of fact/opinion is flipped on its head when it comes to me, the MNSpeak reader who can’t stand to fill out a form to stay infromed.

I’m sure I’ll go (will they have two buck chuck?), but Uptown has made me so provincial I don’t even shop at grocery stores I can’t walk to any more.

Last month while in Chicago, I got to experience a Trader Joe’s. What a great concept for a grocery store. It had a ton of great fresh food at very reasonable prices. I’m looking forward to their expansion into Minnesota.

I thought robots we going to be our new overlords.

It’s extremely unlikely that they will have wine at all.
At least until Minnesota passes a Wine with Dinner Law.
Which I think is highly unlikely in our Land of Blue Laws.

Mpls Simpleton, they could separate the liquor store from the market. Cub and various other MN retailers do that.

Also, I guess I can understand the bemusement on MeFi. There’s no way I would have been interested in Trader Joe’s when I lived in NYNY. If I wanted food, I’d go to the market located 30 feet from the front door of my building; if I wanted booze, I’d walk to the liquor store down the street or (more likely yet) have it delivered by Sherry-Lehman. (There’s no freaking way I’d lug bags of groceries or a case of wine on the train, and it seemed bourgeoise to take cabs in broad daylight.) It’s different in MN, where so many people drive everywhere, everyday. Minnesnowtans will love that place.

This report that came out today supports the push for wine in grocery stores.

I guess it would be possible for having separate stores for the liquor much like the World Markets. That would be up to SLP to decide since they have jurisdiction.

trader joes is nice, but it’s no whole foods. but then again, i’m biased.

the only good thing about TJ’s is that they carry No Pudge. WF doesn’t.

Yeah, lots of grocery stores in MN have separated liquor departments. And Surdyk’s has a separated food department.

Stupid blue laws.

Question: Trader Joe’s sounds like the Wal-Mart of gourmet grocery stores. Is it?

You want wine in your grocery store? How about beer? AND booze? My friends, look no further than Sentyrz. And don’t tell anybody. It’s Northeast’s little secret.

Plus, you can usually score weed in the parking lot.

I just moved out to LA in august and Trader Joe’s is great! I guess I liken it more to the Ikea of grocery as oposed to WalMart.

Trader Joe’s is awesome! I’ve long hoped for one to open near me…just so I can get Plugra butter at an affordable price. Although now I’m hooked on MN’s own Hope Butter.

Trader Joe’s is totally foodie central. Just check any of the threads on the establishment at the online foodie hang-out, e-Gullet

Wasabi cashews, giganto bars of dark chocolate with almonds, tubs of red coconut curry sauce, mmmm. It’s like Walmart if Walmart was like a bargain Dean and Deluca. It’s maybe closer to a Fairway.

I know product selection varies from store to store, but the Columbia Heights Rainbow does indeed have it.

Yeah! Trader Joes is moving to the TwinCities? I am moving to the twincities! Good things follow me everywhere, I’m so happy! Beware, mnspeakers–as the cart fills your wallet empties, prices are good but you could end up on a shopping binge, believe me, I’ve been there!

Trader Joes is fantastic! Heathy food at affordable prices. You can’t beat that. The kids like it as well and will even eat thier veggies:-)

Does anyone know where it will be located and what the projected opening date is?

I drove by the location in St Loius Park today and there’s a sign on the dorr saying that it’s opening May 15th YAYYYYYYY!!!!!
