Green skies at night, Mpls delight?

I saw a huge flash in the sky on Saturday night around 10pm. It was followed by a gust of wind. We thought it was in the direction of downtown Saint Paul from where I live in Longfellow, Minneapolis. Seemed to possibly be lightning of some sort but my neighbor and I who saw it couldn’t make out what it was.

Yes, I saw it too. Sometime on Sunday night while watching the Oscars at a friend’s place in Uptown. We were facing east and the whole sky lit up in a funky green color. We wrote it off as lightning even though we had never seen anything like it before.

I live at 26th and Hennepin, which is an area referenced in some of those posts. Our electricity went off with a loud “bang” at that time and stayed off for about 30 seconds. I wasn’t near a window to see the sky, but it was definitely odd.

Is it wrong that this gives me chills?

We saw that on Saturday night as well. There seemed to be one main one, but a couple after that too, around 10 pm. (Longfellow)

oh weird – i thought i was imagining something! i totally saw this, too! what the heck was it?! it was so eerie that it gave me chills down my spine..

Didn’t see it but that would explain the power outage… and here i thought it was the downstairs neighbors being a-holes. A-holes.

The power went off on the block of 25th & Lyndale during our Oscar party too. The weather was so odd that evening we thought it was a bolt of lightning.

There was something on the news that night after the Oscar’s about how a car hit a pole in St. Paul and there was kind of an explosion – they referred to it as a “fireworks show” that lit up the sky in St. Paul. They said that it caused some power outages.

No car hit any pole. The news channels staged that at the request of an unnamed government agency that needed a cover story for its test of a selective electronic interruption device. I guess it worked. Word in the tunnels is that the government will use the device in case of a large-scale terror attack. Their theory is that by shutting down the power grid they will have control of the communications channels necessary in such an emergency.

Trust me, I work in government. I know these things.

I want to believe.

It’s obviously “global warming”

Don’t know of this was the same ting but…
There is a restaurant on the Beach in San Diego that I have been to that claims to have a view of these “green flashes”. Here is their link which describes the phenomenon.

Yeah, I think the SD green flash is different–people are describing something they saw at 8:30, a couple hours after the sun hit the horizon.

I’m with Kevin from Mpls–the government agency ACRONYM is trying to wipe our minds.

Snuggled under my red fleece blanket, I was comfortably curled up while watching the Oscars at my Minneapolis apartment. Suddenly, a blinding flash of green light covered the sky. I dashed to the window only to see the green colors quickly fade away followed by a strong gust of cool, misty air. I shut my window and returned to my chair and the dead pan humor of John Stewart. Another montage came on and then BANG! Some green figures came storming into my dirty, studio apartment. They were tall, thin creatures with long, stick-like fingers that reached for me. I was frozen with fear. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t scream.

The creatures gurgled when they spoke. They talked amongst themselves in a language I did not understand, nor believe I have ever heard before. There were three of them and they towered over me. Soon they were to work on me. I was pinned down and spread out across the cold hardwood floor. I don’t remember anything after this, but awoke the next morning on the corner of 50th and France in Edina.

The good news is I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geiko.

If it wasn’t the car hitting the power pole, it may have been a solar flare. I don’t think that would account for the wind, though it might count for the brief power outage…

Did it look anything like these?

You people need to quit cooking with gas – the fumes are getting to you. Go electric!

This sounds to me like the northern lights with a coincidental gust of air.

I lived up north for a few years, and this didn’t look anything like northern lights that I’ve ever seen. The color did look like the Aurora photos on Jerad’s link, but it was a flash that lasted maybe 2 seconds. Would that be an Aurora?

I was driving south on Lyndale, right at Franklin, when I saw the flash in the sky in front of me right about 8:30 Sunday. I thought it was lightning, which I thought was extremely odd for this time of year. Then the street went dark for a few seconds and the traffic lights went to flashing red for about 5 seconds before going back to normal. It was odd.
