Regarding the staph cases doubling, my first thought was increased antibiotic use and that’s what they said was the likely culprit. It is not just a matter of doctors prescribing it but patients asking for it. We’re bombarded with adverts to take a pill for everything under the sun. We’re quick to go to the dr at the first sign of a sniffle.
What I don’t get are the ads saying “take our pill if you think you might be getting the flu – side affects may include nausea”.

One more, although it doesn’t have a permalink yet: Tweedy, Jayhawks Members Prep New Golden Smog LP.

MNSpeak should buy the bridge.

I’ll send in my dollar this afternoon.

Did anyone see the clip of the KG thing? The guy being hauled off in the gurney? He was seeing dollar signs…

On the Marshall Fields thing, just the inevitable result of consolidation of all things commercial. My only wonder is whether Macy’s considered that if the Downtown Minneapolis Macy’s is just like all other Macy’s stores, why go there, pay to park, etc.?
Wah. I want my Dayton’s back. I hate having to go to Nordstrom at MOA when I need a pair of nice shoes.

In my former life as a reporter, I found it was pretty easy to find out city employee salaries. Just call the city controller and they’ll usually just tell you. Finding out the salaries of non profit employees is harder. The bill before the legislature to require that disclosure for entities, like MPR, that get state funding, is a good one.
Also, MPR doesn’t seem to need subsidizing, as this story points out.

*sigh* I’m not going to go down this road again with the MF article, but as usual it is full of inaccuracies and half-truths. What does some random professor from St Thomas know about the inner workings of Federated? Nada.

I can’t believe that MPR has a budget 4 times the size of the nearest competitor. Who knew they were such a behemoth? Of course I only got here 5-6 months ago, so maybe I’m naive…
I contribute $10/month, but between my year-long free subscription to the Economist and some other Minnesota mags, plus being able to use the member card to get discounts, I’m getting a pretty good ROI.

According to the dateline, that story is around 11 years old. I wouldn’t use it as the basis for any decisionmaking on whether or not to contribute.

So anyone know who the guy is that KG hit with the ball?? Send me an e-mail at Channel 4.
4:25 pm
I wasn’t paying close attention, but I’m pretty sure I saw Schwebel, Goetz, and Sieben carrying that dude up the stairs….
4:28 pm
My apologies for the old link. I saw Feb 25, and didn’t read any further on the dateline.
Here is some more current info. They sold Rivertown to Target a while back.
Can I say “current” info without paying them a royalty, btw?
4:37 pm
Sorry Jason, I looked for the guy’s name, but it looks like you’re not going to find it unless someone calls a contact at the Target Center.
4:39 pm
Yeah- everyone’s pretty buttoned down on this one. Target Center is actually hiding behind HIPAA.. the medical privacy act. Genius.
4:54 pm
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act? Those bastards!

One of the good things about Minnesota is juries tend to not pay off for getting mildly bonked by a basketball. Besides, don’t the Wolves have an “assumption of the risk” clause on the back of their tickets. The Twins sure do, otherwise they’d have to net the whole stands area. Baseballs actually hurt.
6:10 pm
You’d be surprised at how often PR flaks (myself included) cite the HIPAA act.
