I loved this piece in the Strib about how the Director of Communications of the MN Atheists gets invited to speak at Northwestern and Bethel Bible colleges. It got me wondering–I know that United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities has a class devoted to dialoguing with people of different theological bents from Bethel (think “God is love” talking to “God judges you,” nevermind that both can be true.)
Who is somebody you really disagree with, or whose beliefs you can’t stand, that you’d like to sit down with?

I’ve been all around the Christian denoms and Belief-o-matic currently classifies me as a unitarian universalist. I can’t think of anyone who I disagree with vehemenently (sp?). I’d like to sit down with a Buddhist not because I disagree with them but because I agree with much of what I’ve read about their philosophies.
The extremists in any group annoy me. I wouldn’t want to sit down with anyone like that because it wouldn’t be a useful exchange of ideas.

I feel kind of dumb sticking up for my alma mater, but I should point out that neither Bethel nor Northwestern are “Bible colleges”. I can’t speak for Northwestern (they may require a Bible component even with other non-religion degrees), but Bethel is actually a university offering a full blown liberal arts education. Calling them “Christian” colleges would be more accurate.

Chris Hitchens and Camille Paglia are two people I either strongly agree or disagree with, depending on the issue. I’d love to sit down with both of them at the same time!

wait.. is he serious? I’d rather be in Hell than spend any time after death with a lot of people who claim they’re worthy of Heaven

Didn’t Mark Twain say something like “Heaven for the climate, hell for the company?”

I think he meant, “California for the climate, Minnesota for the company.” Same difference.

Kevin–sorry about getting Bethel wrong.
One view I hear a lot is that gay marriage would threaten traditional marriage. I would love to sit down with somebody who believed that and could explain to me why.
Failing that, I also can’t stand people who won’t go see a concert at the MN Zoo (even for John Prine) because it isn’t hip enough. Are you for real? Explain how…

Every time someone uses “dialogue” as a verb, God kills another puppy.

I’m sorry but I just soiled myself reading hipmn’s last post.

Looks like nothing is going on this week. There was no image for rex’s party, which I think was the only thing going on last night according to this site..
Is this site going down when Rex leaves? It doesn’t look promising…

Not to drag this lackluster thread back to life…but…To proport that Bethel is not a bible college asinine! Any place that will kick you out if your gay or lesbian doesn’t even belong in Minnesota. Maybe we can somehow give their land back to the Native Americans and then we can get a casino nice and close.
