From the Strib:
There’s a new state web site that allows local government officials to post
complaints and suggestions for the state legislature. Rep. Mark Olson of Big Lake
wrote the legislation that created the site in hopes of seeing
mandate reform. 6 complaints will trigger state action.

One proposal, to be championed by Rep. Bud Heidgerken, R-Freeport, would relieve townships of a mandate that requires them to use a specific type of voting machine to comply with the federal Help America Vote Act.
Huh. I’m not quite sure what to think about that. Anyone know anything about these machines?

Local governmental agencies already spend plenty of public money on lobbyists and belong to organizations like the League of Cities etc who have great access to lawmakers.
Other than “we want more money” I can’t imagine what a site like this would contain.

Strib story throws a 404. Also, what’s the website?

Rep. Olson is, without a doubt, the biggest buffoon in our state legislature, and that’s saying a lot….he’s secretly (and sometimes not-so-secretly) laughed at, even by his own party – sometimes, ESPECIALLY by his own party. It’s a well-known fact among insiders that this guy is a complete embarrassment, but he’s like the old uncle who no one has the heart to tell that his fly is down at the family reunion.

Link should be working now. The state site, as far as I know, isn’t public. At least I couldn’t find it.

The site is a page on the State Auditor’s Web site. A tiny URL with the Strib story takes you right to it: http://www.startribune.com/a952.
Anybody out there reading the Strib on paper?
