A lot of links today… didn’t want to write my econ paper.
Did anyone see the WCCO web site down or where it was pointed? For some reason, it sounds like there’s more to it than they’re letting on.
9:18 am
Hitchens vs Keillor. I love it. It’s like watching your brother and sister fighting, and Mom is coming down the hall!
9:25 am
Your link on the river towers is wrong. http://www.startribune.com/535/story/251992.html
Also, the summary is misleading. The City Council didn’t approve the project, the zoning committee did. I’d say approval is likely at this point, but it sounds like they may impose some conditions.
9:28 am
Is Peter Idusogie a threat to gain any real support this fall? I’ve never heard of him, but if he does draw support based on the issues it looks like it will be from Democrats.
10:32 am
WCCO redirected to here: http://www2.creativegroupinc.com/CGI/default.asp?source=CGI” target=”_blank”>Creative Group Inc. Not really sure what the deal was.
10:47 am
Oh. That’s no fun. I was hoping it was a porn site or something.
10:52 am
So was I.
11:02 am
I’m not sure what happened to my link: but here’s the redirect site: CGI.
11:03 am
I was talking to a WCCO.com web head last night and her speculation was that the site was hacked. Weird.

Anti-Strib: Holy crap this is hard
19.678 Seconds! Beat that suckers!
11:48 am
Impressive Simpleton.. I could only get up to 17.5 seconds. But I’m not very coordinated.
11:55 am
35.41
12:00 pm
I’m calling that out. You’ve got to screen cap it and post it.
12:03 pm
will do just had on at 38.6…I’ll get you one over 40.
12:08 pm
Playing the anti-Strib game makes me feel like the guy who scammed “Press Your Luck.”
12:10 pm
Here’s the link to the screen cap.
12:17 pm
Paul: you have mad skillz.
12:19 pm
The only thing thats a little lame is that the pattern is totally not random. If you were good at pac-man you could probably teach yourself all the moves and last for hours.
12:20 pm
I think I would do better at that game if the stupid ass popup didn’t keep coming up.
12:27 pm
I’m so proud of ND for reversing its trend and gaining population rather than losing… a big shout out to the people from my high school class who got hitched and started having babies at age 22. Way to take one for the team!
12:28 pm
Today’s pop machine question is funny.
12:29 pm
that game is not that hard. You just have to relax. I just broke a minute. But it might be because my browser slows when I move quickly… So maybe I’m cheating a bit.
12:30 pm
I don’t know, taulpaul… Can you really believe anything you see on the intArw3b???
just giving you a hard time. i can’t break 18 seconds, so… damn! there goes my fighter pilot aspirations.
12:31 pm
thanks JD…only from years of video games can one hope to accomplish this type of honor. I’d like to thank my cousins for giving me my first Atari as a hand-me-down, my Mom & Dad for the Nintendo purchase, my son for keeping me on my toes on the PS2, and my wife who continually reminds me how much of a waste of time video games are.
12:34 pm
Gerg, could I have I changed it in photoshop? Sure. But again, it probably would have been something more impressive like 78.5.
12:37 pm
Goddamn that game. My high has been 23.45.
12:47 pm
seems that KARE 11’s site is down right now.
hackers targeting local media sites? huh?
12:52 pm
129.147 If I was web savvy at all I would know how to capture this. But do you believe me?
12:53 pm
yup.. and with good reason.
12:58 pm
Yes johnny, it is very possible. I believe that the user’s screen refresh rate may play a biggest factor. You mentioned that the animation slows down when you move the block fast. It sounds like your system has a slow video refresh rate that is due to an older process, video card, or lack of RAM. That’s not taking away from the score though, because that’s pretty phenomonal.
1:09 pm
I could be a fighter pilot in a plane that slows down when things get complicated. Hmmmm, maybe that wouldnt be so good.
1:21 pm
Here’s a sample video of me trying this. It’s a bit jerky because of the capture frame rate and there’s some weird blue pixelation, but you’ll get the ideo
1:40 pm
That’s so awesome. Why’s it so slow, though? Compresion problem?
This is now my favorite thread OF ALL TIME.
1:49 pm
video no worky. am i dumb? comes out as gobbledygook…
1:50 pm
Gerg: windows media file, probably need windows media player 9 or above
Taylor: I wanted to keep the file size down, so the compression on this video is pretty tight, thus the jerkiness.
1:59 pm
Rybak vs Franken in the ‘08 DFL Senate primaries? tough decision…
2:15 pm
Wow, I suck at that game!
2:30 pm
Wow, I suck at that game!
Must be the red wine hampering with your right mouse button.
2:33 pm
I just want to say that if I’m going to spend my time moving my mouse hand around as quickly as I can, it’s going to be for something more productive…if you know what I mean.
In the meantime, I just want to second Hitchens. Keillor is an ass. Of course, so is Hitchens, but his bloviation is so much more…erudite???
And, Franken or Rybak? Isn’t it bad enough that Rybak is mayor? If he makes senator, I’m moving to Texas.
Back to rapid mousing.
2:59 pm
Although I’m not a fan of Garrison, I’ve been defending him more than I think I should have to for the last few weeks.
Hitchens — whose isn’t all bad, his review of Perry Anderson’s new book in this month’s Atlantic Monthly is really a fantastic read — simply ignores GK’s criticism and takes pot shots at GK.
Maybe it’s because the “American Vertigo” dispatches originally appeared with Hitchens in AM. Maybe it’s because lots of people simply hate GK. But Keillor’s point is that the brief and lazy peeks from BHL don’t tell us anything about America. And he’s right. The summations at the end of American Vertigo, which Hitchens doesn’t mention at all, are pathetic: Americans are obese in not just their bodies (yep, duh), Americans unfairly enshine the past (who doesn’t?), etc.
Someone should really come out in a major publication and support GK’s criticism.
3:05 pm
Paul could be on to something.
However, I’ve concluded that, because I’m left-handed and I mouse with my right, I have an immediate disadvantage. This somehow makes me feel better about my inadequacy and I’m content with my 4.522 seconds.
3:15 pm
Huh. My score has improved substantially since heeding johnny’s advice. I should probably stop playing, though, or I’ll never get to the mall this afternoon.
6:34 pm
I found another game for those of us with slower hand-eye skillz.
3:35 pm
I’m not a huge fan of Keillor either, especially when he sings, but it’s funny that Hitchens, the author of Why Orwell Matters, would slam our hometown guy for using plain language. The elaborate Hitchensian voice with all of those verbal doilies would get a red pen and a sharp edit from his more famous countryman.
It just gets worse when Hitchens uses Keillor’s existence in middle America as evidence that he’s stupid. Always good for a laugh outside of Minnesota, that old stereotype of the moronic Midwesterner just can’t seem to die in some places. Meanwhile, like Taylor says, Hitchens never actually tries to contradict Keillor when GK gets bothered by BHL’s use of rhetorical questions. Twenty in a row? That’s got to be some kind of record.
8:51 pm
29.5 seconds. . . what now?
9:45 am
I linked to the game in my blog, and got deluged with e-mails from people telling me their scores. If the WCCO news didn’t make any sense on Friday night, it’s because our managers and producers were playing Escapa!
4:25 pm
That Keillor piss-take is, to my mind, the first truly worthless thing Hitchens has ever written.
