MNstories reports on a couple of famous local buildings: the Whitney Hotel and the Sears Building. It’s an interesting contrast — The Whitney is being made into high-price condos near the new Guthrie while the Sears Building is being turned into a mixed-use site.

Check out the floor plans on the Whitney site, epecially the top floor. Holy penthouse.
The Sears video is part of documentary called Building at a Crossroad.

And let me tell you, that view from the 1200 SQUARE FOOT deck is just unbelievable.
For those wondering, the prices on these break down in the $450+ per square foot range. Which means that somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 mil basically gets you the shell of the Penthouse.
True real estate porn.

I live about 3 blocks from the Sears Bldg, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the neighborhood get some money flowing through it as a result of the redevelopment.
The downside of course is that Spanish Harlem will go away (or just move, actually) in a few years. Further east down Lake St, I’d assume.

Go Sears building!

I wish I wasn’t poor. I guess I’ll have to settle for my cottage. No fancy lofts for me. The floor plan for the Astor in NYC in the Sunday Times this week blows that place away thou. It has a living room (40 x 22) 2 times larger than my house. I guess $14 million will get you a large living space.

I saw that NYT Mag floorplan too. I just stared at it in awe. But it also felt icky staring at it. Fuck, I hate the contradictions of modern life.
